Book Synopsis I Am His and He Is Mine by : Alisha Sheryl
Download or read book I Am His and He Is Mine written by Alisha Sheryl and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-03 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alisha, a ten-year-old student, was a defenseless lamb trying to survive in the midst of a throng of wolves throughout her middle school and high school years. She discovered that oftentimes the enemy uses people, places, events, and a number of means to ruthlessly persecute the Lord's lambs in futile attempts to steal human souls. Alisha was no exception as she weathered the attacks of bullying, discrimination, and along with a plethora of other ugly things that shook her confidence in herself. This sincere and heart-written book is her journey through her wilderness where she had to shake off the lies and the fights and wrestles with suicide. While on this path, she tells of how she found peace, joy, and salvation through a dear shepherd and faithful friend, Jesus Christ. Based on true and honest experiences, this book is meant to uplift and encourage those who feel loved and unloved, for those who feel surrounded by isolation, because God uses wounds as healing tools for others in need of healing in their lives. This is her story, and to God be the glory!
Download or read book Getting Respect written by Michèle Lamont and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2018-11-27 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comparative look at how discrimination is experienced by stigmatized groups in the United States, Brazil, and Israel Racism is a common occurrence for members of marginalized groups around the world. Getting Respect illuminates their experiences by comparing three countries with enduring group boundaries: the United States, Brazil and Israel. The authors delve into what kinds of stigmatizing or discriminatory incidents individuals encounter in each country, how they respond to these occurrences, and what they view as the best strategy—whether individually, collectively, through confrontation, or through self-improvement—for dealing with such events. This deeply collaborative and integrated study draws on more than four hundred in-depth interviews with middle- and working-class men and women residing in and around multiethnic cities—New York City, Rio de Janeiro, and Tel Aviv—to compare the discriminatory experiences of African Americans, black Brazilians, and Arab Palestinian citizens of Israel, as well as Israeli Ethiopian Jews and Mizrahi (Sephardic) Jews. Detailed analysis reveals significant differences in group behavior: Arab Palestinians frequently remain silent due to resignation and cynicism while black Brazilians see more stigmatization by class than by race, and African Americans confront situations with less hesitation than do Ethiopian Jews and Mizrahim, who tend to downplay their exclusion. The authors account for these patterns by considering the extent to which each group is actually a group, the sociohistorical context of intergroup conflict, and the national ideologies and other cultural repertoires that group members rely on. Getting Respect is a rich and daring book that opens many new perspectives into, and sets a new global agenda for, the comparative analysis of race and ethnicity.

Download or read book Labor and Class Identities in Hong Kong written by C. Lee and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-04-08 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on numerous qualitative interviews, this cutting edge book investigates how Hong Kong's economic structure and neoliberal policies have contributed to class inequality in China's global city. Inspired by Bourdieu's approach to class, the author examines class stratification in education, works, and political attitudes and argues that the lack of explicit class identifications among the people does not imply irrelevance of class. Relying upon empirical field data to question the applicability of the reflexive modernization theory, the text debates whether individualization makes class a redundant concept in advanced capitalist societies.

Download or read book Somebody Knows, Somebody Cares written by Kirsten Hutchison and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-06-25 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Somebody Knows, Somebody Cares: Reengaging Students through Relationship explores approaches to engaging young people in schooling through advocacy models of student support. In Australia, as in many nations, increasing social, cultural and linguistic diversity in school populations is producing complex challenges for education systems, schooling, teaching and learning. This book shares research informed insights into the multi-layered approaches required to support vulnerable students and sustain school-based mentoring programs. This edited collection covers theoretical and empirical perspectives on student disengagement from schooling through these key ideas: • The benefits of advocacy and mentoring programs on learning and school culture, particularly for students who are at risk of disconnection from learning. • Transforming schooling from the bottom up, by listening to students, teachers and principals and supporting educators in the development of situated and dynamic conditions for learning, through school-university partnerships. • The centrality of positive, caring teacher – student relationships, foregrounding emotional connection as a key component of effective learning, derived from the person-centred theory articulated by Carl Rogers. Written by a team of academics, teachers and school principals, Somebody Knows, Somebody Cares: Reengaging Students through Relationship is a valuable resource for teacher educators, principals, teachers, student welfare counsellors and counselling practitioners.
