This book was released on 2015-06-01 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first textbook that contains a holistic treatment of antennas both for traditional antennas mounted on masts (Line-of-Sight antenna systems) and for small antennas used on modern wireless devices such as smart phones being subject to signal variations (fading) due to multipath propagation. The focus is on characterization, as well as describing classical antennas by modern complex vector theory - thereby linking together many disciplines such as electromagnetic theory, classical antenna theory, wave propagation, and antenna system performance. Overall, this book represents a rethinking of the way basic antenna theory is presented. The book contains many references to important old and new papers and books on the analysis and design of the most useful antenna types, for the most interested readers.

Book excerpt: Human cognitive processes and defense mechanisms, as described in psychoanalysis, bring about new notions and paradigms for artificial intelligence systems. One key reason is that the human cognitive processes and defense mechanisms in question can accomplish conflict detection functionalities, filter functionalities, and other system stabilizing tasks within artificial intelligence systems. Yet artificial cognitive architectures lack the capability to analyze complex situations as well as the universal competencies needed to orientate themselves in complex environments in various domains. Psychoanalytic Defense Mechanisms in Cognitive Multi-Agent Systems addresses this dilemma by exploring how to describe, model, and implement psychoanalytic defense mechanisms in the course of a project that provides a functional model of the human mind. With discussions focusing on the development of a mathematical description for the implementation of conflict detection, the activation and selection of defense mechanisms, and the processing of defense mechanisms, Psychoanalytic Defense Mechanisms in Cognitive Multi-Agent Systems describes the decisive points for the application of defense mechanisms in artificial intelligence. Formulae that treat defense mechanisms as transformations are also provided. Interdisciplinary cooperation between the scientific fields of psychoanalysis and artificial intelligence is highlighted as the foundation of new research findings throughout the book. Innovative and exciting, this book will be of great interest to academics, researchers, and postgraduates in the fields of cognitive science, artificial intelligence, and psychoanalysis.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Power systems are increasingly collecting large amounts of data due to the expansion of the Internet of Things into power grids. In a smart grids scenario, a huge number of intelligent devices will be connected with almost no human intervention characterizing a machine-to-machine scenario, which is one of the pillars of the Internet of Things. The book characterizes and evaluates how the emerging growth of data in communications networks applied to smart grids will impact the grid efficiency and reliability. Additionally, this book discusses the various security concerns that become manifest with Big Data and expanded communications in power grids. Provide a general description and definition of big data, which has been gaining significant attention in the research community. Introduces a comprehensive overview of big data optimization methods in power system. Reviews the communication devices used in critical infrastructure, especially power systems; security methods available to vet the identity of devices; and general security threats in CI networks. Presents applications in power systems, such as power flow and protection. Reviews electricity theft concerns and the wide variety of data-driven techniques and applications developed for electricity theft detection.

The international political system is all manners in which countries, governments and people relate. Mechanism design in international politics relates to identifying rules that define relationships between people and countries that achieve a particular outcome, e.g., peace or more trade or democracy or economic development. Artificial intelligence is technique of making machines intelligent. This book explores mechanism design and artificial intelligence in international politics and applies these technologies to politics, economy and society. This book will be of interest to scholars of international relations, politics, sustainable development, and artificial intelligence.

Book excerpt: The Internet of Things (IoT) is an interconnection of several devices, networks, technologies, and human resources to achieve a common goal. A variety of IoT-based applications are being used in different sectors and have succeeded in providing huge benefits to the users. As a revolution, IoT overtook the entire global landscape with its presence in almost every sector, including smart cities, smart grid, intelligent transportation, healthcare, education, and so on. This technological revolution also moved to the machines, converting them into intelligent computers that can make real-time decisions and communicate with each other, forming an Internet of Systems/Machines. The use of secure light-weight protocols will help us in developing environment-friendly and energy-efficient IoT systems. IoT is an emerging and recent area of research, adopted for many applications, and there is a need to investigate further challenges in all aspects of it. This book will provide information on fundamentals, architectures, communication protocols, use of AI, existing applications, and emerging research trends in IoT. It follows a theoretical approach to describe the fundamentals for beginners as well as a practical approach with the implementation of case studies for intermediate and advanced readers. The book will be beneficial for academicians, researchers, developers, and engineers who work in or are interested in fields related to IoT. This book serves as a reference for graduate and postgraduate courses in computer science, computer engineering, and information technology streams.
