Book Synopsis Children and Computers in School by : Betty A. Collis
Download or read book Children and Computers in School written by Betty A. Collis and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-11-26 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume integrates research findings from three multinational studies conducted to examine the impact of children's use of computers in school. Conclusions are drawn from in-depth analyses of trends in more than 20 nations. Its seven authors from four nations were key researchers on these projects. Both a study and a product of the information age, this work is of prime importance to teachers, teacher educators, and school administrators. This work is unique in three important ways: * it presents data gathered in many regions of the world; * many of the authors are well-known and respected for their previous work in educational studies; and * the chapters are designed in such a way that the majority of the book is easily accessible to professionals such as classroom teachers who are interested primarily in findings, results, and outcomes rather than the methodology of the research.

Book Synopsis Monitoring the Learning Outcomes of Education Systems by : Vincent Greaney
Download or read book Monitoring the Learning Outcomes of Education Systems written by Vincent Greaney and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 1996-01-01 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, education systems in more than 50 countries have shown an interest in obtaining information on what their students have learned as a result of their educational experiences. It seems likely that the number of countries interested in this sort of information will increase in the future. This book is intended to provide an introduction to individuals with an interest in assessing the learning outcomes of educational systems. In Chapter 1, "Nature and Uses of Educational Indicators," it considers the role of indicators in this process. A number of approaches to assessing learning outcomes in developed and developing countries are described, and systems of comparative international assessment are reviewed in chapter 2, "National and International Assessments." The question of whether existing information from public examination results can be used to provide information on learning outcomes for an education system is answered in the negative in chapter 3, "National Assessment and Public Examinations." chapter 4, "Components of a National Assessment," reviews the stages of a national assessment, and chapter 5, "Pitfalls of National Assessment: A Case Study," presents a case study of examples of poor practice in the conduct of national assessments. An appendix presents a national assessment checklist. (Contains 4 boxes, 6 tables, and 139 references.) (SLD)

Book Synopsis Greenhouse Gas Mitigation Assessment: A Guidebook by : Jayant A. Sathaye
Download or read book Greenhouse Gas Mitigation Assessment: A Guidebook written by Jayant A. Sathaye and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes guidelines prepared by the U.S. Country Studies Program for the evaluation of options to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions. The U.S. Country Studies Program developed these guidelines in collaboration with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory to provide developing countries and countries with economies in transition with reference materials for national mitigation assessments. Over 50 countries participating in the program have used the guidelines, which have been refined to reflect their comments. The guidelines delineate a step-wise methodology for evaluating greenhouse gas mitigation options for the energy and non-energy sectors and describe the applications of common analytical tools. The U.S. Country Studies Program uses these guidelines in conjunction with intensive training workshops and follow up technical assistance during the lifetime of each country's study. The program uses similar reference materials to assist counties with their greenhouse gas emission inventories and evaluations of climate change vulnerability and adaptive responses. These guidelines serve three purposes: to assist countries in making decisions about the scope and methodology for mitigation assessments; to provide countries with guidance and step-by-step instructions on each element of a mitigation assessment; and to help countries determine which analytical tools are best suited to their needs and describe procedures for applying these tools. This book describes the application of the most common and readily available methods and analytical tools. Countries are encouraged, where appropriate, to use their own methods.
