Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Multilingualism and Modernity by : Laura Lonsdale
Download or read book Multilingualism and Modernity written by Laura Lonsdale and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores multilingualism as an imaginative articulation of the experience of modernity in twentieth-century Spanish and American literature. It argues that while individual multilingual practices are highly singular, literary multilingualism exceeds the conventional bounds of modernism to become emblematic of the modern age. The book explores the confluence of multilingualism and modernity in the theme of barbarism, examining the significance of this theme to the relationship between language and modernity in the Spanish-speaking world, and the work of five authors in particular. These authors – Ramón del Valle-Inclán, Ernest Hemingway, José María Arguedas, Jorge Semprún and Juan Goytisolo – explore the stylistic and conceptual potential of the interaction between languages, including Spanish, French, English, Galician, Quechua and Arabic, their work reflecting the eclecticism of literary multilingualism while revealing its significance as a mode of response to modernity.

Download or read book Latino/a Thought written by Francisco Hernández Vázquez and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2003 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Latino/a Thought brings together the most important writings that shape Latino consciousness, culture, and activism today. This historical anthology is unique in its presentation of cross cultural writings especially from Mexican, Puerto Rican, and Cuban writers and political documents that shape the ideology and experience of U.S. Latinos. Students can read, first hand, the works or authors who most shaped their cultural heritage. They are guided by vivid introductions that set each article or document in its historical context and describe its relevance today. The writings touch on many themes, but are guided by this book's concern for a quest for public citizenship among all Latino populations and a better understanding of racialized populations in the U.S. today. No other book offers readers such a rich history of the Latino heritage experienced in this book in the voices and political actions whose influence reached across generations."

Book Synopsis Literatura Hispanoamericana by : David W. Foster
Download or read book Literatura Hispanoamericana written by David W. Foster and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-05-22 with total page 1216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Spanish-language anthology contains selections by 45 Latin-American authors. It is intended as a text for upper division Latin American literature survey courses. The anthology presumes a high level of linguistic command of Spanish, and it contains footnotes to allusions and cultural references, as well as words and phrases not found in standard bilingual dictionaries used in the US. Emphasis is on major 20th-century writers, while important works from colonial and 19th-century literature as also included. The diverse selections of Literature Hispanoamericana will enable students to have a more sustained exposure to major voices of Latin American literature than possible in anthologies built around fragments. By focusing on fewer authors but more significant selections from their writings, students will have a greater grasp of major canonical figures as well as emergent voices.
