Book Synopsis Timber Connections by : Rohana Hassan
Download or read book Timber Connections written by Rohana Hassan and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-04-19 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the application of mathematical and fundamental theory as stated in the relevant standards, namely EYM and NDS. Timber is one of the important building materials in the field of engineering, other than concrete and steel. However, there is still a lot of unexplored knowledge about timber, including how timber connections are made. One of the main types of timber connection is mortise and tenon. Mortise and tenon are widely seen as one of the most important traditional timber structural joint. In order to understand the load-carrying capacity and performance of the structural mortise and tenon joint, the existing theoretical background of timber joint design is made as a reference. Current equations applicable in estimating the load-carrying capacity of timber joint uses the European Yield Model (EYM). Therefore, the main aim of this book is to share the basic design knowledge, inclusive of safety factor limitations (as engineering main factor) in structural design.

Book Synopsis New Perspectives in Wood Anatomy by : P. Baas
Download or read book New Perspectives in Wood Anatomy written by P. Baas and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the International Association of Wood Anatomists several symposia were held during the 13th International Botanical Congress in Sydney, August 1981. Extended versions of most of the invited papers presented there, and some additional papers on aspects which could not be included in the congress program constitute the contents of this book, which intentionally received the pretentious title 'New Perspectives in Wood Anatomy'. To some readers it may seem a paradox that under this heading papers on a diversity of partly traditional wood anatomical subjects are assembled, even including two with a historical emphasis. However, a study of the history of wood anatomy and of how students of that discipline joined forces in an inter national association, brings to light many facts and views which deserve the attention of present day and future wood scientists as a potential source of in spiration for their research and organisational work.

Book Synopsis Dipterocarp Forest Ecosystems: Towards Sustainable Management by : Andreas Schulte
Download or read book Dipterocarp Forest Ecosystems: Towards Sustainable Management written by Andreas Schulte and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1996-07-30 with total page 682 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Dipterocarp forests of South-East Asia constitute a dominant component of the world's tropical forests. As such, they are intertwined with a Pandora's box of problems that have plagued the world for decades; Over- and underdevelopment, poverty, hunger, population growth, exploitation of natural resources, environmental degradation, loss of biodiversity, the debt crisis and, of late, climate change. The world community has responded to the crucial role of these forests and the dangers facing them with funds, and a myriad of programmers, projects, institutions, conferences and networks. Apparently neither a lack of knowledge nor finance constrains the dissipation of sustainable management practices: the fate of the world's Dipterocarp forests will certainly depend on the involvement of scientists from many nations and disciplines, but will perhaps ultimately, rest with local policymakers, forest administrators and line foresters. Unfortunately, these two groups rarely share realms, readings or reasoning: practical foresters, invariably very involved with the challenges of day-to-day forest management in remote, isolated environments, may long remain oblivious to scientific developments. Traditionally though they do find solutions to problems, gain deep insights into forest responses and practical constraints, and sometimes even report in semi-obscure publications, which rarely reach the scientific circuit. The editors of the book, both experienced forest and soil scientists and practical forest managers, have attempted to bridge the gap between the realms of forest science and practice in Dipterocarp ecology, management and utilization.

Book excerpt: This book gathers selected science and technology papers that were presented at the 2014 Regional Conference of Sciences, Technology and Social Sciences (RCSTSS 2014). The bi-annual Conference is organized by Universiti Teknologi MARA Pahang, Malaysia. The papers address a broad range of topics including architecture, life sciences, robotics, sustainable development, engineering, food science and mathematics. The book serves as a platform for disseminating research findings, as a catalyst to inspire positive innovations in the development of the region. The carefully-reviewed papers in this volume present research by academicians of local, regional and global prominence. Out of more than 200 manuscripts presented at the conference by researchers from local and foreign universities and institutions of higher learning, 64 papers were chosen for inclusion in this publication. The papers are organized in more than a dozen broad categories, spanning the range of scientific research: • Engineering• Robotics• Mathematics & Statistics• Computer & Information Technology• Forestry• Plantation & Agrotechnology• Sports Science & Recreation• Health & Medicine• Biology• Physics• Food Science• Environment Science & Management• Sustainable Development• Architecture The book provides a significant point of reference for academics, researchers and students in many fields who need deeper research.
Download or read book Eucalyptus written by Seng Hua Lee and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-12-15 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights the world distribution of eucalyptus plantations and the recent state of research on the utilization of planted eucalyptus for engineered wood products (EWPs) manufacturing. EWPs such as particleboard, fiberboard, oriented strand board, laminated veneer lumber, plywood, glue-laminated lumber, and cross-laminated lumber are highlighted. Eucalyptus is the main fiber resource for the pulp and paper industries in developed countries. Timber and fibers extracted from eucalyptus have long been utilized for solid wood and manufacturing of medium-density fiberboard. Other uses of eucalyptus such as pulp and paper, fuels, and chemical feedstocks are also discussed. Economic, social, and environmental assessments of eucalyptus products are presented.
