If so, your journey is just beginning. Certainly, one person from every married couple will grieve and mourn the loss of their mate. If you are the surviving spouse, you are on a journey of grief. Do you let Jesus walk you through this miserable valley, or do you choose to stay and live in this miserable valley alone? If you are the new widow or widower starting this miserable journey of grief, my heart hurts for you. If you are the child or other loved one of that one individual from every marriage who has become the surviving widow or widower, my heart hurts for you. As you follow the journey of this widower, you will get a firsthand account of the miserable journey your loved one is entering. Book Synopsis Nurses and COVID-19: Ethical Considerations in Pandemic Care by : Connie M. Ulrich
Download or read book Nurses and COVID-19: Ethical Considerations in Pandemic Care written by Connie M. Ulrich and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-04-25 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the many ethical issues and extraordinary risks that nurses and others are facing during the COVID-19 pandemic, which creates physical, emotional, and economic burdens, affecting nurses' overall health and well-being. Nurses are essential front-line clinicians across all health care settings and in every nation. The COVID-19 pandemic caused by the novel SARs-CoV-2 virus has affected children, adults, and communities within and across all societies. Nurses, too, have contracted the virus and died from the disease. They have also seen their colleagues, family members, and friends hospitalized or in intensive care units struggling to survive. Nursing’s professionalism and disciplinary resolve to care for patients and families amidst confusion, misinformation, and shifting guidelines has been called “heroic” by the public. How much risk should nurses be expected to accept during a pandemic? How do nurses help patients and families find comfort and dignity at the end-of-life? How do we help nurses who are suffering from moral distress and mental health concerns from what they have seen, been asked to do, or are unable to provide? And, how does society move forward from a pandemic that has challenged our basic ethical principles of justice and what is “fair, good and right” in caring for those who need care, including the most vulnerable and nurses themselves? This book addresses these and other ethical concerns that nurses are facing in their day-to-day clinical practice; experiences shared with patients, families, and colleagues. Although this book was written while the pandemic was still raging across the United States and globally, the events needed to be told as they were unfolding. This book helps us to learn from both the successes and failures that are affecting so many across the globe, including those on whom the public relies on to provide quality, compassionate, and expert care when they are sick: nurses.
Book Synopsis Clinical Application of Artificial Intelligence in Emergency and Critical Care Medicine, Volume IV by : Zhongheng Zhang
Download or read book Clinical Application of Artificial Intelligence in Emergency and Critical Care Medicine, Volume IV written by Zhongheng Zhang and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-01-23 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Research Topic is the fourth volume of the series Clinical Application of Artificial Intelligence in Emergency and Critical Care Medicine Volume I: Clinical Application of Artificial Intelligence in Emergency and Critical Care Medicine, Volume I Volume II:Clinical Application of Artificial Intelligence in Emergency and Critical Care Medicine, Volume II Volume III:Clinical Application of Artificial Intelligence in Emergency and Critical Care Medicine, Volume III Analytics based on artificial intelligence has greatly advanced scientific research fields like natural language processing and imaging classification. Clinical research has also greatly benefited from artificial intelligence. Emergency and critical care physicians face patients with rapidly changing conditions, which require accurate risk stratification and initiation of rescue therapy. Furthermore, critically ill patients, such as those with sepsis, acute respiratory distress syndrome, and trauma, are comprised of heterogeneous population. The “one-size-fit-all” paradigm may not fit for the management of such heterogeneous patient population. Thus, artificial intelligence can be employed to identify novel subphenotypes of these patients. These sub classifications can provide not only prognostic value for risk stratification but also predictive value for individualized treatment. With the development of transcriptome providing a large amount of information for an individual, artificial intelligence can greatly help to identify useful information from high dimensional data. Altogether, it is of great importance to further utilize artificial intelligence in the management of critically ill patients.

This book was released on 2023-07-04 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second edition of this book describes the clinical indications of NIV in patients hospitalized with high-risk infections as well as in the prehospital management of mass casualty incidents, including chemical or biological disasters and pandemics. In recent decades, we have learned the impact that different pandemics and mass casualty disasters can outcome in terms of health resource use, health costs and human lives. The development of respiratory failure in these patients, either infectious or non-infectious causes, has led to develop employment plans related both to invasive or noninvasive mechanical ventilation during acute respiratory failure. In this book authors evaluate a rational basis for indications, specific noninvasive mechanical ventilation indications in hospitalized patients (tuberculosis, bacterial, virus, etc.) and prehospital applications (mass casualty: chemical, biological disaster), equipment (ventilators, interfaces) and plan organization for health systems: how and when apply NIV. A critical review of already published studies is described as well as implications and how will be the future according to international expert opinions. Therefore, this updated edition represents a useful scientific reference point according to what it has been experienced in the last pandemics, with respect to the growing role that NIV has and must have in the world.

Book Synopsis Policy Styles and Trust in the Age of Pandemics by : Nikolaos Zahariadis
Download or read book Policy Styles and Trust in the Age of Pandemics written by Nikolaos Zahariadis and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-04-07 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the reasons behind the variation in national responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. In doing so, it furthers the policy studies scholarship through an examination of the effects of policy styles on national responses to the pandemic. Despite governments being faced with the same threat, significant variation in national responses, frequently of contradictory nature, has been observed. Implications about responses inform a broader class of crises beyond this specific context. The authors argue that trust in government interacts with policy styles resulting in different responses and that the acute turbulence, uncertainty, and urgency of crises complicate the ability of policymakers to make sense of the problem. Finally, the book posits that unless there is high trust between society and the state, a decentralized response will likely be disastrous and concludes that while national responses to crises aim to save lives, they also serve to project political power and protect the status quo. This text will be of key interest to scholars and students of public policy, public administration, political science, sociology, public health, and crisis management/disaster management studies.
Book Synopsis Impact of public health and social measures for COVID-19 control on infectious disease epidemiology by : Sukhyun Ryu
Download or read book Impact of public health and social measures for COVID-19 control on infectious disease epidemiology written by Sukhyun Ryu and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-05-10 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infections have had a global impact, leading to a set of public health and social measures (PHSMs). These measures—such as hand hygiene, mask wearing, and social distancing—have affected people’s behavior and thus led to change in the transmission of infectious diseases. Studies of the impact of the opportunistic implementation of PHSMs on infectious diseases including respiratory virus infections during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic have been reported. For example, seasonal influenza epidemics, sexual transmitted infections, and pediatric infectious diseases decreased significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
