Book Synopsis LOGLAN '88 - Report on the Programming Language by : Antoni Kreczmar
Download or read book LOGLAN '88 - Report on the Programming Language written by Antoni Kreczmar and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1990-03-07 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: LOGLAN '88 belongs to the family of object oriented programming languages. It embraces all important known tools and characteristics of OOP, i.e. classes, objects, inheritance, coroutine sequencing, but it does not get rid of traditional imperative programming: primitive types do not need to be objects; records, static arrays, subtypes and other similar type contructs are admitted. LOGLAN has non-traditional memory model which accepts programmed deallocation but avoids dangling reference. The LOGLAN semantic model provides multi-level inheritance, which properly cooperates with module nesting. Parallelism in LOGLAN has an object oriented nature. Processes are treated like objects of classes and communication between processes is provided by alien calls similar to remote calls.

Download or read book Concurrency 88 written by Friedrich H. Vogt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1988-10-12 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of CONCURRENCY 88, an international conference on formal methods for distributed systems, held October 18-19, 1988 in Hamburg. CONCURRENCY 88 responded to great interest in the field of formal methods as a means of mastering the complexity of distributed systems. In addition, the impulse was determined by the fact that the various methodological approaches, such as constructive or property oriented methods, have not had an extensive comparative analysis nor have they been investigated with respect to their possible integration and their practical implications. The following topics were addressed: Specification Languages, Models for Distributed Systems, Verification and Validation, Knowledge Based Protocol Modeling, Fault Tolerance, Distributed Databases. The volume contains 12 invited papers and 14 contributions selected by the program committee. They were presented by authors from Austria, the Federal Republic of Germany, France, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Book Synopsis VDM '88. VDM - The Way Ahead by : Robin E. Bloomfield
Download or read book VDM '88. VDM - The Way Ahead written by Robin E. Bloomfield and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1988 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents the proceedings of the 2nd VDM-Europe Symposium held in Dublin, Ireland, September 12-16, 1988. VDM, the Vienna Development Method, is a formal method for software engineering. It is being applied to an increasing number of projects by companies throughout Europe and there is an active international research programme supporting this process. "VDM - The Way Ahead" is the second of a series of symposia sponsored by the Commission of the European Communities (CEC) and organised by VDM-Europe. The term "formal method" refers to mathematically formal software specification and production methods. These methods aim to increase the quality of software in two related ways: by improving the specification and by making verification during the software production process more effective and easier to audit. The symposium proceedings focus on five areas of interest: education and technology transfer, experience and use of VDM, tools and support environments, method development and foundation at work, the standardisation of VDM. The proceedings are of interest to all those concerned with the application of more rigorous approaches to software development and the associated theoretical foundations.

Book Synopsis High Performance Transaction Systems by : Dieter Gawlick
Download or read book High Performance Transaction Systems written by Dieter Gawlick and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1989-04-26 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Lecture Notes volume is based on the "International Workshop on High Performance Transaction Systems" held in the Asilomar Conference Center, September 28-30, 1987. Many of the problems identified during the workshop are liable to determine the future development of transaction systems and distributed high performance systems in general for many years to come. So the organizers of HPTS '87 felt encouraged to collect the papers presented at the workshop in order to make them accessible to a wider audience of interested developers and researchers. Since some of the contributions represented work in progress, the authors agreed to prepare revised and updated versions of their papers for this publication. This accounts for the long delay between the event itself and the publication, but on the other hand it provides the reader with a state-of-the-art account of transaction processing topics. The book is organized according to the major sections of the workshop. In the network section the reader finds an analysis of two of the major "paradigms" in networking, ISO/OSI and SNA, from the perspective of transaction processing. In the next section four different transaction processing and database systems are described: Model 204 - a database management system marketed by Computer Corporation of America, Tandem's NonStop SQL, Citicorp's transaction processing system and ALCS, which basically is a version of TPF running under MVS/XA. The section on architectural issues contains four very different contributions which are fairly representative of the type of problems in transaction systems investigated in the research community. Finally, performance evaluations and system comparisons are presented.

Book Synopsis Foundations of Data Organization and Algorithms by : Witold Litwin
Download or read book Foundations of Data Organization and Algorithms written by Witold Litwin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1989-06-07 with total page 552 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Third International Conference on Foundations of Data Organization and Algorithms has been organized by INRIA in Paris from June 21 to 23, 1989. Previous FODO Conferences were held in Warsaw, 1981, and in Kyoto, 1985. The goal of this year's conference is to present advances in techniques of permanent and temporary data organization in different fields. New applications such as image processing, graphics, geographic data processing, robotics, office automation, information systems, language translation, and expert systems have developed various data organizations and algorithms specific to the application requirements. The growing importance of these applications has created a need for general studies on data organization and algorithms as well as for specific studies on new database management systems and on filing services. The articles submitted for the conference were subject to the usual rigorous reviewing process and selected on that basis. They offer an excellent snapshot of the state of the art in the field and should prove invaluable for computer scientists faced by the problems of data organization which are raised by these new applications.
