Book excerpt: Prisoners of fate Are held captive by the chains of destiny Beautiful Lara Sopiton died in a Lagos cell and resurrected a few weeks later on the streets of London. But her ordeals have just begun. From London to Jerusalem, Venice, Rome, Zurich, Santo Domingo. She had to fight back against the likes of Gino Galvani - a smooth Italian operator who didn't know the difference between business and pleasure; and Eniola Bamisi - the multi-talented billionaire kingpin of an international syndicate whose vision is to lure young girls as gullible vectors to carry the cocaine campaign across the Atlantic. 'There's a high-level power game going on. A powerful baron and influential political figure is the great tempest turning the giant mill at a very volatile velocity. He is reputed to have houses across the waterfronts of Europe and recently honey-mooned young and beautiful Lara along the sharp edges of the asymmetrical folds of the Alps.'

Book excerpt: ‘Bunkai-Jutsu’ is the analysis of the karate katas and their application in real combat. It is also the title of this pioneering book by Iain Abernethy. The fighting applications of the karate katas (forms) is one of the most fascinating – and sadly misunderstood – aspects of karate practice. Bunkai-Jutsu provides the reader with the information they need to unlock the ‘secrets’ of kata and to begin practising karate as the complete and realistic combat art that it was intended to be! This groundbreaking and often controversial book provides a detailed analysis of the combative concepts and principles upon which the katas are based. 'Bunkai-Jutsu' is essential reading for all those who want to understand the real meaning of kata.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NOTHING STAYS THE SAME!! after all, thankfully, nothing is about the only thing that never alters. No amount of lies, deceit, alteration, corruption and whitewashing can change NOTHING!! THAT RATHER LOUD SILENCE!! I have written, re-written and mulled over writing this book for the past 30 years. So there is some 30 years of hindsight within its content. There is nothing new within this book only that which may have been hidden from YOU the public. Even times and dates are from records taken in diaries, police notes, statements, oh and the odd interview tape and covert tape etc. So as I say nothing to gauge apart from provable things. A bucket load of questions to be asked and answers to be looked into but nothing at all that wasn't available all those years ago!! I tried on many occasions to place my points in various forms of media coverage over the years. Only to have those important points edited out. So I decided just to stay quiet for many years. My reasoning was to try to bring up our children in the way Patricia would want. To keep them aside from all the media attention. Seemingly I didn't do too bad a job. I spent a lot of time trying to get my story heard in the European Court of Human rights. This again was washed under the proverbial carpet around October 1998. About the time when when a deal was done to incorporate human rights laws into our British laws. It is said that we all have skeletons in our cupboards!! well mine have all been searched on several occasions and no skeletons found!! We are all players in this game of life!! Yet it is how we play the hands we are dealt that is the deciding factor!!

Book excerpt: An oral history, with the full participation of cast and crew, of one of the most popular sitcoms in television history. Since premiering in 2009, the groundbreaking television sitcom Modern Family has garnered tens of millions of devoted fans, earning 75 Emmy nominations and 22 Emmy Awards, including five in a row for Outstanding Comedy Series (one of only two sitcoms to ever achieve that feat). Professors have written about it. Psychologists have lectured on it. Leading publications, such as The New York Times and Washington Post, have explained their love for it. With funny, heartfelt and relatable stories about family, Modern Family has gained a worldwide following of hundreds of millions of viewers in countries as diverse as England, Israel, The Netherlands, Germany, and South Africa. As much as people love the show, few know the stories behind it. How did a kernel of an idea by Emmy-winning writers Steve Levitan and Chris Lloyd morph into a television juggernaut? Where did they find the cast? How did they come up with story ideas and film favorite episodes? What went on behind the scenes? Up until now, there have been individual stories and interviews about the show, but nothing comprehensive that captures the complete story of the series. Marc Freeman's Modern Family: The Untold Oral History of One of Television's Groundbreaking Sitcoms is the only major book ever written that explores this show as told by those who created it. More than seventy people, including the entire cast, crew, and creators, detail the full history of this iconic sitcom. The cast recalls their memories of the trials and tribulations of casting. They share their impressions from the first table read through the last light turning out. Writers, directors, and performers walk readers through storylines, production and favorite episodes. Guest stars such as Elizabeth Banks, Josh Gad, Adam Devine, Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane recall their appearances on the show while others recount their experiences working with Kevin Hart, Barbara Streisand, Ed Norton and more. Readers get to go behind the scenes and experience the show like never before, including personal photos. They’ll also discover the never-told fallout and divorce of the two showrunners, making the show two separate series blended into one. Even people unfamiliar with the show will gain deep insight into what it takes to put a series on television. Typically, oral histories come out as retrospectives, based entirely on recall. This one will have the benefit of having the ending occur in real-time. From script development to final season (the 11th season will be the show's last) readers will get a glimpse of the cast’s relationships with each other and the emotions attached to saying goodbye to the best and longest-running workplace many of them expect to ever experience. Much like the series itself, this book shares a story of family, of conflict and collaboration, that went into this timeless, groundbreaking series.

The twenty-four women interviewed here discuss the physical and spiritual challenges of martial arts training and how it helps to bring meaning and purpose to their lives. Their disciplines include T'ai Chi Ch'uan, Aikido, Capoeira, Wing Chun, Judo, Kajukenbo, Jujutsu, Tae Kwon Do, Karate, and Kung Fu, and their backgrounds are equally diverse. Some were accomplished athletes before beginning, while others had never been comfortable with their physical bodies until discovering the martial arts. Those interested in women's studies will find a wonderful sample of contemporary American women who speak articulately about the forces that have shaped their lives.
