This book was released on 1999-02-25 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a volume in honor of Professor Peter Carruthers on the occasion of his 61st birthday. It is a unique collection of papers by the world's leading experts, describing the most exciting developments in many areas of theoretical physics. While traditionally physics is driven to ever smaller and simpler systems, end-of-this-century scientists see themselves confronted with complex systems in many of their areas. It is just this interdisciplinary character of complexity that is addressed in this book, with topics ranging from the origin of intelligent life and of universal scaling laws in biology via heartbeats, proteins, fireballs, phase transitions, all the way to parton branching in collisions of elementary particles at high energies. The contributions include extensive discussions on complexity (M Gell-Mann, M Feigenbaum, D Champbell, D Pines and L M Simmons), neutrino masses (R Slansky and P Rosen), high temperature superconductors (D Pines), low Moon (M Feigenbaum), origin of intelligent life (S Colgate), chaos of the heart (M Duong-Van), origin of universal scaling laws in biological systems (G West), critical behavior of quarks (R Hwa), status of LEGO (S Meshov), disoriented chiral condensate (F Cooper), and many others.
Book Synopsis Kinematic Methods in High-energy Physics by : Vitaliĭ Iosifovich Golʹdanskiĭ
Download or read book Kinematic Methods in High-energy Physics written by Vitaliĭ Iosifovich Golʹdanskiĭ and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1989 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nice monograph intended to serve the practical needs of graduate students and researchers. Detail and coverage in good balance; in seven chapters treats relativistic fundamentals, the kinematics of two-particle and three-particle decays, multiple hadron production (including statistical, thermodynamics and hydrodynamic models) and related topics. For the price (which will keep the book out of the hands of many of those to whom it is addressed) one might have expected professionally-drawn figures and mathematical typography a bit easier on the eye. Book Synopsis Correlations And Multiparticle Production (Camp) - Proceedings Of The Workshop On Local Equilibrium In Strong Interaction Physics - Lesip Iv by : M Plumer
Download or read book Correlations And Multiparticle Production (Camp) - Proceedings Of The Workshop On Local Equilibrium In Strong Interaction Physics - Lesip Iv written by M Plumer and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1991-01-30 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main theme of this workshop, the fourth meeting in the LESIP series, is correlations and Fluctuations in strong interaction processes. While the emphasis was on Bose-Einstein correlations between identical particles, other kinds of correlations (between non-identical particles, multiplicity distributions, transverse energy distributions, inelasticity distributions etc.) were addressed. The recent developments in fractal dynamics, intermittency, deterministic chaos and information entropy and their roles in high energy physics also was addressed. Finally, transverse energy distributions and inelasticity distributions, insofar as they impart information about thermalization of the energy available for hadronization, was discussed. These issues are of relevance for the current searches for Quark-Gluon-Plasma. The goal of the workshop is to provide a forum for the presentation of new experimental results.

Book Synopsis Phenomenology of Ultra-Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collisions by : Wojciech Florkowski
Download or read book Phenomenology of Ultra-Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collisions written by Wojciech Florkowski and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2010-03-24 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives an introduction to main ideas used in the physics of ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions. The links between basic theoretical concepts (discussed gradually from the elementary to more advanced level) and the results of experiments are outlined, so that experimentalists may learn more about the foundations of the models used by them to fit and interpret the data, while theoreticians may learn more about how different theoretical ideas are used in practical applications. The main task of the book is to collect the available information and establish a uniform picture of ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions. The properties of hot and dense matter implied by this picture are discussed comprehensively. In particular, the issues concerning the formation of the quark–gluon plasma in present and future heavy-ion experiments are addressed.

This book was released on 1997-05-29 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume discusses the most recent results on multiparticle production. These include the differences between quark and gluon jets from LEP at CERN, the search for the disoriented chiral condensate at Fermilab, the existence (or not) of the quark-gluon plasma and the large rapidity gaps in Hera physics. In many different experimental situations, the subject of multiparticle dynamics remains alive.Main speakers: J Antos, B J May, J D Bjorken, P Sondereger, I Tserruya, R C Hwa, R Ugoccioni, A Giovannini, C Grupen, A de Angelis, G Thompson, J Kwiecinski, B Andersson.
Book Synopsis Theories and Experiments in High-Energy Physics by : Arnold Perlmutter
Download or read book Theories and Experiments in High-Energy Physics written by Arnold Perlmutter and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-08 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains a portion of the presentations given at the session on High Energy Physics and Astro physics of Orbis Scientiae II, held at the Center for Theoretical Studies, University of Miami, from January 20 through January 24, 1975. This, second in the new series of meetings held at the CTS, strove to implement the goals professed in the organization of Orbis Scientiae in 1974, namely to encourage scientists in several disciplines to exchange views, not only with colleagues who share similar research interests, but also to acquaint scientists in other fields with the leading ideas and current results in each area repre sented. Thus, an effort has been made to include papers in each session that discuss fundamental issues in a way which is comprehensible to scientists who are specialists in other areas. Also in keeping with the philosophy of Orbis Scientiae, the major topics each year are to be varied, with the invariant being the inclusion of developments in fundamental physics. The discussions of the current state of the art in high energy physics represented in this volume include new theories and experiments in the field. v PREFACE Special gratitude is due to the following for their contributions as organizers and moderators of the ses sions on high energy physics and astrophysics: Abdus Salam, Jogesh Pati, Karl Strauch, O. W. Greenberg, Sheldon Glashow, George Sudarshan and W. John Cocke. The editors wish to express their appreciation to Mrs. Helga Billings and Mrs.
