Book excerpt: Welcome to the world of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems—a realm where precision engineering and innovative technologies converge to create comfortable, efficient, and sustainable indoor environments. As we embark on this journey through the realm of HVAC valves, we delve into the critical components that form the backbone of these systems, offering readers a comprehensive understanding of their importance and functionality. The HVAC industry has witnessed remarkable advancements over the years, driven by the pressing need for energy conservation and environmental sustainability. HVAC valves, as gatekeepers regulating the flow of air, water, or refrigerant, play a pivotal role in achieving these goals. Their ability to maintain precise control over temperature, pressure, and flow ensures not only optimal thermal comfort but also the effective utilization of resources, reducing the ecological footprint of modern buildings and structures. In this book, we aim to present an in-depth exploration of HVAC valves, catering to a wide range of audiences—from students and engineers in the field of mechanical engineering and HVAC design to HVAC technicians, facility managers, and building owners seeking to enhance their understanding of these critical components. Our goal is to provide both theoretical knowledge and practical insights, empowering readers to make informed decisions in valve selection, sizing, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Chapter by chapter, we will navigate through the various types of HVAC valves, understanding their unique features and applications. From the venerable globe valves, known for their precision, to the versatile butterfly valves and the quick-acting ball valves, each chapter will shed light on the distinct roles these valves play in HVAC systems. We will explore the cutting-edge technology of pressure-independent control valves (PICVs), a recent innovation that revolutionizes energy efficiency and flow control. Additionally, we will delve into zone valves, instrumental in creating customized comfort zones, and examine the role of actuators and control systems in enhancing valve functionality. As with any technology, proper sizing and selection are crucial to maximizing performance and minimizing energy wastage. Therefore, we will dedicate a chapter to discussing the importance of valve sizing and offer practical guidelines to aid readers in making the right choices for their specific HVAC applications. Furthermore, maintenance is a cornerstone of reliable and efficient HVAC systems. Throughout the book, we will emphasize the significance of regular maintenance practices, equipping readers with essential tips and procedures to ensure long-lasting and trouble-free valve operation. The HVAC industry is ever-evolving, driven by research, innovation, and the collective commitment to a greener and more sustainable future. As such, we encourage readers to view this book as a stepping stone, fostering curiosity and inspiring continuous learning in the realm of HVAC technology. We extend our gratitude to the professionals, researchers, and pioneers whose contributions have enriched the field of HVAC valves, enabling us to compile this comprehensive guide. It is our hope that this book will serve as a valuable resource, enlightening and empowering readers to harness the full potential of HVAC valves in their pursuit of comfort, efficiency, and environmental stewardship. Let us now embark on this enlightening journey, exploring the world of HVAC valves and discovering the intricate mechanisms that bring indoor comfort to life. Happy reading! Book excerpt: I have done HVAC projects for 30 years and know what are the most important points to cover. In today’s fast-paced lives, time is a precious entity. Therefore reading long lines of text in a book or article can become a lethargic task. But Reading a short book with helpful context delivering the same meaning helps save a lot of time. Nowadays, people do not have much time for long books or long videos. That is why we are seeing the popularity of sites like Blinkist who made a resume of 4000 famous books into 15 minute reads with concise key points that the reader should know. Also if you check the popularity of short videos on tikTok and now followed by you tube shorts. With my 30 years of HVAC experience I have decided to compile the knowledge into a very concise book. Hope you enjoy reading and you gain much experience of this book.

We rely on them to perform a wide variety of tasks without giving much thought to the origins of the technology or how it became such an important part of our lives. Control System Applications covers the uses of control systems, both in the common and in the uncommon areas of our lives. From the everyday to the unusual, it's all here. From process control to human-in-the-loop control, this book provides illustrations and examples of how these systems are applied. Each chapter contains an introduction to the application, a section defining terms and references, and a section on further readings that help you understand and use the techniques in your work environment. Highly readable and comprehensive, Control System Applications explores the uses of control systems. It illustrates the diversity of control systems and provides examples of how the theory can be applied to specific practical problems. It contains information about aspec ts of control that are not fully captured by the theory, such as techniques for protecting against controller failure and the role of cost and complexity in specifying controller designs.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are two reasons why we have a new edition every four or five years. The first is that technology changes. Chapter 10, on computer-based con trols, has had to be almost completely rewritten. Fundamentals don't change, but the tools available to us do change. Evaluation and proper use of those tools makes it even more imperative that we understand fundamentals. Many of our control problems stem from the use of new devices as a solution to problems that are, in fact, control design errors. New gadgets, for example, Direct Digital Controls (DDC), will not solve basic problems and may even compound them. None-the-Iess, you will find an extensive discussion of DDC because I think it is the probable "future" in HVAC control. But it must be applied with a good understanding of fundamentals. The second reason is that I keep learning and need to pass on my new and improved understanding to my readers. Thus you will find a number of small but important revisions, a dissertation on control "modes," and a much more detailed discussion of how electronic control devices work. There are a few places where I have corrected what I now perceive to be errors. I apologize for these. I have been much encouraged by the acceptance of this book in the past, and I hope that this new edition will be helpful. Thank you for your support.
