In Winning Back America, Governor Dean writes for the first time about his life and the people and events that have shaped him, beginning with his upbringing in New York and taking us through his medical career, eleven and a half years as governor of Vermont, and finally into his presidential campaign. Howard Dean writes about: • The years at college that changed the way he looks at America • His decision to attend medical school and the origins of his commitment to children and to universal health care • Meeting his wife, Judith Steinberg, and bringing up a family in Vermont • One dramatic day that he began as an internist and ended as governor • The successes of his governorship • His decision to run for president of the United States • His vision for the country Winning Back America is Howard Dean in his own words. Dean tells his story with characteristic verve and forthrightness and also with emotion as he reflects on the death of his father and on the disappearance of his brother Charlie in Southeast Asia at the end of the Vietnam War. Howard Dean's personal recollections bring us a full portrait of the candidate as a father, a husband, a son, and as a political leader.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After the 2004 election, the Republican Party held the White House, both houses of Congress, twenty-eight governorships, and a majority of state legislatures. One-party rule, it seemed, was here to stay. Herding Donkeys tells the improbable tale of the grassroots resurgence that transformed the Democratic Party from a lonely minority to a sizable majority. It chronicles the inside story of Howard Dean's visionary yet deeply controversial fifty-state strategy, charting his unpredictable journey from insurgent presidential candidate, to front-running flameout, to chairman and conscience of the Democratic Party in an unexpected third act. Ari Berman reveals how the Obama campaign built upon Dean's strategy when others ridiculed it, expanding the ranks of the party and ultimately laying the groundwork for Obama's historic electoral victory—but also sowing the seeds of dissent that would lead to legislative stalemate and intraparty strife. Revelatory and entertaining, in the vein of Timothy Crouse's The Boys on the Bus and Rick Perlstein's Nixonland, Herding Donkeys combines fresh reportage with a rich and colorful cast of characters. It captures the untold stories of the people and places that reshaped the electoral map, painting a vivid portrait of a shifting country while dissecting the possibility and peril of a new era in American politics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Taking Our Country Back presents the previously untold history of the uptake of new media in Democratic electoral campaigning over the last decade. Drawing on interviews with more than sixty political staffers, fieldwork during the 2008 primaries and general election, and archival research, Daniel Kreiss shows how a group of young, technically-skilled Internet staffers came together on the Howard Dean campaign and created a series of innovations in organization, tools, and practice that have changed the elections game. He charts how these individuals carried their innovations across Democratic politics, contributing to a number of electoral victories, including Barack Obama's historic bid for the presidency. In revealing this history, the book provides a rich empirical look at the communication tools, practices, and infrastructure that shape contemporary online campaigning. Taking Our Country Back is a serious and vital analysis, both on-the-ground and theoretical, of how a small group of visionary people transformed what campaigning means today and how technical and cultural work coordinates collective action.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." (Edmond Burke) Or for selfish people to obstruct those who are trying to do the right thing. This book probes the Islamic fanatics' end game - convert or die, they tell the West. The fanatics see our very success as a mortal threat to their own perverted version of the "pure" Islam world over which they thirst to rule. But the book also probes the feckless French and foolish liberals who are so wrapped up in their own agendas that they stand between forceful leadership and the real enemy at the gates. Bin Laden is perfectly willing to brainwash his followers into sacrificing their lives for the illusion of eternal paradise. Not that Bin Laden and his chief lieutenants are ready to die for their cause just yet. They want others to die so that they can live out their fantasies of a world converted in their image. How does he get away with it? By skillfully preying on the weaknesses of others, including the short-sighted who are blinded by their greed, cowardice or folly. This is where the feckless French and foolish liberals come in. As the book explains, tyrants like Saddam Hussein suit the fanatic Islamists' ambitions perfectly. All of this and more were staring the feckless French and foolish liberals in the face. But they turned a blind eye. At a crucial point in the history, they chose a course even worse then doing nothing. They obstructed decisive action against the growing cancer to serve their own agendas. In their own way and for their own selfish reasons, the French (along with other European elites) and the liberal establishment have trouble dealing with decisive assertions of U.S. power. They want to bring the United States down to a level that is indistinguishable from any other country. In a world of moral ambivalence that the feckless French and the foolish liberals are used to inhabiting, the United States government is no less to blame for what happened on September 11th than the terrorists and dictators who support them. This book connects the dots in the concerted strategy to fight the War on Terror that the liberals and French refuse to see and explains how George Bush's decision to remove Saddam Hussein after twelve years of inaction on the part of the United Nations was an essential part of that strategy

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Howard Dean's campaign for president changed the way in which campaigns are run today. With an unlikely collection of highly talented and motivated staffers drawn from a variety of backgrounds, the Dean campaign transformed the way in which money was raised and supporters galvanized by using the Internet. Surprisingly, many of the campaign staff members were neither computer whizzes nor practiced political operatives, even though that is how some of them are identified today. This book allows key individuals in the campaign the chance to tell their stories with an eye to documenting the Internet campaign revolution and providing lessons to future campaigns. Howard Dean's inspirational statement of what it took for his campaign to get as far as it did-"mousepads, shoe leather, and hope"-holds great wisdom for anyone campaigning today, especially the 2008 presidential candidates.

Book excerpt: I always dreamed of writing my own book. I always have had an animated imagination. My vision of walking into a book store and seeing my fashion sketches work of art. Wow, I can only imagin that the dream is finely arrived for the world to see. I always ask myself if i did create my own book, what would it be about. Well, I'm a fashion sketch artist and I always dream of being the center of attention. So why not put a fashion runway show in a sketch format. So page after page the fast paste animated unknown walk the runway. I like to take a chance with color, bold, strong lines, shapes, faces incorporating images into abstract pieces. So I put all this into my collection of fashion321 "Sketches Of The Unknown" As i stand here looking in the mirror and asking myself, are you ready. Are you willing to show your creative skills to the world. In my earlier years as an art student at The University Of Kutztown University I was afraid to show off my artistict talents. As my skills developed throughout the years I attended F.I.T "Fashion Instutue Of Tecnology" in New York. A couple or courses here and there realy help me. As a freshman at Dieruff high school I would keep my sketches to myself cause I was afraid of others opinions. As i practice and practice i became more confident in myself and my work and rest is history in the making.
