Book excerpt: Excerpt from How to Write Better Retail Advertising Copy Perhaps I can make this point clearer by explaining one fact of life on which all of us necessarily must agree. All of the readers of the newspaper at any given moment may be divided into two broad general classifications. For simplicity, I will refer to them merely as the are's and the are not's. On any given day a number of people are conscious of the need or the want for certain specific items of merchandise. On any given day. Book excerpt: Excerpt from How to Write Advertisements That Sell This message that runs through sales talk, sales letter and sales copy is the central strand of advertising that pulls. Does it grip your prospects? Does it tell them of the in most advantages offered in your product and sales plan? Does it talk your wants or my profits? The skillful copywriter makes his message rich with buy ing reasons and buying attractions - with the product's flavor and the prospect's deepest desires. He knows his goods and his trade so well that to every foreseen recoil or turn of inattention in the reader he matches the logical buying impulse, until his advertisement neutralizes and counteracts every prospect's inclination to save, to put off, to reconsider and to hesitate. This book was released on 2014-05-28 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As you are reading this, you are obviously interested in how Marketing actually works and what is actually effective. You already have been through the wringer with all these online marketers who use the same copy-paste template of a sales page, with mailing lists which send you unwanted traffic several times a week and insist that you are stupid enough to believe their hype, over and over and over. The Masters of Marketing Secrets series brings you these classics so that you can make up your own mind. All that has been done with these books is to give you modern versions of them which have been (mostly) cleaned up of typo's and poor editing - and also made available in ebook and paperback so you can study them at your leisure. J. George Frederick lived in those times and wrote about the people and principles of advertising they discovered. His book has been handed around for years, and as you study the other books in this series it starts pulling the pieces together for you.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Advertising Book, 1916 One object is to give to such persons as may be interested in advertising (but who are not familiar with its inner workings in its modern forms) a clear idea of what is being done from within to make more effective this part of the present-day selling mechanism. The other, and the more important object, is to help those who are actively engaged in selling operations to acquire a working familiarity with some of the events forming current advertising history. To such persons, the records of these events may have suggestive value in connection with efforts to reduce waste in the processes of distributing merchandise. In the conclusion of Advertising as a Business Force, a simi lar compilation made for the Associated Clubs in 1912-13, I called attention to three lines in which it seemed to me advertising was making distinct progress. Book Synopsis Better Business (Classic Reprint) by : Firm Newspaper Advertising Agents Ayer
Download or read book Better Business (Classic Reprint) written by Firm Newspaper Advertising Agents Ayer and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-21 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is possibly one of the earliest printed attempts at viral marketing. As any marketer today will tell you if you want to catch somebody's attention you have to give them something worthwhile, so advertising company N.W. Ayer and Son attempt to sneak the advert for their business into a book purporting to be only about how to improve your business. The first portion of the book is divided into sections, each of which discusses a specific topic of interest to business owners. Subject matters covered include the importance of a democratic approach to advertising, the standardization of merchandise, advertising as salesmanship, and barriers to advertising. The book is clearly written primarily for business owners involved in a retail operation. Better Business concludes with a chapter titled "An Invitation," and it is this chapter that demonstrates the true purpose of the book. "N.W. Ayer and Son is a business house seeking more business," states the opening line. The text goes on to detail the services that they can provide, and offers a response to criticisms that have been levied against the organization. Better Business is an interesting read as an example of early covert advertising. While the book is published by the advertising firm, it does not become clear until the last chapter that the explicit purpose of the text is to attract new clients to the firm. This is a clever bit of marketing by N.W. Ayer and Son, and was likely an effective means of disseminating information about the company. Individuals interested in the history of advertising, particularly disguised advertising campaigns, will likely find Better Business to be an interesting read. While the text of the guidebook chapters are of no significant value, it is N.W. Ayer and Son's advertising strategy that makes this book worthwhile for the modern reader. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Business Correspondence, Vol. 1: How to Write the Business Letter Or, trained by the sales manager upon his men, letters keep them in touch with the house and key up their loyalty. With regular and special letters, the sales manager is able to extend his own enthusiasm to the farthest limits of his territory. So in every phase of selling, the letter makes it possible for you to keep your finger constantly upon the pulse of trade. If you are a wholesaler or manufacturer, letters enable you to keep your dealers in line. If you are a retailer, they offer you a medium through which to keep your customers in the proper mental attitude toward your store, the subtle factor upon which retail credit so largely depends. If you sell on instalments, letters automatically follow up the accounts and maintain the inward flow of payments at a fraction of what any other system of collecting entails.
