Here is a preview of what’s inside, along with the main ideas and the meaning behind these. WorkLife is our life at work, where we spend one third of our lives. It is also the impact our work has on our life outside of work, and the impact our life outside of work has on our work. All areas of our life in and out of work are so intrinsically linked, they cannot be separated, nor do I believe should they. I believe WorkLife needs to be considered holistically. Finely-tuned powers of observation is a powerful technique to keep your WorkLife real. It will enable you to be acutely aware of everything that is going on around you, and it will allow you to know how to harness that for your good. In this book I tell two stories: 1. Three WorkLife Stages of Observation: The Present, Past and Future: Carmel’s stories of how she achieved her WorkLife intentions at her different WorkLife stages, by taking a step-by-step approach of learning by doing and by being observant of what was going on around her as she went about her daily WorkLife to help her to know what to do next. 2. The Ghosts of Christmas Present, Future and Past, and an Alternative Timeline: Aisling’s story of how the practice of journaling had enabled her to fine-tune her power of observation while visiting Present, Future and Past and an Alternative Timeline. I share the exercises that helped to work through these challenging situations to resolve the dilemmas. I present these exercises as the following assignments for you to work through: Re-Wind/Re-Play Your Day Observation Assignment This assignment is to help you to begin to develop your power of observation by taking notice of one moment from your day. Developing Your Power of Observation Assignment This assignment is to help you to develop your power of observation by capturing more moments from your day. Write Your WorkLife Intention Assignment This assignment is to help you to write your intention in relation to what you want to achieve in your WorkLife, and to then do whatever you have set as your intention by being observant as you go about your daily WorkLife. Develop a Practice of Continuous Self-Feedback Assignment This assignment is to help you to use the practice of journaling to keep in contact with your own thoughts, not only for self-expression and self-knowledge, but for observation of the world around you. Taking down your thoughts before they escape you is a good way to sharpen your observational skills. Develop a Practice of Insightful Self-Questioning This assignment is to help you to tighten your self-feedback loop through insightful questions. Mental Time-Machine Journey to Your Present Assignment This assignment is to help you to reflect on everything that is good in your WorkLife that you have to be grateful for, and to also think about what could be better. Mental Time-Machine Journey to Your Future Assignment This assignment is to help you to navigate the unknown, to consider what your future could be. Mental Time-Machine Journey to Your Past Assignment This assignment is to help you to recollect memories from you past.
