Download or read book How I've Wept written by M.C.M. Yeung and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2024-02-15 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: M. Yeung grew up in the foster system. From birth to the age of 18, she carved a life for herself in difficult, often hostile circumstances. This memoir chronicles those painful years and the impact of trauma, abuse, and abandonment. A combination of her 1400-page government file and fragmented memories, this is one woman’s journey to reconcile her past. A harrowing and sobering example of what children can experience in the system, this is a story of betrayal, stigma, resiliency, and the choices that can change the course of a life.

Book excerpt: In nineteenth-century Vienna, a drama of love, fate, and will is played out amid the intellectual ferment that defined the era. Josef Breuer, one of the founding fathers of psychoanalysis, is at the height of his career. Friedrich Nietzsche, Europe's greatest philosopher, is on the brink of suicidal despair, unable to find a cure for the headaches and other ailments that plague him. When he agrees to treat Nietzsche with his experimental “talking cure,” Breuer never expects that he too will find solace in their sessions. Only through facing his own inner demons can the gifted healer begin to help his patient. In When Nietzsche Wept, Irvin Yalom blends fact and fiction, atmosphere and suspense, to unfold an unforgettable story about the redemptive power of friendship.
Download or read book Jesus Wept written by Barbara C. Crafton and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on 2019-02-01 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jesus Wept, Barbara C. Crafton's best-selling and brilliant reflection on faith and depression, is now released in its tenth-anniversary edition, complete with a new foreword by the author, who reflects on the choice she made ten years ago to break the silence and speak openly about her own experience with depression. "I was determined to speak freely about it" she writes. "Many, probably most, of my clergy confreres were - and remain - unwilling to invite such a stigma to take up permanent residence in their resumes. But there are some who know the isolation and despair into which depression can drag a person, and they might benefit from knowing that someone whose whole life has been given to God also knows these things. If that is the case, it's well worth the stigma." Like all human experience, no two courses of depression and healing are the same. Religious belief can make depression easier, but it can also make it harder. It calls our beliefs about ourselves and about God's presence in our lives into painful question. Barbara Crafton's beautiful and candid book addresses these questions head on, reminding her readers that God does not ordain our suffering but instead meets us in our darkest days to compassionately call us toward the light.

Download or read book Kristofferson and Yeats written by Gregg Tomusko and published by Strategic Book Publishing & Rights Agency. This book was released on 2016-11-07 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: *Kris Kristofferson *Leonard Cohen *Bob Dylan *Marijohn Wilkin *Joe Wise *Tom T. Hall *W.B.Yeats *T.S.Eliot *Longfellow *Gerard Manley Hopkins *Emily Dickinson *Shakespeare Poetry first rented a room in my mind in English literature class at Borromeo Seminary in Cleveland. A Christian understanding serves as a flashlight in a cave: You can see more. The attributes of Christ - truth, beauty, and goodness - shine forever and keep verses alive. That's why poems live on. Songs continue to occupy my mind. I view most songs as poetry set to music. I greatly admire people who write poems and songs. Some create both lyrics and music like embroidery, and their works greatly affect others. I desired my favorite songwriters and poets to be in one book. I suspect someday Kris Kristofferson, Leonard Cohen, William Butler Yeats, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and many others will be best friends. They all toiled in God's vineyard, producing good fruit. I'm hoping this book gets published before they all pass, so they can enjoy this tribute to their "fine wine." Poets and songwriters who speak to those searching for truth take time to admire beauty, and are uplifted by acts of goodness. Poetry and songs were meant to be enjoyed, recited, and sung throughout the day. One can experience encounters with God through such works. These show the best side of mankind.
