This book was released on 2021-10-10 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book release was essential at the present time because many of us are unaware of how easily we can create idols; whether it is our spouse, child, or people in positions of authority simply by attempting to fill the void left by what happened in most cases in our childhood environments. We do not want to slow down our lives, particularly in African American communities, to seek spiritual counsel from someone who genuinely cares about our souls being delivered and set free. Specifically, from the very sins taught to us as children. However, if we go all the way back to our roots to discover who we truly are and why it is so difficult to stray away from such sins as idolatry, we will discover the answers to the things to which we are bound. I hope one ask themselves, "Who am I truly"?

Book Synopsis Cursed Blessings by : Umberto Grassi
Download or read book Cursed Blessings written by Umberto Grassi and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-06-21 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cursed Blessings explores the relationship between sexual nonconformity and religious radical dissent in the early modern Western European world. While many studies have been devoted to the process of the "hereticalization" of nonnormative sexual practices and its use in anti-heretical propaganda, this book is entirely devoted to understanding the meaning of unconventional sexual behaviors from the perspective of the dissenters. Divided into three parts, the first focuses on the Italian peninsula and explores alternative views on sexuality inspired by Renaissance currents of anti-clericalism, ancient Christian heresies, traditions of apocrypha of the New Testament, and Rabbinic literature. It also examines how embodied and gendered experiences influenced the dissenting views of religious women. The second part explores how reflections on Original Sin led to the questioning of Christian assumptions regarding sex and gender, highlighting the relationship between the criticism of sexual morality and disputes on free will, spirituality, and redemption. The third part examines how most of these threads were entwined into a more coherent philosophical framework in the writings of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century erudite libertines. This book is designed for academic readers, including graduate and undergraduate students. Given its intersectional approach, it will be of interest to researchers, teachers, and students in a wide array of fields, including religious, gender, and sexuality studies, as well as literature. This book also tackles issues that are relevant to present-day debates, such as the problematic relations between sexuality and religion and the ongoing polemics surrounding the complicated interactions between religion and politics.

Book Synopsis Past and Present Political Theology by : Dennis Vanden Auweele
Download or read book Past and Present Political Theology written by Dennis Vanden Auweele and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-04-02 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book demonstrates how discussions of Political Theology have been a constant feature throughout philosophical modernity and that they continue to impact contemporary political debates. By tracing the historical roots and detailing the contemporary outworking of Political Theology in Europe, it contends that this growing field requires a broader "canon" in order for it to mature. Political Theology is shown here to be about the diversity of relationships between religious beliefs and political orientations. First engaging with historical debates, chapters re-examine the relationship between personal conviction and societal orientation on such topics as the will to believe, evil, individualism, the relationship between church and state, and the relationship between belief and natural science. The volume then establishes the relevance of these debates for the present day. As such, it invites engagement on the back and forth between religion and politics in a liberal democracy and a communist state, on how communitarianism relates to religious language, on the diversity of Christian and Jewish political theology, and the politics of toleration. By broadening out the field of Political Theology this book offers the reader a more nuanced understanding of its sustained influence on public life. As such it will be of interest to academics working in Political Theology, but also Theology, Philosophy and Political Science more generally.

Book excerpt: In Sisters of the Yam, bell hooks reflects on the ways in which the emotional health of black women has been and continues to be impacted by sexism and racism. Desiring to create a context where black females could both work on their individual efforts for self-actualization while remaining connected to a larger world of collective struggle, hooks articulates the link between self-recovery and political resistance. Both an expression of the joy of self-healing and the need to be ever vigilant in the struggle for equality, Sisters of the Yam continues to speak to the experience of black womanhood.
