Every concept follows a deliberate pattern of introduction and gradual development. Each lesson begins with a new concept or an expansion of a previously covered concept. This introduction starts a cycle of repetition and review that students will experience as they work through the lessons. Horizons Math Kindergarten lays a foundation for order and exactness. The daily practice in the student books teaches the recognition and printing of the numerals 0 to 100. Simple addition and subtraction from 0 to 10 are taught. the addition-subtraction concept is extended through 99 with the aid of counters and the number line. Counting through 100 is presented by 1's, 10's, 5's, 2's, 3's, and 4's. Principles of place value, measurement, calendar use, telling time, graphing, comparisons, and money concepts are also introduced.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Barrows, as burial markers, are ubiquitous throughout North-Western Europe. In some regions dense concentrations of monuments form peculiar configurations such as long alignments while in others they are spread out extensively, dotting vast areas with hundreds of mounds. These vast barrow landscapes came about through thousands of years of additions by several successive prehistoric and historic communities. Yet little is known about how these landscapes developed and came about. That is what this research set out to do. By unravelling the histories of specific barrow landscapes in the Low Countries, several distinct activity phases of intense barrow construction could be recognised. Each of these phases contributed in a particular fashion to how the barrow landscape developed and reveals shifting attitudes to these landscape monuments. By creating new monuments in a specific place and in a particular fashion, prehistoric communities purposefully transformed the form and shape of the barrow landscape. Using several GIS-techniques such as a skyline-analysis, this research was able to demonstrate how each barrow then took up a specific (and different) position within such a social landscape. While the majority of the barrows were only visible from relatively close by, specific monuments took up a dominating position, cresting the horizon, and they were visible from much further away. It was argued that these burial mounds remained important landscape monuments on the purple heathlands. They continued to attract attention, and by their visibility ensured to endure in the collective memory of the communities shaping themselves around these monuments. This publication is part of the Ancestral Mounds Research Project of the University of Leiden.

Book excerpt: A Philanthropist's Guide to Giving is a handbook for philanthropists and foundations with the desire to practice strategic, impactful philanthropy in Asia. Few resources exist in the Asia region that can serve as references along the full journey of philanthropy. This guide touches on all relevant points at the various stages of this journey — from designing a philanthropy strategy or involving family members in giving, to evaluating the impact of philanthropy or pursuing collaboration while giving. If you are embarking on a philanthropy journey yourself, this guide is intended to serve as a go-to resource for your path forward. It aims to answer your most important questions by introducing different frameworks and highlighting key considerations. It will not prescribe a single 'best' way for philanthropy, but instead enable you to be more confident and informed in crafting your own approach.Notably, this guide is tailored for the Asian experience, based on the learnings from the Asia Philanthropy Circle (APC) and its members. The book has distilled key lessons from seven years of in-depth engagement with APC members; it features 31 case studies of Asia-based philanthropists, bringing the reality of giving on the ground in Asia to you.By presenting different approaches to philanthropy, best-in-class models and examples, as well as practical insights from APC members and learnings from APC projects, you will be well-equipped to explore and expand your giving in Asia.
