Moreover, although the Thirteen Colonies differed in the manner of their birth and the course of their development and were distinct political organisms, nevertheless they vitally influenced each other in many ways and were bound together by many ties of race, need, experience, and aspiration. Excepting New Netherland they were all daughters of one mother. After England acquired New Netherland they were all members of one imperial household and as such attached to the fortunes of the great family of European nations.
