Many of the problems encountered were unique to units that deployed from Germany. Some were unique to 1-37 Armor because it was detached from its parent brigade which remained in Germany, and attached to another brigade for the duration of the deployment. However, many of the lessons are applicable to all army units. This paper describes 1-37 Armor's Rear Detachment and Family Support Group operations during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm and the problems encountered, and offers some recommendations to solve the problems for future deployments.
