Download or read book Netaji: Rediscovered written by Kanailal Basu and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2010-01-19 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A book written exclusively on Subhas Chandra Bose - his family, education, political life, and his struggle for Indian freedom. Readers will find it interesting to know his adventurous submarine journey from Germany to South East Asia which is unparallel in the World history. The facts of establishing the Provisional Azad Hind Government recognised by nine sovereign states of the world and also the formation of Indian National Army by him to fight against the British is no less interesting. His mysterious disappearance and the fake story of his death in an air crash still remain unanswered. The Government of India tried thrice in 1956, 1970 and in 1999 to solve the Netaji's mysterious disappearance by setting up committees or commissions but the mystery remains. This is something unique in World history. Shah Nawaz Committee (1956) and Khosla Commission (1970) set up by the Government of India reported that Netaji died in an air crash in Taihoku, Taipei, on August 18, 1945. But Justice Mukherjee Commission (1999) opined that there was no such air crash at all. The chapter 'Unforgettable Past' has added special importance to the book. It is a chronology of events in Netaji's life and activities.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere offers a lucid, dynamic, and highly readable history of Japan's attempt to usher in a new order in Asia during World War II." ― Cross-Currents: East Asian History and Culture Review In The Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere, Jeremy A. Yellen exposes the history, politics, and intrigue that characterized the era when Japan's "total empire" met the total war of World War II. He illuminates the ways in which the imperial center and its individual colonies understood the concept of the Sphere, offering two sometimes competing, sometimes complementary, and always intertwined visions—one from Japan, the other from Burma and the Philippines. Yellen argues that, from 1940 to 1945, the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere epitomized two concurrent wars for Asia's future: the first was for a new type of empire in Asia, and the second was a political war, waged by nationalist elites in the colonial capitals of Rangoon and Manila. Exploring Japanese visions for international order in the face of an ever-changing geopolitical situation, The Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere explores wartime Japan's desire to shape and control its imperial future while its colonies attempted to do the same. At Japan's zenith as an imperial power, the Sphere represented a plan for regional domination; by the end of the war, it had been recast as the epitome of cooperative internationalism. In the end, the Sphere could not survive wartime defeat, and Yellen's lucidly written account reveals much about the desires of Japan as an imperial and colonial power, as well as the ways in which the subdued colonies in Burma and the Philippines jockeyed for agency and a say in the future of the region.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Azad Hind Fauj' still holds a special place in the hearts of millions of Indians. In 1944, the Azad Hind Fauj confronted the British in a direct combat, liberating places like Kohima and Pallel, among other Indian regions, from British rule. On September 22, 1944, during Martyrs' Day, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, using poignant words, told his soldiers, "Our motherland is in search of freedom. You give me blood, and I will give you freedom." Unfortunately, the tide of World War Il turned, with Germany's surrender and Japan also facing defeat. Consequently, these countries reneged on their support for the Azad Hind Fauj. Around the same time, the British devised strategies to corner Netaji. As a result, Netaji had to retreat towards Tokyo, and it is said that he met his fate in a plane crash. Today, the Azad Hind Fauj is enshrined in golden letters in India's glorious and revolutionary history. This book provides a window into the true history of freedom fighters who sacrificed everything for the nation's independence. It narrates an inspirational tale of the revolutionary movements and the sacrifices made by devoted patriots during India's struggle for independence, making it an incredibly compelling read.

Book excerpt: This book records a brief description of my early life in a lower middle-class family of rural Karnataka, followed by an account of my short-lived career in the British Indian Army during World War II and, lastly, the story of the Indian National Army in which I was privileged to serve as a minor functionary from its very inception until the tragic day when it passed off into history. The narrative also details my bitter experiences as a prisoner-of-war in Japanese hands, my daring escape from captivity, my subsequent trials, and tribulations as a fugitive in Singapore and Malaya and, later on, the humble role which I played in the battle for freedom on the Indo-Burmese frontier. And towards the end, I have recounted the hard times which I had to face in the wake of the collapse of our armed struggle against the British forces.
