He was pro- bably a son of Elizabeth (Armstrong) Morton, who later married Thomas Douglas and lived in Highland County, Virginia. Edward also settled in Pendleton (later Highland) County, Virginia and married Sarah Allison. Descendants and relatives lived in Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Washington, California and elsewhere.

He married Sarah Allison and settled on a farm in Highland Co., Virginia. Later, they moved to Webster Co., West Virginia. They were the parents of two children. Their son Thomas Morton is the progenitor of the family in Webster Co. Thomas was born in Pendleton Co., Virginia. He married Ellener Leach, daughter of John Leach and Margaret Cherry. They were the parents of nine children: Edward, John L., Robert, George W., Thomas J., Margaret, Polly, Sarah and Elizabeth. The family settled permanently on Stroud's Creek, Webster Co., West Virginia. Several generations of descendants are given.

An early ancestor, Robert Throckmorton of Halifax Co., Va., purchased land in Halifax County in 1764. He may be possibly the son of John Throckmorton III of Perth Amboy, N.J. in 1747. George W. Morton (1837-1819) was the son of Thomas Morton and Emilia Young. Thomas Morton dropped the "Throck" from his name when moving to Clay Co., W. Va. in 1820. George W. Morton married Elmyria Sizemore (1840-1886). He married (2) Liza Blount. He had eleven children. His son by his first wife, Jesse (1859-1922), married Mary Jane Carner (1859-1938) born in Summers Co., W. Va. Descendants live in West Virginia and elsewhere.
