Histopathology Specimens: Clinical, Pathological and Laboratory Aspects, Second Edition explains pathological and clinical terminology, including a glossary of clinical request form abbreviations. A standardised step-wise approach to specimen handling is illustrated with simple line diagrams and highlights essentials of the histopathology report, relating them to appropriate specimen dissection. The integrated multidisciplinary team approach taken to the modern clinical management of patients is reflected by correlating patient presentation, diagnostic and staging investigations with histopathology specimens. Current WHO and TNM tumor classifications are referenced. Histopathology Specimens: Clinical, Pathological and Laboratory Aspects, Second Edition will be of educative value and act as a reference tool for the medical undergraduate student, medical trainee in histopathology and the biomedical scientist, and as a useful aide memoire for the histopathology consultant.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first edition of this book was written prior to 1991 and it seemed appropriate to revise and update the text in view of the rapid expansion in information which has occurred in the last decade. Furthermore, in the first edition, the reproduction of some of the illustrations was not of sufficient standard to be of value to the reader. Accordingly some of the inadequate figures have been replaced by colour figures which have been inserted into the text. Colour has also been included because many histopathological illustrations, e. g. special stains such as Gram, PAS, trichrome stains etc. , and immunohistochemical reactions, are much better appreciated. With regard to references, I have taken advantage of the currently available access to all the medical literat ure, which is what I anticipate will be the course of action of the reader. Glasgow, 2001 Acknowledgements It is a pleasure to re cord the support I have received in the last decade from Professors Wallace Foulds, Colin Kirkness and Gordon Dutton and from Mr Bertil Damato in their continuing efforts to educate me in the subtleties of clinical ophthalmology. I am particularly indebted to Dr Sarah Coupland who provided the information on lymphoid neoplasia which is included in this book and I must thank Dr Weng Sehu who established the computer equipment which has been so valuable in the preparation of the new illustrations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A strong grounding in basic histology is essential for all pathologists. However, there had always been a gap between histology and pathology in which histologic information specifically for the pathologist was often lacking. Histology for Pathologists deals with the microscopic features of normal human tissues, from the perspective of the surgical pathologist. This is the only text that uses human (vs. animal) tissues for the histology. It is the best reference in the literature for information on normal histology, and, as such, is essential for all clinical pathologists. Written by pathologists for pathologists, the new edition updates the pathologist's understanding of normal histology up to date with the incremental advances made in the last five years. The 3rd edition has become a "classic" purchased by virtually all residents beginning their pathology training, as well as pathologists in practice. The 4th edition builds on that substantial foundation. The table of contents remains essentially the same with the exception of some changes in authorship.

Book excerpt: Histopathology Reporting: Guidelines for Surgical Cancer provides an easily comprehensible and practicable framework for standardised histopathology reports in surgical cancer. The book details the gross description, histological classification, tumour differentiation, extent of local tumour spread, involvement of lymphovascular channels, lymph nodes and excision margins of the common carcinomas and also summarises non-carcinomatous malignancies. The 5th edition TNM classification of cancers is incorporated, with comments on any associated pathology, diagnostic clues and prognostic criteria. Staging information is supplemented visually by line diagrams. The aim of Histopathology Reporting: Guidelines for Surgical Cancer is to be educative and applied. The book: * emphasises those gross and histological features that are relevant to clinical management and prognosis. * uses a systematic and analytical approach to the description of surgical pathology specimens resulting in focused histopathology reports. * acts as a companion or aide-memoire for routine reporting of the common cancers and also lists diagnostic options and summary features of rarer cancers. * facilitates audit of specimen type and quality and gives guidance for pathological, surgical and oncological practice.
