Book excerpt: Until recently, organized philanthropy in the United States has largely ignored Hispanic population groups, due to language and cultural barriers. In this issue of New Directions for Philanthropic Fundraising, the authors report on research conducted with leading Hispanic philanthropists, fundraising professionals, and nonprofit executives about the current status of giving and asking in Hispanic American communities and their attitudes and beliefs about philanthropy. Chapters examine the effect of education and religion on Hispanic philanthropy; describe the development, implementation, and results of a fundraising training program conducted in Hispanic nonprofits; and illustrate how Hispanic women are transforming the nonprofit sector and philanthropy. This is the 24th issue of the quarterly journal New Directions for Philanthropic Fundraising.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This working paper offers a descriptive analysis of the Latino nonprofit sector in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. It examines the extent to which Latino nonprofits are equipped to address the needs of a rapidly growing Latino population. The study finds that both nonprofit organizations and religious congregations that primarily serve Latinos offer a wide range of services. Many of these groups are located in the suburbs. While Latino nonprofits constitute a significant economic presence in the region, the majority of organizations remain small. Data on nonprofits are drawn from the National Center for Charitable Statistics, and data on churches were collected by telephone survey.

Book excerpt: This collection brings together the views of a stellar assemblage of scholars, practitioners, . . . and a host of other talented and distinguished citizens of the independent sector . . . . A 'must read.' —Philanthropy Monthly In an attempt to analyze future directions of the increasingly influential nonprofit sector, the American Assembly and the Indiana Center on Philanthropy sponsored a conference that brought in leading scholars and practitioners. Participants were asked to consider what forces will determine the shape and activities of philanthropy and the nonprofit sector in the next decade. This volume is a product of this inquiry. Contributors focused on a variety of pressures, including the devolution of federal programs, the blurring of lines between non-profit and for-profit organizations; the changing distributions of income; a revived interest in community and civil society; the evolution of religion and other regulatory reform; and a retreat of government from various policy areas.

This book was released on 2022 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The nonprofit sector is an essential and valuable resource in the United States for aiding marginalized populations. This study focuses on how nonprofit health organizations provide and innovate HIV services, and how they can overcome barriers in delivering quality services for HIV/AIDS education, prevention, and treatment to Latinos in Texas. Nonprofit organizations are on the front lines of the HIV/AIDS fight, through their outreach in the areas of education, prevention, and testing. Nonprofit organizations are examined for barriers and innovations in service delivery as it applies to the Latino community. This study also examines how the integration of Critical Race and Latino Critical Theory principles can create knowledge and understanding of marginalized groups, which can lead to more well informed innovation and practice. There are currently fifty-four million Latinos living in the United States, which makes it the largest ethnic and racial minority group in the country. In the United States, education, outreach, and treatment for HIV/AIDS focuses on all groups as the virus transcends barriers of race and sexuality, but Latinos face significant issues related to culture and immigration status that require nuanced and informed approaches to gain the community's trust and deliver services. A critical approach to innovation can lead to the development of new programs and foster trust between the Latino community and nonprofit organizations.
