Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Golden Kite Award for Nonfiction Webster’s American Dictionary is the second most popular book ever printed in English. But who was that Webster? Noah Webster (1758–1843) was a bookish Connecticut farm boy who became obsessed with uniting America through language. He spent twenty years writing two thousand pages to accomplish that, and the first 100 percent American dictionary was published in 1828 when he was seventy years old. This clever, hilariously illustrated account shines a light on early American history and the life of a man who could not rest until he’d achieved his dream. An illustrated chronology of Webster’s life makes this a picture perfect bi-og-ra-phy [noun: a written history of a person's life].

Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A “brilliant [and] entrancing” (The Guardian) journey into the hidden lives of fungi—the great connectors of the living world—and their astonishing and intimate roles in human life, with the power to heal our bodies, expand our minds, and help us address our most urgent environmental problems. “Grand and dizzying in how thoroughly it recalibrates our understanding of the natural world.”—Ed Yong, author of An Immense World ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR—Time, BBC Science Focus, The Daily Mail, Geographical, The Times, The Telegraph, New Statesman, London Evening Standard, Science Friday When we think of fungi, we likely think of mushrooms. But mushrooms are only fruiting bodies, analogous to apples on a tree. Most fungi live out of sight, yet make up a massively diverse kingdom of organisms that supports and sustains nearly all living systems. Fungi provide a key to understanding the planet on which we live, and the ways we think, feel, and behave. In the first edition of this mind-bending book, Sheldrake introduced us to this mysterious but massively diverse kingdom of life. This exquisitely designed volume, abridged from the original, features more than one hundred full-color images that bring the spectacular variety, strangeness, and beauty of fungi to life as never before. Fungi throw our concepts of individuality and even intelligence into question. They are metabolic masters, earth makers, and key players in most of life’s processes. They can change our minds, heal our bodies, and even help us remediate environmental disaster. By examining fungi on their own terms, Sheldrake reveals how these extraordinary organisms—and our relationships with them—are changing our understanding of how life works. Winner of the Wainwright Prize, the Royal Society Science Book Prize, and the Guild of Food Writers Award • Shortlisted for the British Book Award • Longlisted for the Rathbones Folio Prize

Martin's voice kept people in their seats, but also sent their praises soaring. Mahalia's voice was brass-and-butter - strong and smooth at the same time. With Martin's sermons and Mahalia's songs, folks were free to shout, to sing their joy. On August 28, 1963, Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his famous "I Have a Dream" speech from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, and his strong voice and powerful message were joined and lifted in song by world-renowned gospel singer Mahalia Jackson. It was a moment that changed the course of history and is imprinted in minds forever. Told through Andrea Davis Pinkney's poetic prose and Brian Pinkney's evocative illustration, the stories of these two powerful voices and lives are told side-by-side -- as they would one day walk -- following the journey from their youth to a culmination at this historical event when they united as one and inspiring kids to find their own voices and speak up for what is right.

Book Synopsis The Superman and His Words by : Rev. Dr. John Akinyemi

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: They didn't know that the quiet child who was growing up was the one whom it was said that all things were made through Him, and without Him, not anything was made that has been made; that in Him, not anything was made that has been made; and that in Him was life (Zoe); and that He was the light of men. The whole world has been expecting a superman. The first superman came as a root out of the dry ground. No one recognized Him. No one knew that God could manifest in the flesh. They didn't know that the logos of God, who had been with God and who was God (Proverb 8:22-30), could have been with them when they were still looking elsewhere. The world has not known that there is a superman in their midst today. They don't know that every new creation is a superman in the embryo and that all that embryo needs is to know what it is, what it can do, what the Father expects it to do, and what the Father has empowered it to be and to do in the world.

Book Synopsis The Heart: His Words + My Thoughts by : Tanya Swygert
Download or read book The Heart: His Words + My Thoughts written by Tanya Swygert and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2017-11-29 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The scriptures remind us to diligently guard our hearts, and the Bible helps us see why it is so critical to do so. In Genesis 6:5, the scriptures record that God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the Earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. This wickedness continues today, and with all these maladies, it is no wonder the Word exhorts us to guard our hearts! In The Heart: His Words + My Thoughts, author and minister Tanya Swygert reflects on the important reminder in Proverbs to guard our hearts, and she offers sixteen thought-provoking devotionals about the heart. Sharing her heartfelt messages in a conversational, down-to-earth way, Tanya hopes fellow believers will be inspired to examine their own hearts according to Gods words. Whether it is protecting our hearts from evil and pain or opening up and softening our hearts to love, repair, and joy, God has provided in his Word a way for us to master the task. If our hearts are obstinate, pained, proud, fearful, rebellious, foolish, or blind, we can by Gods grace and mercy learn how to instead guard them and have hearts that are clean, fixed, and pure. We can also have the assurance that Christ will dwell in our hearts by faith, helping us know that the course of life we take will be pleasing in Gods sight.

Book Synopsis The Resonance of God, His Words with Love by : Willie Wallace
Download or read book The Resonance of God, His Words with Love written by Willie Wallace and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2017-02-15 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Resonance was initiated by God in the beginning of all of his creation. The Word of God is where resonance first began. Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” This is an example of how intense resonance impacts all of God’s creation. This is what makes him omnipresent and makes him a part of each and every one of us. God’s resonance is in his storms. They take on the form of cleansing winds. When there is too much immorality in any area, God sends his storms to clean up the environment. Jeremiah 23:19 says, “Behold, a whirlwind of the Lord is gone forth in fury, even a grievous whirlwind: It shall fall grievously upon the head of the wicked.” Nahum 1:3 says, “The Lord is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: The Lord hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.” This confirms that we have power with our God and can control what type of weather we have simply by our own behavior. Keeping God’s laws, statues, judgments, and commandments gives us all the blessings that we could ever want.
