Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Maximum Principles for the Hill's Equation focuses on the application of these methods to nonlinear equations with singularities (e.g. Brillouin-bem focusing equation, Ermakov-Pinney,...) and for problems with parametric dependence. The authors discuss the properties of the related Green’s functions coupled with different boundary value conditions. In addition, they establish the equations’ relationship with the spectral theory developed for the homogeneous case, and discuss stability and constant sign solutions. Finally, reviews of present classical and recent results made by the authors and by other key authors are included. Evaluates classical topics in the Hill’s equation that are crucial for understanding modern physical models and non-linear applications Describes explicit and effective conditions on maximum and anti-maximum principles Collates information from disparate sources in one self-contained volume, with extensive referencing throughout

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundamentals of Receptor, Enzyme, and Transport Kinetics is the first book to pull together the most important topics in receptor, enzyme, and transport kinetics into a concise, easy-to-use format. Numerous equations are included, and key equations are graphed. For each graphed equation, important features are carefully explained. The book is organized so that simple material is presented first, providing a firm foundation on which to cover the advanced topics which appear later. Terminology used throughout the book is consistent with that used in scientific literature, and concepts are explained using analogies from daily life. The book also features two important appendices that will be particularly useful learning tools. The first appendix outlines all of the key equations from the text and indicates their use. The second appendix is a set of sample calculation problems and their solutions. Fundamentals of Receptor, Enzyme, and Transport Kinetics is an excellent text/reference for pharmacologists, biological chemists, experimental biologists, neurochemists, neurotoxicologists, physiologists, and toxicologists. It is also suitable as a graduate-level text in pharmacology and medical pharmacology.

This book was released on 2003-05-23 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 0.1 Introduction These lecture notes describe a new development in the calculus of variations which is called Aubry-Mather-Theory. The starting point for the theoretical physicist Aubry was a model for the descrip tion of the motion of electrons in a two-dimensional crystal. Aubry investigated a related discrete variational problem and the corresponding minimal solutions. On the other hand, Mather started with a specific class of area-preserving annulus mappings, the so-called monotone twist maps. These maps appear in mechanics as Poincare maps. Such maps were studied by Birkhoff during the 1920s in several papers. In 1982, Mather succeeded to make essential progress in this field and to prove the existence of a class of closed invariant subsets which are now called Mather sets. His existence theorem is based again on a variational principle. Although these two investigations have different motivations, they are closely re lated and have the same mathematical foundation. We will not follow those ap proaches but will make a connection to classical results of Jacobi, Legendre, Weier strass and others from the 19th century. Therefore in Chapter I, we will put together the results of the classical theory which are the most important for us. The notion of extremal fields will be most relevant. In Chapter II we will investigate variational problems on the 2-dimensional torus. We will look at the corresponding global minimals as well as at the relation be tween minimals and extremal fields. In this way, we will be led to Mather sets.
