Download or read book A Concrete Introduction to Higher Algebra written by Lindsay N. Childs and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-04 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An informal and readable introduction to higher algebra at the post-calculus level. The concepts of ring and field are introduced through study of the familiar examples of the integers and polynomials, with much emphasis placed on congruence classes leading the way to finite groups and finite fields. New examples and theory are integrated in a well-motivated fashion and made relevant by many applications -- to cryptography, coding, integration, history of mathematics, and especially to elementary and computational number theory. The later chapters include expositions of Rabiin's probabilistic primality test, quadratic reciprocity, and the classification of finite fields. Over 900 exercises, ranging from routine examples to extensions of theory, are scattered throughout the book, with hints and answers for many of them included in an appendix.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is written as an introduction to higher algebra for students with a background of a year of calculus. The book developed out of a set of notes for a sophomore-junior level course at the State University of New York at Albany entitled Classical Algebra. In the 1950s and before, it was customary for the first course in algebra to be a course in the theory of equations, consisting of a study of polynomials over the complex, real, and rational numbers, and, to a lesser extent, linear algebra from the point of view of systems of equations. Abstract algebra, that is, the study of groups, rings, and fields, usually followed such a course. In recent years the theory of equations course has disappeared. Without it, students entering abstract algebra courses tend to lack the experience in the algebraic theory of the basic classical examples of the integers and polynomials necessary for understanding, and more importantly, for ap preciating the formalism. To meet this problem, several texts have recently appeared introducing algebra through number theory.
Book Synopsis Advanced Algebra by : Anthony W. Knapp
Download or read book Advanced Algebra written by Anthony W. Knapp and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-10-11 with total page 730 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Basic Algebra and Advanced Algebra systematically develop concepts and tools in algebra that are vital to every mathematician, whether pure or applied, aspiring or established. Advanced Algebra includes chapters on modern algebra which treat various topics in commutative and noncommutative algebra and provide introductions to the theory of associative algebras, homological algebras, algebraic number theory, and algebraic geometry. Many examples and hundreds of problems are included, along with hints or complete solutions for most of the problems. Together the two books give the reader a global view of algebra and its role in mathematics as a whole.

Book excerpt: The Classic Texts Series is the only of its kind selection of classic pieces of work that started off as bestseller and continues to be the bestseller even today. These classic texts have been designed so as to work as elementary textbooks which play a crucial role in building the concepts from scratch as in-depth knowledge of concepts is necessary for students preparing for various entrance exams. The present book on Higher Algebrapresents all the elements of Higher Algebra in a single book meant to work as textbook for the students beginning their preparation of the varied aspects covered under Higher Algebra. The present book has been divided into 35 chapters namely Ratio, Proportion, Variation, Arithmetical Progression, Geometrical Progression, Harmonical Progression Theorems Connected with The Progression, Scales of Notation, Surds & Imaginary Quantities, The Theory of Quadratic Equations, Miscellaneous Equations, Permutations & Combinations, Mathematical Induction, Binomial Theorem Positive Integral Index, Binomial Theorem, Any Index, Multinational Theorem, Logarithms, Exponential & Logarithmic Series, Interest & Annuities, Inequalities, Limiting Values & Vanishing Fractions, Convergency&Divergency of Series, Undetermined Coefficients, Partial Fractions, Recurring Series, Continued Fractions, Recurring Series, Continued Fractions, Indeterminate Equations of the First Degree, Recurring Continued Fractions, Indeterminate Equations of the Second Degree, Summation of Series, Theory of Numbers, The General Theory of Continued Fractions, Probability, Determinants, Miscellaneous Theorems & Examples and Theory of Equations, each subdivided into number of topics. The first few chapters in the book have been devoted to a fuller discussion of Ratio, Proportions, Variation and the Progressions. Both the theoretical text as well as examples have been treated minutely which will help in better understanding of the concepts covered in the book. Theoretical explanation of the concepts in points has been provided at the beginning of each chapter. At the end of each chapter, unsolved practice exercises have been provided to help aspirants revise the concepts discussed in the chapter. At the end of chapterwise study, miscellaneous examples have also been given along with answers and solutions to the unsolved examples covered in each chapter. All the relevant theorems covered under the syllabi of Higher Algebra have also been covered in the detail in this book.As the book covers the whole syllabi of Higher Algebra in detail along with ample number of solved examples, it for sure will help the students perfect the varied concepts covered under the Higher Algebra section.
Book Synopsis Higher Topos Theory (AM-170) by : Jacob Lurie
Download or read book Higher Topos Theory (AM-170) written by Jacob Lurie and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2009-07-06 with total page 944 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Higher category theory is generally regarded as technical and forbidding, but part of it is considerably more tractable: the theory of infinity-categories, higher categories in which all higher morphisms are assumed to be invertible. In Higher Topos Theory, Jacob Lurie presents the foundations of this theory, using the language of weak Kan complexes introduced by Boardman and Vogt, and shows how existing theorems in algebraic topology can be reformulated and generalized in the theory's new language. The result is a powerful theory with applications in many areas of mathematics. The book's first five chapters give an exposition of the theory of infinity-categories that emphasizes their role as a generalization of ordinary categories. Many of the fundamental ideas from classical category theory are generalized to the infinity-categorical setting, such as limits and colimits, adjoint functors, ind-objects and pro-objects, locally accessible and presentable categories, Grothendieck fibrations, presheaves, and Yoneda's lemma. A sixth chapter presents an infinity-categorical version of the theory of Grothendieck topoi, introducing the notion of an infinity-topos, an infinity-category that resembles the infinity-category of topological spaces in the sense that it satisfies certain axioms that codify some of the basic principles of algebraic topology. A seventh and final chapter presents applications that illustrate connections between the theory of higher topoi and ideas from classical topology.
