Book Synopsis Strength of High Strength Concrete Columns Under Eccentric Compression by : R. H. Basappa Setty
Download or read book Strength of High Strength Concrete Columns Under Eccentric Compression written by R. H. Basappa Setty and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The research work involved a study of behaviour and strength of eccentrically loaded High Strength Concrete columns. The research comprised experimental and analytical components. With regard to experimental work, twelve columns were manufactured and tested to failure. All columns were rectangular in cross-section with 300 mm x 100 mm as dimensions. The test specimens were loaded about the minor axis. The ratio of longitudinal reinforcement was either 1.47% (4 - 12 mm diameter bars) or 2.2% (6 - 12 mm diameter bars). The lateral reinforcement was in the form of rectangular closed ties made of 6 mm wires (W6). The spacing of ties was generally 50 mm, but, was decreased to 30 mm, at either ends to avoid premature failure.

Download or read book Advances in Organic Farming written by Vijay Singh Meena and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2021-08-10 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in Organic Farming: Agronomic Soil Management Practices focuses on the integrated interactions between soil-plant-microbe-environment elements in a functioning ecosystem. It explains sustainable nutrient management under organic farming and agriculture, with chapters focusing on the role of nutrient management in sustaining global ecosystems, the remediation of polluted soils, conservation practices, degradation of pollutants, biofertilizers and biopesticides, critical biogeochemical cycles, potential responses for current and impending environmental change, and other critical factors. Organic farming is both challenging and exciting, as its practice of "feeding the soil, not the plant provides opportunity to better understand why some growing methods are preferred over others. In the simplest terms, organic growing is based on maintaining a living soil with a diverse population of micro and macro soil organisms. Organic matter (OM) is maintained in the soil through the addition of compost, animal manure, green manures and the avoidance of excess mechanization. - Presents a comprehensive overview of recent advances and new developments in the field OF research within a relevant theoretical framework - Highlights the scope of the inexpensive and improved management practices - Focuses on the role of nutrient management in sustaining the ecosystems

Book Synopsis Continuous and Discontinuous Modelling of Fracture in Concrete Using FEM by : Jacek Tejchman
Download or read book Continuous and Discontinuous Modelling of Fracture in Concrete Using FEM written by Jacek Tejchman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-07-28 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book analyzes a quasi-static fracture process in concrete and reinforced concrete by means of constitutive models formulated within continuum mechanics. A continuous and discontinuous modelling approach was used. Using a continuous approach, numerical analyses were performed using a finite element method and four different enhanced continuum models: isotropic elasto-plastic, isotropic damage and anisotropic smeared crack one. The models were equipped with a characteristic length of micro-structure by means of a non-local and a second-gradient theory. So they could properly describe the formation of localized zones with a certain thickness and spacing and a related deterministic size effect. Using a discontinuous FE approach, numerical results of cracks using a cohesive crack model and XFEM were presented which were also properly regularized. Finite element analyses were performed with concrete elements under monotonic uniaxial compression, uniaxial tension, bending and shear-extension. Concrete beams under cyclic loading were also simulated using a coupled elasto-plastic-damage approach. Numerical simulations were performed at macro- and meso-level of concrete. A stochastic and deterministic size effect was carefully investigated. In the case of reinforced concrete specimens, FE calculations were carried out with bars, slender and short beams, columns, corbels and tanks. Tensile and shear failure mechanisms were studied. Numerical results were compared with results from corresponding own and known in the scientific literature laboratory and full-scale tests.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present book gathers a large amount of the recent research results on this topic to provide a better understanding of the size effect by giving a quantitative description of the relationship between the properties of engineering concrete-making material (e.g. the nominal strength) and the corresponding structure size. To be precise, this is about to explore the new static and dynamic unified size effect laws for concrete materials, as well as size effect laws for concrete components. Besides presenting clear and accurate descriptions that further deepen our fundamental knowledge, this book provides additionally useful tools for the scientific design of concrete structures in practical engineering applications.

Field blast test results on reinforced concrete columns made with UHPC and UHPC filled double-skin tubes columns are also presented and compiled, as is the residual load-carrying capacities of blast-damaged structural members and the exceptional performance of novel UHPC materials that illustrate its potential in protective structural design. As a notable representative, ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) has now been widely investigated by government agencies and universities. UHPC inherits many positive aspects of ultra-high strength concrete (UHSC) and is equipped with improved ductility as a result of fiber addition. These features make it an ideal construction material for bridge decks, storage halls, thin-wall shell structures, and other infrastructure because of its protective properties against seismic, impact and blast loads. - Focuses on the principles behind UHPC production, properties, design and detailing aspects - Presents a series of case studies and filed blast tests on columns and slabs - Focuses on applications and future developments
