Book excerpt: This is an easy-to-read, beautifully illustrated book that teaches little ones about connecting to their emotions through the power of crystals. You will meet Crystal, the main character, who will guide you on an adventure to meet her five friends- Fluorite, Lapis Lazuli, Carnelian, Amethyst, and Rose Quartz. Each crystal character gives examples of when they can be used as a tool for emotional support. Additionally, each crystal is paired with a simple affirmation relevant to its energetic superpowers that can be harnessed by a child to gain a better sense of clarity, confidence, creativity, calmness, and self-love. If a child feels called to it, they can draw their feelings in the back of the book on the "Color with Crystal" pages, or perhaps practice writing the affirmations provided. While a child can hold crystals in their hands literally, they will learn that the true magic is always in their hands emotionally.**Please note that no gemstones, crystals, or rocks are included with the purchase of this book.**

Book excerpt: A coven of witches reaches out to one of its former warriors in a “wonderful” Lyra novel “filled with incredible world-building and characters” (Open Book Society). For more than a decade, Kayl has run a modest country inn. She opened it with her husband, and they managed it together until a summer illness took him away, leaving her alone with their two children. The three of them get by, living happily together as the years pass, but everything changes the day a sorceress asks for a room. Her name is Corrana, and by her silver brooch Kayl knows that she is a member of the order of Sisterhood of Stars, a coven of witches that Kayl left after a secret mission went horribly wrong. Kayl is sure that Corrana has come to take her back to the life she had renounced years before. Now, to save her family and her world, she will have to unlock a side of herself that she buried long ago.

Book excerpt: "Nature performs not hing vainly, and makes nothing unnecessary" Aristotle Interest in the passage of charged particles through crystals first appeared at the beginning of this century following experiments on x-ray diffraction in crystallattices, which provided the proof of an ordered distribution of atoms in a crystal. Stark [1] put forward the hypothesis that certain directions in a crystal should be relatively transparent to charged particles. These first ideas on the channeling of charged particles in crystals were forgotten but became topical again in the early 1960s when the channeling effect was rediscovered by computer simulation [2] and in experiments [3] that revealed anomalously long ion ranges in crystals. The orientational ef fects during the passage of charged particles through crystals have been found for a whole range of processes characterized by small impact parameters for collisions between particles and atoms: nuclear reactions, large-angle scatter ing, energy losses. Lindhard explained the channeling of charged particles in crystals [4]. The results of the numerous investigations into the channeling of low-energy (amounting to several MeV) charged particles in crystals have been summarized in several monographs and reviews [5~8l.

Book excerpt: Radiation Processes In Crystal Solid Solutions is a monograph explaining processes occurring in two classes of crystal solids (metal alloys and doped alkali halides) under irradiation by various types of radiation (alpha, beta, gamma, X-radiations, ions). While metal alloys may differ in high radiation stability, solid solutions based on alkali halides are very radiation-sensitive materials. Radiation defect production mechanisms, intrinsic and extrinsic radiation defects, a role of complexes an impurity-radiation defect which explain distinction in radiating stability of the specified classes of solid solutions are discussed in this e-book. To describe radiation induced phase transformations, two approaches are highlighted: kinetic and thermodynamic. This e-book also includes research on the effect of small radiation doses in a structurally solid phase state of a solution along with a semi-quantitative estimation of radiation effects with respect to temperature changes. This e-book should be a useful reference for advanced readers interested in the physics of radiation and solid state physics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is no question that the field of solid state electronics, which essentially began with work at Bell laboratories just after World War II, has had a profound impact on today's Society. What is not nearly so widely known is that advances in the art and science of crystal growth underpin this technology. Single crystals, once valued only for their beauty, are now found, in one form or another in most electronic, optoelectronic and numerous optical devices. These devices, in turn, have permeated almost every home and village throughout the world. In fact it is hard to imagine what our electronics industry, much less our entire civilization, would have been like if crystal growth scientists and engineers were unable to produce the large, defect free crystals required by device designers. This book brings together two sets of related articles describing advances made in crystal growth science and technology since World War II. One set is from the proceedings of a Symposium held in August 2002 to celebrate 50 years of progress in the field of crystal growth. The second contains articles previously published in the newsletter of the American Association for Crystal Growth in a series called "Milestones in Crystal Growth".The first section of this book contains several articles which describe some of the early history of crystal growth prior to the electronics revolution, and upon which modern crystal growth science and technology is based. This is followed by a special article by Prof. Sunagawa which provides some insight into how the successful Japanese crystal growth industry developed. The next section deals with crystal growth fundamentals including concepts of solute distribution, interface kinetics, constitutional supercooling, morphological stability and the growth of dendrites. The following section describes the growth of crystals from melts and solutions, while the final part involves thin film growth by MBE and OMVPE.These articles were written by some of the most famous theorists and crystal growers working in the field. They will provide future research workers with valuable insight into how these pioneering discoveries were made, and show how their own research and future devices will be based upon these developments. · Articles written by some of the most famous theorists and crystal growers working in the field· Valuable insight into how pioneering discoveries were made.· Show how their own research and future devices will be based upon these developments

Book excerpt: The Fifth International Conference on Calorimetry in High Energy Physics was held Sept. 25 - Oct. 1, 1994 at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The results presented show that calorimetry is a key element in the experiments at the frontier. As these experiments evolve, there are new challenges for calorimetry in terms of performance in energy and position resolution at ever increasing rates. The proceedings document the state-of-the-art in calorimetry.
