Book Synopsis "Genizat Germania" - Hebrew and Aramaic Binding Fragments from Germany in Context by : Andreas Lehnardt
Download or read book "Genizat Germania" - Hebrew and Aramaic Binding Fragments from Germany in Context written by Andreas Lehnardt and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2010-03-08 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Genizat Germania” is a project at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz focused on the search for and analysis of Hebrew and Aramaic binding fragments found in the books and files of archives and libraries. In recent years this systematic search has revealed several hundred new fragments, including some rare Talmudic, Midrashic and liturgical fragments. The new discoveries both in Germany and elsewhere in Europe have broadened the knowledge of Jewish literature in the Middle Ages and Early Modern periods. This volume collects the papers of international scholars which cover recent discoveries in Germany, the “European Genizah” or fragments found in Italy, Poland, Great Britain and Austria, the approaches of similar projects in Austria and the Czech Republic, as well as an extensive bibliography.

She doesn't know where they are, where to look, or if she'll ever find them. While Taran's powers are growing, so is her fear and anxiety. Answers elude her, and no one understands her terror. Not even Coll. And time is running out. Every second brings them closer and closer to nothing. And closer to the waning end of the hexen race.

Book Synopsis The Concept of Ecostacking by : Jinjun Wang
Download or read book The Concept of Ecostacking written by Jinjun Wang and published by CABI. This book was released on 2024-03-19 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ecostacking is a new concept and approach which aims to maximize the benefits of ecosystem service providers in cropping systems to help achieve the goal of long-term sustainable agriculture and food production. The term "ecostacking" means combining synergistically the beneficial services of functional biodiversity from all levels and types. It is a comprehensive approach, where the various ecosystem service providers are fully integrated with the rest of the cropping system including agronomic practices. It is an approach which goes beyond conventional Integrated Pest Management practises, and attempts to take advantage of all the functional biodiversity of a system. The Concept of Ecostacking is the first book in a series which introduces ecostacking concepts to the reader and explores how this approach can be used in a variety of ways and in different cropping systems. The book defines this new concept and shows, using illustrative case studies from around the world, how ecostacking principles can be successfully employed in cropping systems in the open field, in greenhouses and in forestry. This book has been written and edited by the world's leading experts in this new and exciting endeavour, and is a must-read for everyone with an interest in developing sustainable crop protection systems and ecosystem management.

Book excerpt: "The magic calls her. A prophecy binds her. The ancestors guide her. Dr. Taran Grim, a young professor of occult studies, knows the written history of witches better than anyone in her field. And she should. She’s one of them. After a mysterious stranger arrives at her office inquiring about the mythical staff of Woden, Taran’s curiosity reveals a millennia-old prophesy directly tied to her. The answers wait in Bryden, England and the only person who can help her gain access to the hidden valley is the descendant of Ruhmactir, and a member of the shape-shifting Geri clan: Collens “Coll” Donovan. But the Donovans have secrets of their own, and Taran’s underdeveloped magic is wreaking strange havoc on her life. If she can’t manage her magic and strike a truce with Coll, they’ll fail to prevent the prophesied event known as Deireanhexe: the end of the hexen race."

Book Synopsis Ome-wide Studies of Grapevine Fruit Composition and Responses to Agro-environmental Factors in the Era of Systems Biology by : José Tomás Matus
Download or read book Ome-wide Studies of Grapevine Fruit Composition and Responses to Agro-environmental Factors in the Era of Systems Biology written by José Tomás Matus and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2019-12-06 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fruits play a substantial role in the human diet as a source of vitamins, minerals, dietary fiber and a wide range of molecules relevant to health promotion and disease prevention. The characterization of genes involved in the accumulation of these molecules during fruit development and ripening, and in the overall plant’s response to the environment, constitutes a fundamental step for improving yield- and quality-related traits, and for predicting this crop’s behavior in the field. This is certainly the case for grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.), one of the most largely cultivated fruit crops in the world. The cultivation of this species is facing challenging scenarios driven by climate change – including increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2), solar radiation, and earth surface temperature, and decreases of water and nutrient availability. All these events will potentially affect the grapevine phenology, physiology, and metabolism in many growing regions and ultimately affect the quality of their fruits and of the most important derived product, the wine. The sequencing of the grapevine genome has given rise to a new era, characterized by the generation of large-scale data that requires complex computational analyses. Numerous transcriptomic and metabolomic studies have been performed in the past fifteen years, providing insights into the gene circuits that control the accumulation of all sorts of metabolites in grapevines. From now on, the integration of two or more ‘omics’ will allow depicting gene-transcript-metabolite networks from a more holistic (i.e. systems) perspective. This eBook attempts to support this new direction, by gathering innovative studies that assess the impact of genotypes, the environment, and agronomical practices on fruits at the ‘ome’-scale. The works hereby collected are part of a Research Topic covering the use of ‘omics’-driven strategies to understand how environmental factors and agronomical practices – including microclimate modification (e.g. sunlight incidence or temperature), water availability and irrigation, and postharvest management – affect fruit development and composition. These studies report well-settled transcriptomic and metabolomic methods, in addition to newly-developed techniques addressing proteome profiles, genome methylation landscapes and ionomic signatures, some of which attempt to tackle the influence of terroir, i.e. the synergic effect of (micro)climate, soil composition, grape genotype, and vineyard practices. A few reviews and opinions are included that focus on the advantages of applying network theory in grapevine research. Studies on vegetative organs in their relation to fruit development and on fruit-derived cell cultures are also considered.

Book Synopsis Mechanisms in Homogeneous Catalysis by : Brian Heaton
Download or read book Mechanisms in Homogeneous Catalysis written by Brian Heaton and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2006-03-06 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While chemists using spectroscopic methods need to learn from the specialists, they do not normally read the spectroscopists' original papers. This book provides this very information -- summarizing some recent advances in the mechanistic understanding of metallocene polymerization catalysts and the role of NMR spectroscopy in these endeavors. Adopting a real practice-oriented approach, the authors focus on two of the most important spectroscopic techniques with two parts devoted to each of NMR and IR spectroscopy - as well as on important industrial applications with regard to the reaction discussed. Rather than providing a complete and exhaustive review of homogeneous hydrogenation and its detailed mechanisms, the book focuses on the specific spectroscopic techniques and the mechanistic information that has been obtained from their application. The result is unique in its scope, allowing chemists from different fields to learn which techniques can be applied for their specific synthetic problems. The prizewinning editor, Professor Brian Heaton, is the key player in the field, and has brought together here a team of authors to cater for specialists, and researchers in industry and academia.
