Book excerpt: Lover of fairy tales Lola Nelsson learned at an early age that darker truths lay behind their bright facades. At twenty-two, she still hopes for her fairy tale to come true before she graduates college. But she hasn’t met her prince yet, and she doesn’t know how to navigate the real world. Then a handsome man at a conference catches her eye. She’s sure he’s out of her league but tries to get his attention anyway. And she’s successful… until she isn’t. Only one thing matters to Professor Vance Anderson—gaining tenure. Known as Dr. Casanova on campus, he’s a true love ‘em and leave ’em kind of guy. For now, though, he’s sworn off the distraction of women. When he spots a beauty of a different sort at a conference, he can’t stop thinking about her. But when she accepts his invitation to his room, his insecurities kick in. Everything goes well… until it doesn’t. The night ends disastrously, and it’s all over. Until Lola and Vance wind up in a working relationship, making it impossible to avoid one another. The situation can only end in one of two ways. They’ll either end up madly in love or they’ll want to kill each other. Before they can discover their real feelings, they need to learn to trust themselves. Only time will tell if their fairy tale is sweet or dark.

Book excerpt: This book contains the collected memories of Lola Rozsa - of her life and service to her family, her church, and her community as she and her husband, Ted, made their way from the tiny towns of the Depression-era, dust bowl southern plains to the burgeoning oil fields of Alberta in 1949. As Ted struggled to build his first seismic company, Lola raised their children in Calgary, an environment far different from the home in Texas she desperately missed. However, the values taught her by her preacher father stood her in good stead as she immersed herself in service for her new community. For the next sixty years, as Ted prospered, they made Calgary their home and, along with other industry pioneers, helped to build many of the enduring cultural institutions in Calgary.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Age no longer mattered as I watched and waited while my husband disappeared into the desert of dementia. I had to keep living while this happened and the realities set in. Do you think you know your family and friends? This is when you really find out. There are legalities to be considered, and what you thought was within your vows suddenly become non-existent. Blended families are an added burden to the legalities. If I looked at people as separate persons before, I really do now. Do we know how much of the responsibility for ourselves is unconsciously handed over to our marital partner? We find out when someone we love falls into the abyss of dementia and we have no way of helping. Dementia does not mean you die a slow death with them. It means gritting your teeth and moving forward in whichever direction is healthiest for you. This is about the gauntlet that no one is prepared to run. Your spouse may not know you anymore, but you certainly find out who you are! Caregiving has suddenly taken on a whole new meaning, and it needs to be defined more appropriately for the caregiving survivors. Society needs programs to address the mental and physical health of caregivers, whoever they are. I have considered many times not publishing this book, but it is as honest as I can be.
