Book Synopsis Rock Trails Lakeland by : Paul Gannon
Download or read book Rock Trails Lakeland written by Paul Gannon and published by Pesda Press. This book was released on 2009-04 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explains to the hillwalker, in easy to understand but accurate terms, how geology has shaped the landscape of the Cumbrian Lakeland. A selection of fifteen guided walks are used to illustrate this in terms of what can be seen on the ground. Divided into two parts, Paul describes the view out over the fells and back through time, charting the formation of the Cumbrian Lake District. Factors such as undersea sedimentation, tectonic collisions which heaved up the land, great flows of lava and explosive eruptions which mixed and reformed old rock, catastrophic caldera collapses, freeze/thaw creation of rocky tors, the pointed tops of pikes carved by the flowing glaciers and the human influence of mining and tourism have all contributed to shape the landscape. The second half of the book describes fifteen walks ranging from easy to challenging, with revealing views of the geology.

Download or read book Defending Husserl written by Uwe Meixner and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2014-08-22 with total page 635 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The phenomenological approach to the philosophy of mind, as inaugurated by Brentano and worked out in a very sophisticated way by Husserl, has been severely criticized by philosophers within the Wittgensteinian tradition and, implicitly, by Wittgenstein himself. Their criticism is, in the epistemological regard, directed against introspectionism, and in the ontological regard, against an internalist and qualia-friendly, non-functionalist (or: broadly dualistic/idealistic) conception of the mind. The book examines this criticism in detail, looking at the writings of Wittgenstein, Ryle, Hacker, Dennett, and other authors, reconstructing their arguments, and pointing out where they fall short of their aim. In defending Husserl against his Wittgensteinian critics, the book also offers a comprehensive fresh view of phenomenology as a philosophy of mind. In particular, Husserl’s non-representationalist theory of intentionality is carefully described in its various aspects and elucidated also with respect to its development, taking into account writings from various periods of Husserl’s career. Last but not least, the book shows Wittgensteinianism to be one of the effective roots of the present-day hegemony of physicalism.

Book Synopsis Eco-Centred Therapy by : Bernie Neville
Download or read book Eco-Centred Therapy written by Bernie Neville and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-12-01 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Offering a much-needed update of Rogerian theory and practice, and based on insights from cultural studies and ecopsychology, this book breaks new ground by questioning the relevance of certain ways of thinking about counselling and psychotherapy not least in the current planetary emergency. In response to the growing need for therapists to address increasing anxieties about the climate crisis, Bernie Neville and Keith Tudor address the issue in terms that help therapists reflect on their practice. Based on the authors’ previous publications and incorporating new material, this book presents and explores ideas that have been largely neglected in person-centred literature. It re-visions person-centred psychology (PCP) from what has become predominantly its application to individuals to a broader perspective on and about life and the living world. Further, it takes a philosophical and cultural perspective to re-present and re-vision PCP as a 'we' psychology, an eco-psychology, and an eco-therapy. This book will be of interest to those working in the fields of person-centred therapy, ecopsychology, and ecotherapy as well as those involved in the education, training, and supervision of counsellors and psychotherapists.
Book Synopsis The Eastern Fells by : Alfred Wainwright
Download or read book The Eastern Fells written by Alfred Wainwright and published by Frances Lincoln. This book was released on 2018-01-04 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Eastern Fells include the greatest single concentrated mass of high ground in Lakeland: a tremendous barrier running north and south, high and steep all along its length, rising to above 3000 feet on Helvellyn – the most-often climbed mountain in the Lake District. Popular resorts such as Ambleside and Grasmere lie in this sector of the fells, as does the beautiful Patterdale valley (the best base, in Wainwright's view, for exploring the area). The Pictorial Guides by A. Wainwright, written half a century ago, have been treasured by generations of walkers. This edition of The Eastern Fells is freshly reproduced from Wainwright's original hand-drawn pages.
