Download or read book Tramp written by Marne Davis Kellogg and published by Doubleday. This book was released on 2012-02-08 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If Susan Isaacs had lived in the American West as an American WASP, she would have created Lilly Bennett. By turns sassy and tough, tender and vulnerable, Lilly, a no-longer-so-young Wyoming belle with degrees in criminology and toxicology, is a private investigator and the marshal of Bennett's Fort, a town owned literally lock, stock, and barrel by her cousin. Shod by Chanel, clad in designer suits, and wearing ladylike white gloves, Lilly is an unlikely but highly efficient detective--as she proves when confronted with solving the murder by poisoning of Cyrus Vaile, the incredibly rich, disgustingly lecherous old patron of the local repertory theater. It happens on the night of his birthday celebration, in full view of Lilly and most of his repertory "family," any one of whom might have a pretty good motive for wanting Cyrus dead. And with so much flamboyant emotion obscuring the facts like a theatrical fog, it isn't easy for Lilly to cut through the glycerin tears and get at the unvarnished truth. In Lilly, her eccentric extended family (who made their money in two black crops--oil and Angus cattle), and her dashing suitor Richard Jerome (an ex-Morgan banker turned opera impresario and professional team-roper), Marne Davis Kellogg has invented a fascinating cast of ongoing characters. In Tramp she has created a witty, twisty mystery that shows off each of their talents to perfection.

Whether you are a child or an adult this book has been written just for you. Teddy Bear is usually the one and only toy that Mum will trust with her baby, as he/or /she begins to learn how to place trust in what is usually her first soft toy. Such soft fur and a welcoming face is a joy to see giving young children confidence in the knowledge that when dad and mum turn out the lights at night their little one is not alone. Also Teddy plays a role when children have bee advised about their behaviour and they feel frustrated they can confide in Teddy. Teddy is on childrens level and even when one has to go shopping and leave at home their partner who may not be well it is a nice thing to place Teddy beside them on the sofa. This book has been written by Rosaleen who got behind the mind of Teddy and has related his concerns and joys, even older folk in hospices have a Teddy to bring comfort. All in all this book deserves a place in every school, nursery, library, and of course family homes.Teddy Bear promises one thing that is he will give you back all the love that you give him and more...By the way Rosaleen has just one question...What happened to your Teddy Bear?About the AuthorI have been in receipt of trauma counselling since 1999 on a daily basis, at times speaking till the early hours of the morning.Support from my trauma Counsellor helps me to come to terms with accepting that what has happened to me cannot now be changed. I cannot ever forgive those who had a vicarious liability to look after me and failed. As a result of being locked away for some years all because we were poor has brought certain limitations to my day to day life. Writing is a form of therapy and allows me to be free to be the person that I want to be, and should have been my birthright. Through writing I can reach out to others who may have had such an unfortunate experience as myself . Daily flashbacks can be upsetting and I fill my life with things to do so as to block them out. Day to day life can be exhausting and coping mechanisms that I learnt in order to survive have not helped me in the outside world. God help all fellow survivors and perhaps one day Ireland will accept the terrible price we paid. Shame on all you right thinking residents in Ireland to allow the government and Catholic Church to ignore harm done to me and many others who are either dead or too ill to tell their story. Thanks to Chipmunkapublishing I have been able to confront my demons and a Big Thank you to Reatha my trauma counsellor without her I would not be here today writing about my stolen life.

Book Synopsis The Uncollected Cases of Sherlock Holmes by : Geoff Finch
Download or read book The Uncollected Cases of Sherlock Holmes written by Geoff Finch and published by Andrews UK Limited. This book was released on 2022-05-06 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Uncollected Cases of Sherlock Holmes presents eight new stories about Holmes which set the great detective against the background of Victorian England, an era of enormous progress, in science, transport, and medicine but which also witnessed a surge in urban poverty, prostitution and imperial adventurism. Each of the stories in this collection engages with an aspect of this background. In ‘The Sicilian Defence’, Holmes comes to the aid of a disgraced army veteran who has fallen in love with a Sudanese woman and incurred the wrath of her father, whilst in ‘The Archaeopterx’ Holmes has to recover an important fossil which has been stolen from the Natural History Museum. In ‘The Missing Heir’ Holmes is asked to find the heir to a great fortune, considered by his family to be mentally unstable, and in ‘The Dunwich Ghost’ he investigates the plight of an old army colleague of Watson’s who is haunted by the ghost of his dead wife. The Holmes who emerges from these stories justifies the description of him by Watson as the ‘best and wisest of men.’ Whether investigating a gang of forgers, securing justice for a murdered prostitute or facing a Russian spy we see his ferocious intelligence alongside a strong humanitarian bias. Despite his idiosyncracies, his solitary temperament, his melancholia and addiction to cocaine, he is both a man of his time and a man for our time. The author of this volume is Geoffrey Finch, an Associate Lecturer in English Language at the Open University. Geoffrey has taught at Universities in Africa, New Zealand and the UK. He lives in Greater London with his wife and their cat, Humphrey, who makes a guest appearance in the fifth story, ‘The Cathedral Cat’.

The vacation is also a sort of last hurrah, coming during the ceasefire in a series of escalating world conflicts. One night in Paris, they meet a strange man in a bar who offers them a private tour of the Louvre. The women find themselves alone in the museum, where nothing is quite as it seems.
