About the Author Esme Carpenter started writing at the age of twelve and since then has never looked back. Despite completing a five-book series by fifteen, she couldn't stop, resulting in a backlog of fantasy and science-fiction novels decaying on her harddrive, awaiting liberation (and possibly a good edit). An avid reader all her life, Esme always enjoyed stories. Her love of both writing and reading led her to the University of East Anglia to study English Literature and Creative Writing; she graduated summer 2011. Esme enjoys, amongst other things, comic books, video games and music, the latter of which gives her the best inspiration and is often used to drive her stories. At present she is writing a graphic novel. Against the Elements is her debut novel, written when she was fifteen and edited at the tender age of twenty-one. Esme lives in York, England, with a ridiculous amount of nerdy memorabilia.
Book Synopsis The Rawlinson Family Story by : B. J. Newing
Download or read book The Rawlinson Family Story written by B. J. Newing and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kingdom is one of the largest plantations in the southern states and Camberley has become one of the most important estates in the whole area. Hector and Anne were married in 1823. The coloured employee servants of the estate referred to her as Lady Anna. The union between the two of them produced four sons, Charles, Joseph, Jim and John. To complete the family tree, Hector was also to sire a bastard son called Dean. Hector was constantly trying to improve and change the present way of living in this young nation. He was against race and coloured bar, always trying to bring people closer together. It was very difficult, as he had to overcome the bitterness as a result of the wars of American Independence from 1775 to 1783 and then deal with the Civil War of 1861. He was totally against the fact that, in a number of cases, a family of father and son or brother versus brother took up arms against each other during this warring period. Even when the Union Army and the Confederate Army were each side of Kingdom, he would not be drawn into the war. Long before this period in time, Hector and Ann had many very difficult and unpleasant problems to overcome which will unfold in this volume of Kingdom and Foundation.

Book Synopsis Jean-Claude Charles: A Reader’s Guide by : Martin Munro
Download or read book Jean-Claude Charles: A Reader’s Guide written by Martin Munro and published by Liverpool University Press. This book was released on 2022-04-15 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite being a major figure of Haitian literature, Jean-Claude Charles (1949-2008) has received relatively little scholarly attention to date. The present volume seeks to serve as an introduction to the work and universe of this unique and capital writer to an English-language readership. The essays in the collection are organized along three major axes: contextual articles, placing Charles’ work within the larger Haitian literary landscape, punctual articles, addressing specific themes in a selection of Charles’ books, and author testimonials, attesting to Charles’ work’s importance both to his contemporaries and to a new generation of writers. With the ongoing republication of Charles’ work by Mémoire d’encrier in Montreal, and the increasing interest in the author, the proposed volume is timely and necessary, and is in large part a critical accompaniment to the republishing programme. Described by Dany Laferrière as “most brilliant Haitian author of his generation,” Charles has until recently remained largely unread and little understood. As the various chapters in the volume show, Charles is an author for now, and the collection will accompany readers seeking strikingly original insights on issues such as race, migration, and exile, and the role of the author and literature in times of crisis.
