Book Synopsis Heavy Quarkonium Hadroproduction in the Color Evaporation Model by : Christopher P. Smith
Download or read book Heavy Quarkonium Hadroproduction in the Color Evaporation Model written by Christopher P. Smith and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary goal of this thesis is to test the predictions of the Color Evaporation Model against the available hadroproduction data on the bottomonium system. As a secondary effort, it also applies each test to the model's predictions for the charmonium system in order to confirm and extend previous results and to identify any differences between the two heavy quarkonium systems. The analysis leads to three significant results. First, although it shows that the model can account for most of the available hadroproduction data, it identifies two potentially important behaviors in the charmonium system that the model fails to explain. Second, it refutes two significant assumptions made in some previous formulations of the model. Finally, it introduces a potentially useful technique to estimate the numerical values of the model's non-perturbative factors for states on which experimental data is not available.

Download or read book Quarkonia written by W. Buchmüller and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The discovery of the two families of heavy-quark-antiquark bound states, the &Ugr; and &PSgr; quarkonium spectroscopies, has played a crucial role in unravelling the nature of strong interactions. The articles collected together in this volume are concerned with the connection between quarkonia and quantum chromodynamics. They deal with potential models, spin-dependent forces, next-to-leading order QCD corrections for decay widths and energy level differences, hadronic transitions and the quark-antiquark interaction in QCD, based on perturbation theory, lattice gauge theory and QCD sum rules. Finally, a brief guide is given to the existing literature on possible new quarkonium systems which have been conjectured in connection with gluonic degrees of freedom, and with expectations for new heavy particles with colour, such as the top quark and scalar quarks.
Book Synopsis Quark-Gluon Plasma by : Kohsuke Yagi
Download or read book Quark-Gluon Plasma written by Kohsuke Yagi and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2005-12-15 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quark-Gluon Plasma introduces the primordial matter, composed of two types of elementary particles, created at the time of the Big Bang. During the evolution of the universe, Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) undergoes a transition to hadronic matter governed by quantum chromodynamics, the law of strong interactions. After an introduction to gauge theories, various aspects of quantum chromodynamic phase transitions are illustrated in a self-contained manner. The cosmological approach and renormalization group are discussed, as well as the cosmological and astrophysical implications of QGP, on the basis of Einstein's equations. Recent developments towards the formation of QGP in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions are also presented in detail. This text is suitable as an introduction for graduate students, as well as providing a valuable reference for researchers already working in this and related fields. It includes eight appendices and over a hundred exercises.

Book Synopsis Quark Confinement And The Hadron Spectrum Iv by : Wolfgang Lucha
Download or read book Quark Confinement And The Hadron Spectrum Iv written by Wolfgang Lucha and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2002-02-27 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quantum chromodynamics is generally accepted to be the quantum field theory which describes the strong interactions in elementary particle physics. However, the question of the mechanism responsible for the “confinement” of the color degrees of freedom of quarks and gluons into hadrons still ranks as one of the most interesting open problems in physics. This proceedings volume summarizes the state of the art in this area of research. Mathematically inclined readers will find the articles based on monopoles, vortices, and topology most interesting. Meanwhile, lattice calculations can be performed for many important physical quantities. Their results can be used as guidelines for developing models of quark confinement. These models are indispensable for theoretical physicists performing calculations with the Bethe-Salpeter equation, Dyson-Schwinger equations, effective Hamiltonians, and potential models. The cross-fertilization of all these subfields of research becomes evident from the articles in this book. A few experimental papers are also included.

Book Synopsis Extended Objects And Bound Systems: From Relativistic Description To Phenomenological Application - Proceedings Of The International Symposium by : S Naka
Download or read book Extended Objects And Bound Systems: From Relativistic Description To Phenomenological Application - Proceedings Of The International Symposium written by S Naka and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1993-02-08 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Counterfeiting, which has emerged as a recent global phenomenon, has arisen due to economic liberalisation, the changing nature of society and new competitive structures. Branding has become an increasingly important area of research in marketing as well as a crucial decision-making area in strategic marketing management. Counterfeit-related activities challenge the existing theoretical and methodological framework in many ways, particularly consumer behavior and branding. This book brings together the three areas — counterfeiting, branding and consumer behaviour — within a very robust methodological and statistical modelling framework.
Book Synopsis Quark Confinement and the Hadron Spectrum III by : Nathan Isgur
Download or read book Quark Confinement and the Hadron Spectrum III written by Nathan Isgur and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2000 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The confinement mechanism of the quarks in QCD is one of the most challenging and open problems in physics. Confinement is a nonperturbative phenomenon, and a definite way to handle it has not yet been found in field theory. There are lattice calculations that can produce the low-lying states of the spectrum and ?measure? many important physical quantities, but nevertheless the development of analytical techniques is of extreme importance for understanding the physics involved in confinement. In this respect it is important to test the results obtained directly from the theory (Bethe-Salpeter kernel, effective Hamiltonians, quark potential, etc.) on the spectrum, form factors and decays of bound states of quarks and gluons, and to relate them to the results of lattice theory. In this book, the question of the confinement mechanism is addressed; explanations in terms of monopoles, instantons and dyons are reviewed and the connection with duality is discussed.
