Book Synopsis Living Longer and Healthier at Older Ages by : Li Zhang
Download or read book Living Longer and Healthier at Older Ages written by Li Zhang and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2024 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyzes data from eight waves (1998, 2000, 2002, 2005, 2008, 2011-12, 2014 and 2018) of the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Surveys (CLHLS) to explore how health status of the Chinese oldest old has changed over time and across birth cohorts. It also intends to investigate how period and birth cohorts have played a role in the associations between Chinese oldest olds health and a variety of demographic, socioeconomic, and lifestyle factors. The book applies the age-period-cohort (APC) approach and constructs cross-classified random-effects models (CCREMs) to carry out the analyses. The oldest olds health is measured by self-rated health (SRH), chronic diseases, cognitive function and subjective wellbeing which is indicated by positive and negative feeling scores. The results show that Chinese oldest olds health status has changed over time and across birth cohorts. Significant period and cohort effects are shown when linking Chinese oldest olds health to various demographic, socioeconomic and health lifestyle covariates. In general, period effects surpass the cohort effects. Particularly, the oldest olds subjective wellbeing is more likely to be influenced by period than cohort effects. Period changes caused by social events, such as economic hardship and natural disasters, have left strong imprints on Chinese oldest olds mental than physical health status. Based on these findings, the book highlights some important policy implications and points out future research directions to improve the current study. It provides an interesting read for researchers in gerontology and public health studies. It is also of interest to general audience, including practitioners in health care and policy makers who are interested in old age care and healthy aging policies.

Book Synopsis Natural Health - Peak Performance - Longevity Lifestyle by : Ralph Teller
Download or read book Natural Health - Peak Performance - Longevity Lifestyle written by Ralph Teller and published by 1Vigor. This book was released on 2010-11-17 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about how to naturally achieve optimum health, how to live a high quality and long life, and if an athlete, how to achieve peak performance. The book has a focus on athletic performance because the road to athletic excellence and physical, mental and emotional peak performance is very similar to the path of optimal health and longevity. The lifestyle that leads to a longer, better quality life is the same lifestyle athletes need to follow to reach their ambitions. There is an art to living. Plato used the expression techne tou biou which means 'the craft of life' which refers to the art of crafting and shaping life. It's an art that has been somewhat lost by our modern culture. Modern culture's lifestyle is contributing to high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, obesity, depression, lack of regular good sleep, chronic fatigue, etc. which underlie many of modern life's sickness and diseases. This book, in part, hopes to impart an appreciation of the need to get back to the basics - the need to live a natural life. The book covers the key ingredients to a long quality life, which include natural nutrition, exercise, strong nerve force and brain power all within a simple lifestyle. I also hope to provide athletes with a larger picture of how they can naturally achieve their athletic goals and mesh those goals with the longer term goals of longevity. As maintaining a regular vigorous exercise routine helps us maintain a high and efficient metabolism, to encourage you to engage in the aerobic sports, I provide safety tips and tips on ideal technique for hiking, running, swimming, and cycling. A key premise of this book is living naturally as the best way to achieve optimum health, longevity and peak performance. As such, I provide natural tips on (i) the benefits of natural nutrition and portion control, (ii) the benefits of obtaining sufficient Vitamin D levels from the sun, (iii) how to obtain natural regular good sleep, (iv) how to naturally beat depression, and (v) how to naturally quit smoking cigarettes. As maintaining high testosterone levels is important to men's health and vitality, we recommend natural ways to increase testosterone levels. The book also recommends natural ways to increase the production of the growth hormones essential to growth and healing. Since women have unique health considerations, the book provides insight into the the role of Calcium and Iron in women's health and provides natural food sources of obtaining both nutrients. For athletes I recommend natural ways to maintain kidney health, as the kidneys play a key role in the production of red blood cells, essential to oxygen delivery to our cells for peak athletic performance. Maintaining healthy kidneys is also important to everyone in fighting fatigue. There is a list of natural food sources that provide the key nutrients needed to produce red blood cells. As maintaining strong nerves and efficient management of our metabolism is essential to optimal health and life quality, I provide natural solutions to building strong nerve force through proper breathing rhythm and lowering of our resting heart rate. Recognizing the importance of the mental and emotional aspects of peak performance and the Ideal Performance State necessary for reaching optimum athletic and other potentials, we provide insight into the Ideal Performance State. There is a section on mental toughness and a section on how mental imagery skills can be developed to give each of us an edge in our challenges. Keeping our minds sharp and brains healthy is essential to our life quality and longevity. I provide natural tips and insight into (i) creativity skills, (ii) clear thinking skills, (iii) the importance of heightened sense and expanded awareness, and (iv) self-actualization skills. Lifestyle plays a key role in our life quality and lifespan. The book suggests a more simple lifestyle as a way to care for our soul.
Download or read book Healthy Aging written by Andrew Weil and published by Rodale. This book was released on 2005-10-18 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spontaneous Healing . . . Eight Weeks to Optimum Health . . . Eating Well for Optimum Health . . . The Healthy Kitchen–in each of his widely acclaimed, best-selling books, Dr. Andrew Weil has been an authoritative and companionable guide through a uniquely effective combination of traditional and nontraditional approaches to health and healthy living. Now he gives us a book about aging that is unlike any other in the breadth and depth of its information and understanding. Hugely informative, practical, and uplifting, it is infused with the engaging candor and common sense that have been the hallmarks of all his books. At the heart of Healthy Aging is Dr. Weil’s belief that although aging is an irreversible process, there are myriad things we can do to keep our minds and bodies in good working order through all phases of life. To that end, he draws on the new science of biogerentology (the biology of aging) as well as on the secrets of healthy longevity– diet, activity, and attitude–that he has gathered firsthand from cultures around the world. In Part One–“The Science and Philosophy of Healthy Aging”–he explains how the body ages, and he explores the impact of gender, genes, environment, and lifestyle on an individual’s experience and perception of the process of aging. He describes the various would-be elixirs of life extension–herbs, hormones, and antiaging “medicines”–separating myth from fact and clearly delineating the difference between the spurious notions of preventing or reversing the process of aging and the real possibilities of inhibiting or delaying the onset of diseases that become more likely as we age. He writes movingly about the ways in which an acceptance of aging can be a significant part of doing it well, and of recognizing and appreciating the great rewards of growing older: depth and richness of experience, complexity of being, serenity, wisdom, and its own kind of power and grace. In Part Two–“How to Age Gracefully”–Weil details an easy-to-implement Anti-inflammatory Diet that will protect the immune system and aid your body in resisting and adapting to the changes that time brings. And he provides extensive practical advice on exercise; preventive health care; stress management; physical, mental, and emotional flexibility; and spiritual enhancement–all of which can help you achieve and maintain the best health throughout the lifelong process of aging. Healthy Aging–a book for people of all ages–is Andrew Weil’s most important and far-reaching book yet. From the Hardcover edition.

Book Synopsis The Structure of Healthy Life Determinants by : Tanji Hoshi
Download or read book The Structure of Healthy Life Determinants written by Tanji Hoshi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-08 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first one to examine the cause and effect of elderly people’s healthy life expectancy, providing models that are easy to understand. The novel point is the success achieved in constructing a single structural model of cause and effect of healthy life expectancy. In the final models of the authors’ studies, it was possible to clearly point out that it is not the case that lifestyle habits including an ideal diet directly provide for healthy life expectancy. This book is made up of published studies based on scientific evidence, using a vast amount of data based on about 8,000 in-home elderly people tracked longitudinally from 3 to 6 years, three times in all including baseline research, in a specific region of Japan. Therefore, health policy makers will be able to use this book as scientific evidence for creating area programs to promote good health that are focused on healthy longevity as the central issue. Academic researchers whose special fields are mainly public health will be able to learn both theory and practice to structurally analyze cause and effect of health factors.
