This initiative joins others that, for some time now, have been trying to rescue from oblivion the information and knowledge that shamans developed over thousands of years. The healing of soul splits is the part of the ancestral knowledge of shamanism this book focuses on. This third edition includes the remote healing technique, used for the first time during the Coronavirus pandemic; this technique has yielded promising results in healing people's souls.

Book excerpt: The links between madness, creative genius, and spiritual experiences have tantalized philosophers and scientists for centuries. In Healing the Split, John Nelson brings the lofty ideas of transpersonal psychology down to earth so they can be applied in a practical way to explain the bizarre effects of insanity on the human mind. Drawing on a vast knowledge of Eastern philosophy and mainstream neuropsychiatry, he heals the split between orthodox and alternative views with a comprehensive approach that goes beyond both. Starting where R. D. Laing and Thomas Szasz left off, Nelson revises and expands their radical views in light of modern brain science. He then turns to ancient tantric yoga for a synthesis that weaves brain, psyche, and spirit into a compelling new conception of mental illness. For professionals who seek to meet the needs of their patients more creatively, this book offers a unique synthesis. For people in emotional crisis, it clarifies the distinctions among intractable psychosis, temporary breakdowns in the service of healing (spiritual emergencies), and psychic breakthroughs (spiritual emergence). And for anyone interested in the seemingly inexplicable workings of the human mind gone mad, this fascinating exploration of psychotic states of consciousness will be exciting reading.

Book excerpt: “I have to ask again, Lorrie. What are you thinking? Why would you tell on yourself and members of your family and family lines to the whole world?” Answer: “Because the Holy Spirit asked me to so others can learn that healing for oneself, members of one’s family, and one’s family lines is possible.” The Holy Spirit prompted questions for me to ask that gradually uncovered issues needing forgiveness, clearing, and healing in myself and my Soul line, and in our family and family lines, along with the roots of those issues and how to deal with them. They included centuries-old curses, hypnotic implants, and infestation by negative (dark) energies. I pray that my story will help many other people, families, and family lines be cleared and healed.

Book excerpt: Integrating Western psychological understanding with ancient Eastern and wisdom traditions, Siegel addresses how spiritual resonance is achieved within the psychotherapeutic process in The Sacred Path of the Therapist. Readers will learn how mindfulness practices and attunement can help them move clients toward recovery and beyond, allowing full potential to emerge within a shared coherent field of awakening consciousness. Topics include translating transpersonal theory into practice, understanding the human energy field, and the integration of psychotherapy and spiritual initiation. Drawing from her unique experiences working with master shamans as well as practicing as a psychotherapist, Irene Siegel discusses the evolving role of the therapist as both therapist and healer. Shamans are ancestral teachers, guides to nonordinary realms of consciousness and a divine cosmic whole within silent sacred spaces. Using lessons from native shamanic tradition and the evolving field of transpersonal psychology, both healer and client will learn to access the innate inner wisdom and healing potential within themselves through guided meditation exercises within moment-by-moment sacred space. The expanding content and context of therapy blends the two worlds: the clinical world and the world of the shaman.

Pictorial models will guide the reader into the multi-layered landscape of the soul and its principles. Along the way, the book decodes traumas as the soul’s fundamental building blocks and follows them back to their origins: existential limit-experiences and their common denominator, the splitting of the soul. The consequences of this autonomous survival mechanism affect all areas of life, starting from the unconscious. Therefore, they are not accessible by conventional methods working with the conscious mind. The presented integrative approach provides means and ways that significantly expand the potential of coaching.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Healing the Split consists of the collected essays of poet, literary critic and philosopher Marc Elihu Hofstadter. The essays stretch from Hofstadter's early scholarly articles about poets William Carlos Williams and Yves Bonnefoy through articles published in the Redwood Coast Review about poetry, art, music, science, politics and France to recent articles concerning the "split" between the sciences and the humanities, reason and feeling/intuition/faith. The book embodies Hofstadter's consistent belief in the idea that all human activities are composed of an "objective" element and a "subjective" element. Human knowledge, whether scientific, mathematical, philosophical or artistic, contains a degree of objective certainty mixed with a component of subjective feeling. The differences between science and the humanities are differences of degree of objectivity, not of essence, and the knowledge the humanities display is a genuine form of knowledge, less certain than science but rich in tangible, felt experience. Even early in his career as a literary critic, Hofstadter was interested in how such otherwise diverse poets as Williams and Bonnefoy sacralize the coming together of mind and world in all forms of human experience. As Williams put it, "No ideas but in things "-by which he meant, not, Let there not be any ideas but, Let all ideas be inextricably entwined with the physical world Hofstadter argues that, in all our activities, there is a mixture of the thinking, reasoning mind and the parts of us that feel, perceive, touch-our bodies, our hearts. Science and philosophy are the great achievements of the mind, while art and religion are the most powerful consummations of sensing and feeling-yet science and philosophy are partly emotive, and art and theology partly rational. The difference, again, is in degree. Healing the Split is an attempt to bring reason and feeling/intuition/faith together, to show how they are intimately related. The Buddhist faith is key to this effort, because Buddhism doesn't analyze out reason and non-rational knowledge as separate faculties but tries to unite them in a direct, embodied kind of experience that "heals the split" between them and makes the individual human being whole. In Buddhism, everything we know is known through consciousness, and distinctions between subject and object, mind and world, logic and faith become artificial, since consciousness is essentially unitary. And Buddhism sees all phenomena, known through consciousness, as being related in a universal "web" everything is connected ultimately to everything else, and the world is essentially One. Healing the Split is finally a work of mysticism in the line of Parmenides, who believed that everything is one, or the Kabbalists, who worshipped the All in the form of "Ha Shem" the unnamable "Name." Marc Elihu Hofstadter was born in New York City in 1945. He received his B.A. in French literature from Swarthmore College in 1967 and his Ph.D. in Literature from the University of California at Santa Cruz in 1975. He has taught American literature at Santa Cruz, the Universite d'Orleans (on a Fulbright Lectureship) and Tel Aviv University. In 1980 he obtained his Master of Library Science degree from the University of California at Berkeley, and from 1982 to 2005 served as the Librarian of the City of San Francisco's transit agency. He has published five volumes of poetry: House of Peace, Visions, Shark's Tooth, Luck and Rising at 5 AM, all of which are available on amazon.com, and his poems, translations and essays have appeared in over sixty magazines. He lives in the retirement community of Rossmoor in Walnut Creek, California with his partner, the artist David Zurlin.

Blazer, M.D., Ph.D. Professor of Psychiatry, Duke University Medical Center "Occasionally, a writer on psychology and biblical faith comes along who can work 'from the center.' J. Christopher Garrison is such a writer. Let me explain what I mean by working from the center. No person who is thoroughly committed to his or her religious faith can really put that faith aside and work with scientific objectivity in blending the essence of that faith with the subject matter of empirical science. Even if someone could, I doubt that the project would be of great interest. Such a person would not be someone I would define as working from the center. A person who can work from the center in blending psychology and biblical faith is a person who can work not so much from the center of extremes as from the center of their being-from their spirit if you will. This ability shows itself when one has opened his or her innermost being to the Spirit of God and his or her mind and reason to modern psychology and truly grasped as a result the principles and concepts of what psychology is really about. This is what Garrison has achieved. In Garrison's Psychology of the Spirit, psychology is not so much integrated as it is enriched. Reading the end product deepens one's faith and one's understanding. Such a psychology is not the mere providing of formulas for meeting daily life crises. It is instead the total unfolding and renewal of one's inner being."
