Armstrong. He is an old doctor of medicine, retired from the practice of his profession, in which he stands very high. A convert to the Catholic Church since his early manhood, he loves her with the ardent zeal of a convert, but much more with the arm and settled conviction of one who has studied her doctrines long and profoundly, and has compared them with the results of modern science, in which he is a very great adept. The next in rank is George N., a young physician himself, and a son of one of the most intimate friends of the old doctor. He is a frequent visitor at the latter's house, drawn there not only by the evident advantages and improvement he derives from the doctor's conversation, but also by the attractions of the third personage of our dialogue, Adele M. She is a niece and a ward of the doctor - the very apple of his eye. She is well educated, of a serious turn of mind, which does not interfere with the liveliness and cheerfulness of her disposition. The three personages are sitting cosily around the table after tea. Doctor. - "You may go on, George, with the subject. Adele will he pleased with the matter of our conversation." George. - "Well, Miss Adele, the Doctor and I were discussing before tea the great topic of the relations between religion and science. I need not remind you that the professors of the latter, as a general thing, claim that the results of their science are in direct contradiction, in hopeless conflict with the tenets of revelation; that some day or other Christianity, the best and greatest exponent of revelation, will have to submit to the inevitable, and retire, either gracefully or by force, to make way for the great truths of science. Book excerpt: One Reality: The Harmony of Science and Religion is a compilation of passages from the Bahai writings that explores the relationship between science and religion, and demonstrates the Bahai perspective that the two seemingly opposing forces can live in perfect harmony. As Abdul-Baha, the son of the Prophet and Founder of the Bahai Faith, states: If we say religion is opposed to science, we lack knowledge of either true science or true religion, for both are founded upon the premises and conclusions of reason, and both must bear its test. Meticulously researched and compiled by Bonnie J. Taylor, One Reality offers a comprehensive overview of the subject from a Bahaiperspective, and includes a thought-provoking and challenging introduction from John S. Hatcher, a highly respected academic and the author of numerous books about Bahai scripture and theology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over two dozen Christian leaders describe how they changed their minds about evolution Perhaps no topic appears as potentially threatening to evangelicals as evolution. The very idea seems to exclude God from the creation the book of Genesis celebrates. Yet many evangelicals have come to accept the conclusions of science while still holding to a vigorous belief in God and the Bible. How did they make this journey? How did they come to embrace both evolution and faith? Here are stories from a community of people who love Jesus and honor the authority of the Bible, but who also agree with what science says about the cosmos, our planet and the life that so abundantly fills it. Among the contributors are Scientists such as: Francis Collins Deborah Haarsma Denis Lamoureux Theologians and philosophers such as: James K. A. Smith Amos Yong Oliver Crisp Biblical scholars such as: N. T. Wright Scot McKnight Tremper Longman III Pastors such as: John Ortberg Ken Fong Laura Truax

Download or read book Revelation Through Science written by James G. Martin and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2016-11-09 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Revelation through Science is written for the educated non-scientist who may be troubled by apparent conflicts between science and religion. Are science and faith incompatible? Astronomers, physicists, and biologists have now shown that the more deeply science probes nature, the more it reveals evidence pointing us to God. After reviewing concepts from those fields, Revelation through Science adds new material from chemistry. It describes organic structures that are profoundly vital for life, yet too complex for self-assembly without some guiding principle. It should lift the burden from believers and seekers to realize that science is not the enemy of faith.
Book Synopsis The Language of God by : Francis Collins
Download or read book The Language of God written by Francis Collins and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2008-09-04 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr Francis S. Collins, head of the Human Genome Project, is one of the world's leading scientists, working at the cutting edge of the study of DNA, the code of life. Yet he is also a man of unshakable faith in God. How does he reconcile the seemingly unreconcilable? In THE LANGUAGE OF GOD he explains his own journey from atheism to faith, and then takes the reader on a stunning tour of modern science to show that physics, chemistry and biology -- indeed, reason itself -- are not incompatible with belief. His book is essential reading for anyone who wonders about the deepest questions of all: why are we here? How did we get here? And what does life mean?

Download or read book Contradict written by Andy Wrasman and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2014 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tolerance and co-existence are both great! In fact, they are necessary. If we are to live together in peace without hating each other, or physically harming each other over differences in race, culture, sexual orientation, political views, and religious beliefs, we must have tolerance. However, we must also recognize that every belief can't be equally valid. If two beliefs directly contradict each other, both of them cannot be true, no matter how "tolerant" we become. This means it is false to say that every religion is true, or that every religion leads to God. When people make such claims they show that they have not taken the time to study the world's religions, because a brief reading of the sacred texts of only a handful of religions quickly reveals contradictions on the most fundamental levels. Religious Contradictions Reincarnation (Hinduism and Buddhism) contradicts the belief that this is your only life before eternity (Christianity, Judaism, and Islam). Salvation from sin (Christianity) contradicts the belief that there is no sin to be saved from but simply pain that can be escaped through enlightenment (Buddhism). Jesus Christ is the incarnate, Son of God (Christianity), contradicts the teaching that he is just a prophet (Islam) or that he was a false prophet (Judaism). In light of these contradictions alone, all religions can't be true. They could all be false, but they can't all be true. Are any of them true? This is the most important question anyone can ask. Recognize religious contradictions. Embrace them. Test them. Seek the truth. www.contradictmovement.org
