Book Synopsis Stay Healthy, Be Happy, Live Longer, in Whatever Way Suits You Best. by : Brian Lindsay
Download or read book Stay Healthy, Be Happy, Live Longer, in Whatever Way Suits You Best. written by Brian Lindsay and published by Brian Lindsay. This book was released on 2010 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Stay Healthy, Be Happy, Live Longer' addresses the reality that tens of millions of ordinary people are allowing heart disease, and other related conditions such as obesity, diabetes and blood pressure, to creep up on them and impact their lives detrimentally. Not because they don't know how to keep them at bay -we all know that already-, but because they cannot sustain the rigorous day-to-day lifestyle changes recommended by the medical profession and indeed, with the best of intentions, by most of the other books on the subject. It faces squarely the reality that old habits can be deep-rooted and new lifestyle changes difficult to make permanent. Uniquely it gently motivates the reader to make whatever degree of change they are able to habitualize. It provides the readers with a clear understanding of the benefits to be gained from making the changes, and a practical methodology of change that can ebb and flow in harmony with the readers' own natural tendencies and preferences.

Book Synopsis What Shamu Taught Me About Life, Love, and Marriage by : Amy Sutherland
Download or read book What Shamu Taught Me About Life, Love, and Marriage written by Amy Sutherland and published by Random House. This book was released on 2008-02-12 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While observing exotic animal trainers for her acclaimed book Kicked, Bitten, and Scratched, journalist Amy Sutherland had an epiphany: What if she used these training techniques with the human animals in her own life–namely her dear husband, Scott? In this lively and perceptive book, Sutherland tells how she took the trainers’ lessons home. The next time her forgetful husband stomped through the house in search of his mislaid car keys, she asked herself, “What would a dolphin trainer do?” The answer was: nothing. Trainers reward the behavior they want and, just as important, ignore the behavior they don’t. Rather than appease her mate’s rising temper by joining in the search, or fuel his temper by nagging him to keep better track of his things in the first place, Sutherland kept her mouth shut and her eyes on the dishes she was washing. In short order, Scott found his keys and regained his cool. “I felt like I should throw him a mackerel,” she writes. In time, as she put more training principles into action, she noticed that she became more optimistic and less judgmental, and their twelve-year marriage was better than ever. What started as a goofy experiment had such good results that Sutherland began using the training techniques with all the people in her life, including her mother, her friends, her students, even the clerk at the post office. In the end, the biggest lesson she learned is that the only animal you can truly change is yourself. Full of fun facts, fascinating insights, hilarious anecdotes, and practical tips, What Shamu Taught Me About Life, Love, and Marriage describes Sutherland’s Alice-in-Wonderland experience of stumbling into a world where cheetahs walk nicely on leashes and elephants paint with watercolors, and of leaving a new, improved Homo sapiens.

Book Synopsis Sunset over Happy Farm by : Mark Thomas McDonough
Download or read book Sunset over Happy Farm written by Mark Thomas McDonough and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2019-04-17 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On the surface, Derrick James is a mild mannered socially awkward attorney, who works a modest federal government job. While Derrick lacks any particular legal acumen or academic prowess, and possesses modest legal writing skills, everywhere he goes and whatever he does, Derrick inevitably and always makes his way to the top of the pyramid. Possessing an unflappable mental skill set and seldom suffering fools lightly, he accomplishes what needs to be done and he does it superbly well, much to the chagrin of his peers. In the twilight of his legal career, Derrick finds himself working in perhaps one of the most boring brain-numbing federal legal jobs one can possibly imagine, but it’s inside work – no heavy lifting – and the pay is pretty good too. Finally! Derrick relaxes satisfied with who he and where he is. Life reaches a comfortable working rhyme. Both daughters are in college. After many down years, he is finally setting aside some extra money for retirement. Life is good, that is, right up to the very moment that a group of jealous federal supervisors and co-workers ban together forcing him to accept a forced early retirement. Now having abundant free time, Derrick travels the world, begins a ‘get out of debt’ project and ponders how he got to ‘here’. In doing all of this, he constantly runs into the ghosts of his past most of which is rooted in his ill-fated youth spent growing up in a Catholic Orphanage, which he facetiously nicknames “The Happy Farm”. Within the realm of his forced retirement and even as life’s ghosts taunt him, Derrick finds that truth and hindsight are not necessarily friends, but with enough time and grit, he finds that, by accepting his past, he can finally accept his present, and in doing so he finally says good bye to all the enemies, all the friends and all the ghosts that haunt him, as the sun sets over The Happy Farm.

Download or read book Ringer written by Susan Beth Morris and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2016-06-24 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This the story of a beagle dog and his caring, loving friend and trainer. Ringer was an unwanted and ignored little puppy who was growing up with an unkind and abusive family until one day a lady took him away from that and brought him home to be with her family. It was difficult to get him to behave and respond to the kindness he was not used to, so the lady instructed her children to be very kind to him. She encouraged them to feed him so that he would trust her and her children. Over time this improved his acceptance of his new surroundings and he became responsive to everyones adoration. Eventually, the lady became interested in dog training believing that this would benefit both the lady and her dog. This later developed into a pastime that brought Ringer and his trainer to the world of Obedience training and competition. This story tells of that journey and of how the lady became aware of the methods of encouraging a discipline which allowed Ringer and herself to understand the commands and how she desired him to behave. The purpose of this story is about the ladies application of what she learned as it related to raising her children. How it calmed her children down allowing them to feel secure and loved even though they were being disciplined.
