This book was released on 2018-10-01 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this second volume you will find a further 29 illustrated children’s stories by the master story-teller - Hans Christian Andersen. This present volume is the second of the selected stories from Hans Andersen. Together both books include what, out of a larger number, are the cream of Andersen’s “crop”. "The Ice Maiden", “The Little Mermaid” and “The Emperor’s New Clothes” set the standards for folklorists, authors and story-tellers worldwide and have all since become children’s classics. "The Sandhills of Jutland", another volume by Andersen, was pronounced by John Ruskin to be “the most perfect story” that he knew. The tales in this volume are: The Flax The Daisy The Pea Blossom The Storks The Wild Swans The Last Dream Of The Old Oak The Portuguese Duck The Snow Man The Farmyard Cock And The Weathercock The Red Shoes The Little Mermaid Buckwheat What Happened To The Thistle The Pen And The Inkstand The Teapot Soup From A Sausage Skewer What The Goodman Does Is Always Right The Old Street Lamp The Shepherdess And The Chimney Sweep The Drop Of Water The Swineherd The Metal Pig The Flying Trunk The Butterfly The Goblin And The Huckster Everything In Its Right Place The Real Princess The Emperor's New Clothes Great Claus And Little Claus The power of his tales to charm and elevate runs like a living thread through whatever he writes. In the two books, the first of which is presented here, they have met the tests and held an undiminishing popularity among the best children's books. They have set the standard, and their place in permanent literature will grow wider and more secure as time passes. Only a few children's authors will be ranked among the Immortals, and Hans Andersen is without a doubt one of them. It adds a charm to the little stories of these two volumes to know that the genial author travelled widely for a man of his time and everywhere he went he was urged to tell the tales himself. Even though he had become world famous, he did with equal measures of charm and grace in the kitchens of the humble and in the courts of nobles and palaces of kings. As was said in the preface to the first volume, wherever there are children, the stories of Hans Christian Andersen will be read and loved for a long time yet. 10% of the profit from the sale of this book will be donated to charities by the Publisher. =============== TAGS: Hans Andersen Fairy Tales, folklore, myths, legends, children’s stories, bedtime, fables, read, school children, homes, love to read, story-teller, imagination, sweet, sad, Flax, Daisy, Pea Blossom, Storks, Wild Swans, Last Dream, Old Oak, Portuguese Duck, Snow Man, Farmyard Cock, Weathercock, Red Shoes, Little Mermaid, Buckwheat, Thistle, Pen, Inkstand, Teapot, Soup, Sausage Skewer, Goodman, Right, Old Street Lamp, Shepherdess, Chimney Sweep, Drop Of Water, Swineherd, Metal Pig, Flying Trunk, Butterfly, Goblin, Huckster, Everything, Right Place, Real, Princess, Emperor's New Clothes, Great Claus, Little Claus

Book excerpt: This volume was intended as a sequel to Andersen’s 1864 Stories and Tales (see end pages of this book) and was aimed at slightly older children. This book of fairy tales and stories deals with more complex moral questions, without sacrificing Andersen’s characteristic imaginative and fantasy elements. The series of sketches of varying lengths in this book arose from the Andersen’s experiences when as a youth he went to seek his fortune Copenhagen, in the capital of his native land; and the story entitled "Under the Willow Tree" is said likewise to have its foundation in fact. Containing 45 stories and tales, it is Illustrated with 80 woodcuts done by the brothers Dalziel, from illustrations by Alfred Water Bayes. Some of the stories in this volume are: * What the Moon Saw * The Story of the Year * The Goblin and the Huckster * In a Thousand Years * The Bond of Friendship * Jack the Dullard * Under the Willow Tree * The Beetle * A Leaf from the Sky * The Dumb Book; plus many, many more. So, we invite you to download this ebook, find a comfy chair and settle in to be entertained for hours. 10% of the profit from the sale of this book will be donated to charities. ---------------------------- KEYWORDS/TAGS: Folklore, fairy tales, myths, legends, folk tales, children’s stories, bedtime, fables, culture, cultural, What the Moon Saw, Story of the Year, Good for Nothing, Difference, Everything, Right Place, Goblin, Huckster, Thousand Years, Bond, Friendship, Jack the Dullard, Something, Under, Willow Tree, Beetle, Old Man, Always Right, Wind, Waldemar Daa, Daughters, Ib, Christine, Ole, Tower-Keeper, Bottle-Neck, Good Humour, leaf, Sky, Dumb, Book, Jewish Girl, Thorny Road, Honour, Old Gravestone, Old Bachelor, Nightcap, Marsh King, Daughter, Last Dream, Old Oak Tree, Christmas Tale, Bell-deep, Puppet Showman, Pigs, Anne Lisbeth, Charming, Duck, yard, Trod, tread, stood, Loaf, bread, Sand dunes, Bishop of Borglum, Warriors, Snow Man, Two Maidens, Farmyard Cock, Weathercock, Pen, Inkstand, Child, Grave, Soup, Sausage Peg, Wise Men, Butterfly, Uttermost, Parts, Sea, Phœnix Bird, phoenix

Book excerpt: RUDY AND BABETTE, or, Capture of The Eagle's Nest, by Hans Christian Andersen, illustrated by Helen Stratton. This book also contains 3 complimentary stories by Andersen. Towards the end of “The Ice Maiden” Andersen tells the tale of Rudy, a boy who lost both his parents and goes to live with his uncle. Rudy grows up to become a skilled mountain climber and huntsman. He falls in love with the miller's daughter, Babette, however the miller disapproves of the relationship. He gives Rudy the impossible task of climbing to the top of a dangerous mountain and bringing back a live baby eaglet. While Babette was off visiting her godmother, she catches the attention of her cousin and flirts with him, which makes Rudy jealous. They have a disagreement and she tells him to leave. On his way home, Rudy comes across a beautiful maiden who really is the Ice Maiden in disguise. He soon finds himself kissing the Ice Maiden. In his shame, he returns to Babette and begs her forgiveness. Their wedding day nears and they travel to the godmother's house to be wed. The night after their arrival Babette has an awful dream that she cheats on Rudy with her cousin. One night before the wedding, Babette decides she wants to go to a small island with just enough room for the two of them to dance. As they sit and talk, Babette notices the boat is slipping away. Rudy swims after it, but the Ice Maiden kisses him one last time and he drowns. Babette is left alone on the island crying over the death of her loved one, but nobody can hear her over the wind. ======================== Hans Christian Andersen (often referred to in Scandinavia as H. C. Andersen) was a Danish author and poet. Although a prolific writer of plays, travelogues, novels, and poems, Andersen is best remembered for his fairy tales. Andersen's popularity is not limited to children; his stories — called eventyr, or "fairy-tales" — express themes that transcend age and nationality. ======================== KEYWORDS/TAGS: Rudy and Babette, Switzerland, Alps, Alpine, Annette, avalanche, beautiful, bells, blue cloak, canton, cat, chamois, climb, crevasse, death, deep, eagle, eaglet, Englishman, eyes, fortune, French, Giddy, glacier, good, grandfather, great, Grindelwald, high, Ice-Maiden, Interlaken, island, journey, kiss, lake, mill, miller, mountain, mountains, nest, parlor, Rhone river, snow, spirits, Vallais, valleys, Aare river, Lake Thun, Lake Brienz, France, Italy,

This book was released on 2020-03-11 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Nursery Alice" is a shortened and simplified version of "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" also created by Lewis Carroll in 1889/90 especially for children aged “0 to 5”. This edition was created twenty-five years after the original full-length work was published. Adapted by the author himself for children this is in effect an easy-to-read edition for preschool children. It includes 20 of John Tenniel's illustrations from the original book, redrawn, enlarged, coloured – and, in some cases, revised – by Tenniel himself The work is not merely a shortened and simplified version, along the lines of “Alice's Adventures in Wonderland” retold in words of one syllable. It is written as though the story is being read aloud by someone who is also talking to the child/listener, with many interpolations by the author, pointing out details in the pictures and asking questions, such as "Which would you have liked the best, do you think, to be a little tiny Alice, no larger than a kitten, or a great tall Alice, with your head always knocking against the ceiling?" There are also additions, such as an anecdote about a puppy called Dash, and an explanation of the word "foxglove". ============== KEYWORDS/TAGS: Alice in Wonderland, adventures, white rabbit, mad hatter, tea party, queen of hearts, knave of hearts, dream, fantasy, unreal, nursery Alice, mothers with children, parents with children, fathers with children, grandparents, accident, accused, afraid, alone, amusement, angel-hands, angry, animal, Ann, archers, arm-chair, asleep, babies, Baby, balls, Bantam-Cock, beautiful, Bill, birthday, present, birthday treat, Bliss, bread and butter, breast, buns, calf’s head, Caterpillar, cathedral, Caucus Race, Cheshire Cat, Child, children, chimney, Christmas tide, Churchpocket, corners, Croquet, crokay, dance, Dash, deedy, Dodo, dogs eared, doll, Dormouse, Duchess, Duck, Eaglet, Easter, Fairies, folklore, myth and legend, Ferret, fire place, Flamingo, Folk’s Gloves, fountain, Foxes, Fox Glove, foxglove, gay, glee, glitter, glorious, God, good-bye, goodbye, grand, Grew, grey headed, grinning, Gryphon, Hare, Hatter, Heaven, Hedgehog, hedge-hog, Hippopotamus, hookah, Judge, Jury, King, kiss, Knave, Jack of Hearts, laughter, Lizard, Lobster-Quadrille, Lory, Love, Mad, magic, March, Mary, Mists, mouse hole, naked, Nursery, oatmeal porridge, Pig baby, pocket, handkerchief, poem, prisoner, Puppy, Queen, Prince, Rabbit, rabbit hole, racecourse, robber, roses, rose tree, rumpled, saucer, serpent, shillings, Shower, Song, Squirrel, Storkling, Sun, sweet, swimming, tarts, Tea, teacups, thimble, toy cupboard, ugly, undraw, vain, vanity, vanish, waggon, waistcoat, White rabbit, wicked, Wonderland, wooden, wriggle, young, fables, bedtime stories, children’s stories,

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume from Evelyn Sharp is a rare gem. Each story is delightful and each has an equally delightful illustration. Read your children a new one each night, and you will find they are the perfect stories to get them to drift off to sleep with pleasant, fairy-filled dreams. The stories in this volume are: I. The Country Called Nonamia II. Why The Wymps Cried III. The Story Of Honey And Sunny IV. The Little Princess And The Poet V. The Wonderful Toymaker VI. The Professor Of Practical Jokes VII. The Doll That Came Straight From Fairyland VIII. Those Wymps Again! Evelyn Sharp was as dedicated as an author as she was an historical figure, and she deserves a larger modern readership. Sharp, and maybe Dickens, were the only authors included disabilities in their writings. This, accompanied by her strong, concise storytelling (the perfect length for little minds and easily-distracted adults) and her radical life story make her one of my favorite figures from the period. Sharp was a dedicated feminist during the suffragette era and refused to pay her taxes. All her belongings, including her type-writer were seized and sold to pay off her debts. 10% of the publisher’s profit will be donated to Charities.
