Book Synopsis Cellular and Molecular Mechanisms of Inflammation by : Charles G. Cochrane
Download or read book Cellular and Molecular Mechanisms of Inflammation written by Charles G. Cochrane and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cellular and Molecular Mechanisms of Inflammation: Vascular Adhesion Molecules presents the study of the structure and function of constitutive and inducible cell surface structures, which contribute to the temporal and spatial patterns, and cellular selectivity of leukocyte-vessel wall interactions. The book addresses the rapidly expanding field of vascular adhesion molecules. Contributed articles discuss SELECTINS, a family of structurally related glycoproteins that contain lectin like domains that confer leukocyte-selective adhesive functions, which include ELAM-1 (Endothelial-Leukocyte Adhesion Molecule-1), GMP-140 (PADGEM, CD62), and LAM-1 (gp 90m e l, LEC-CAM-1, LECAM-1). Other adhesive molecules such as CD44 and members of the immunoglobulin family of cell surface glycoprotiens, including ICAM-1 (CD54), VCAM-1/ INCAM-110 and LP AM-1 are also considered. The text will be very useful to cytologists, molecular biologists, physiologists, and pharmacologists.

Download or read book The Ruhr 1943 written by Richard Worrall and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2021-10-28 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This illustrated study explores, in detail, the RAF's first concentrated air campaign of World War II against one of the hardest and most important targets in Germany – the industrial heartland of the Ruhr that kept Hitler's war machine running. Between March and July 1943, RAF Bomber Command undertook its first concentrated bombing campaign, the Battle of the Ruhr, whose aim was nothing less than the complete destruction of the industry that powered the German war machine. Often overshadowed by the famous 'Dambusters' single-raid attack on the Ruhr dams, the Battle of the Ruhr proved much larger and much more complex. The mighty, industrial Ruhr region contained not only some of the most famous and important arms makers, such as the gunmakers Krupp of Essen, but also many other industries that the German war economy relied on, from steelmakers to synthetic oil plants. Being such a valuable target, the Ruhr was one of the most heavily defended regions in Europe. This book examines how the brutal Ruhr campaign was conceived and fought, and how Bomber Command's relentless pursuit of its objective drew it into raids on targets well beyond the Ruhr, from the nearby city of Cologne to the Skoda works in Czechoslovakia. Drawing on a wide-range of primary and secondary sources, this is the story of the first titanic struggle in the skies over Germany between RAF Bomber Command and the Luftwaffe.
Book Synopsis Handbook of Eicosanoids (1987) by : A. L. Willis
Download or read book Handbook of Eicosanoids (1987) written by A. L. Willis and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Building upon the extensive compilation of biochemical data featured in Volume I of the Handbook of Eicosanoids, the new Volume II describes the past, present, and potential future impact of eicosanoid research on new drug development. The reader is taken from a historical perspective through state-of-the-art basic concepts to extensive tabulation of molecular structures of compounds known to act via the eicosanoid system. Much emphasis is given to recent breakthroughs in the mechanism of action of anti-inflammatory corticosteroids and the development of receptor antagonists for prostaglandins and leukotrienes. There is also an introductory chapter that proposes areas that require further investigation and novel approaches using existing technology. This handbook will thus be invaluable for medicinal chemists, pharmacologists, and all those involved in basic research in the eicosanoid area. In addition, many parts of this handbook are suitable for use by university lecturers and students. There are 20 figures and 44 extensive tables as well as a bibliography containing more than 2,000 references that complement the text.

Book Synopsis Thermotherapy for Neoplasia, Inflammation, and Pain by : M. Kosaka
Download or read book Thermotherapy for Neoplasia, Inflammation, and Pain written by M. Kosaka and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive overview of the multitude of different forms of thermotherapy in connection with aspects of thermal physiology and cell biology. The aim is to elucidate the scientific background of therapeutic actions and to promote effective new applications at the beginning of the 21st century. Significant to these purposes is cooperation between experts in the fields of thermal biology, hyper thermic oncology, rheumatology, and balneology, as represented by the editors. Emphasis has been placed on a balanced choice of contributions, in the hope that this will enable the reader to draw helpful connections between the principles and prac tice of thermotherapy. It is apparent that a wealth of published data exists concerning thermotherapy on the one hand and thermal physiology on the other. However, in the former field empirical aspects of therapeutic usefulness prevail, while in the latter, aspects of basic science are in the foreground. Accordingly, the sources where published data may be found are quite different and as a consequence many findings of potential mutual interest published in medical journals have gone unnoticed by readers of physio logical journals, and vice versa. It is hoped that this book will bridge the gap and encourage researchers' efforts to integrate the available knowledge to attain optimal coordination of clinical and theoretical aspects.
