Download or read book State of the Art Report on Seismic Design Requirements for Nonstructural Building Components written by Long T. Phan and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 1998-03 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seismic design requirements for nonstructural building components of five major building codes, including the 1994 Uniform Bldg. Code, the 1994 Standard Bldg. Code, the 1994 NEHRP Recommended Provisions for Seismic Regulations for New Buildings, the New Zealand Bldg. Code, and the Japanese Bldg. Code, were reviewed in this study. Comparisons of codes reveal wide variation in seismic force and displacement requirements, both in terms of levels of stringency and levels of details. The difference in seismic force requirements between the most and least stringent codes can be more than five times.
Book Synopsis Performance-Based Seismic Design of Structures by : Satyabrata Choudhury
Download or read book Performance-Based Seismic Design of Structures written by Satyabrata Choudhury and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-07-01 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seismic design of structures is fast turning to performance-based design (PBD) from old codal force-based design (FBD) method. The aim of the book is to expose readers to the meaning and need of PBD, the evolution of PBD to date, its various forms and applications. Various design philosophies and procedures have been described including modelling aspects and hazard considerations backed by examples. Direct displacement-based design (DDBD) and Unified PBD (UPBD) of reinforced concrete (RC) frame buildings, RC dual systems, steel frame buildings and bridge piers have also been explained. The main features of this book are as follows: • Illustrates performance-based seismic design to achieve the design target by performance objective-oriented design procedure. • Covers modern design philosophies, modelling aspects, concepts in nonlinearities and use of supplemental damping devices. • Contains a chapter on seismic safety of nonstructural components. • Describes UPBD design procedure and examples of different structural systems. • Includes application and examples with reference to SAP2000 software. This book is aimed at graduate students, researchers and professionals in civil engineering, earthquake engineering and structural design.
Book Synopsis Elements of Earthquake Engineering and Structural Dynamics by : André Filiatrault
Download or read book Elements of Earthquake Engineering and Structural Dynamics written by André Filiatrault and published by Presses inter Polytechnique. This book was released on 2013 with total page 876 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In order to reduce the seismic risk facing many densely populated regions worldwide, including Canada and the United States, modern earthquake engineering should be more widely applied. But current literature on earthquake engineering may be difficult to grasp for structural engineers who are untrained in seismic design. In addition no single resource addressed seismic design practices in both Canada and the United States until now. Elements of Earthquake Engineering and Structural Dynamics was written to fill the gap. It presents the key elements of earthquake engineering and structural dynamics at an introductory level and gives readers the basic knowledge they need to apply the seismic provisions contained in Canadian and American building codes."--Résumé de l'éditeur.

Book Synopsis Post-earthquake Traffic Capacity of Modern Bridges in California by : Vesna Terzic
Download or read book Post-earthquake Traffic Capacity of Modern Bridges in California written by Vesna Terzic and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The test results were then used to calibrate a finite element model of a bridge column. This bridge column model was incorporated into a hybrid model of a typical California overpass bridge and tested using the hybrid simulation technique. The finite element model of the typical California overpass bridge was validated using the data from hybrid simulations. The validated model of the typical bridge was used to evaluate its post-earthquake truck load capacity in an extensive parametric study that examined the effects of different ground motions and bridge modeling parameters such as the boundary conditions imposed by the bridge abutments, the location of the truck on the bridge, and the amount of bridge column residual drift. The principal outcomes of this study are the following findings.
Book Synopsis Performance of Circular Reinforced Concrete Bridge Columns Under Bidirectional Earthquake Loading by : Mahmoud M. Hachem
Download or read book Performance of Circular Reinforced Concrete Bridge Columns Under Bidirectional Earthquake Loading written by Mahmoud M. Hachem and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Describes the dynamic testing of 4 circular reinforced concrete bridge columns. The specimens were divided into 2 pairs, with each pair subjected to a different ground motion. Within each pair, one specimen was subjected to one component of the ground motion, while the other was subjected to 2 components. Two analytical studies were carried out for a wide array of column heights, diameters, and axial load intensities. The columns were subjected to large suites of ground motions scaled to match on average the design response spectrum.

Download or read book Finite Element Reliability and Sensitivity Methods for Performance-based Earthquake Engineering written by Terje Haukaas and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The work in this report is motivated by the performance-based engineering approach advocated by PEER. A comprehensive, object-oriented software framework for finite element sensitivity and reliability analysis is developed. The work builds on the existing software OpenSees. The software framework is used to investigate and address challenges particular to nonlinear finite element reliability analysis. As a result, smoothed material models, modifications in existing search algorithms, and a search algorithm hitherto not used in reliability analysis are developed.
