Ce travail doit être complété, après plusieurs mois d'utilisation du L.P.C., d'une étude plus approfondie sur les capacités d'analyse segmentale de la parole de ces enfants ; cette comparaison permettra alors d'apprécier les possiblités de développement ou de renforcement du système phonologique des enfants sourds grâce à l'apprentissage, même tardif, du L.P.C.

Il se sert essentiellement de la lecture labiale pour comprendre son interlocuteur. Cependant, la lecture labiale ne fournissant qu'environ 40% du message, l'enfant sourd profond stocke des représentations phonologiques erronées. Pour pallier ce problème, le Docteur Cornett a inventé le cued-speech (LPC en français) qui permet de compléter la lecture labiale et de comprendre 100% du message parlé. L'étude de ce mémoire porte donc sur le LPC et plus particulièrement sur son utilisation régulière avec l'enfant sourd profond, c'est-à-dire, lorsque les parents codent entièrement le discours pour leur enfant. Nous voulions voir si le fait d'utiliser le LPC régulièrement favorisait la compréhension en lecture labiale seule et permettait à l'enfant sourd de se passer progressivement du code. Pour ce faire, nous avons étudié une population d'enfants âgés de 6 à 9 ans. Nous leur avons proposés une épreuve de désignation d'images après écoute d'un mot proposé soit en lecture labiale seule, soit en lecture labiale complétée des clés du LPC. Les résultats obtenus ont montré que le LPC utilisé régulièrement et précocement avec l'enfant sourd profond améliorait ses capacités de compréhension en lecture labiale seule.
