Download or read book Associative and Non-Associative Algebras and Applications written by Mercedes Siles Molina and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-01-02 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gathers together selected contributions presented at the 3rd Moroccan Andalusian Meeting on Algebras and their Applications, held in Chefchaouen, Morocco, April 12-14, 2018, and which reflects the mathematical collaboration between south European and north African countries, mainly France, Spain, Morocco, Tunisia and Senegal. The book is divided in three parts and features contributions from the following fields: algebraic and analytic methods in associative and non-associative structures; homological and categorical methods in algebra; and history of mathematics. Covering topics such as rings and algebras, representation theory, number theory, operator algebras, category theory, group theory and information theory, it opens up new avenues of study for graduate students and young researchers. The findings presented also appeal to anyone interested in the fields of algebra and mathematical analysis.

Book Synopsis Automorphisms of Finite Groups by : Inder Bir Singh Passi
Download or read book Automorphisms of Finite Groups written by Inder Bir Singh Passi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-01-12 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book describes developments on some well-known problems regarding the relationship between orders of finite groups and that of their automorphism groups. It is broadly divided into three parts: the first part offers an exposition of the fundamental exact sequence of Wells that relates automorphisms, derivations and cohomology of groups, along with some interesting applications of the sequence. The second part offers an account of important developments on a conjecture that a finite group has at least a prescribed number of automorphisms if the order of the group is sufficiently large. A non-abelian group of prime-power order is said to have divisibility property if its order divides that of its automorphism group. The final part of the book discusses the literature on divisibility property of groups culminating in the existence of groups without this property. Unifying various ideas developed over the years, this largely self-contained book includes results that are either proved or with complete references provided. It is aimed at researchers working in group theory, in particular, graduate students in algebra.

Excerpt: In ring theory, a branch of abstract algebra, an ideal is a special subset of a ring. Ideals generalize certain subsets of the integers, such as the even numbers or the multiples of 3. Addition and subtraction of even numbers preserves evenness, and multiplying an even number by any other integer results in another even number; these closure and absorption properties are the defining properties of an ideal. Among the integers, the ideals correspond one-for-one with the non-negative integers: in this ring, every ideal is a principal ideal consisting of the multiples of a single non-negative number. However, in other rings, the ideals may be distinct from the ring elements, and certain properties of integers, when generalized to rings, attach more naturally to the ideals than to the elements of the ring. For instance, the prime ideals of a ring are analogous to prime numbers, and the Chinese remainder theorem can be generalized to ideals. There is a version of unique prime factorization for the ideals of a Dedekind domain (a type of ring important in number theory). An ideal can be used to construct a quotient ring similarly to the way that modular arithmetic can be defined from integer arithmetic, and also similarly to the way that, in group theory, a normal subgroup can be used to construct a quotient group. The concept of an order ideal...

Download or read book Free Group Rings written by Narain Gupta and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1987 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with some aspects of linear techniques in combinatorial group theory having their origin in the work of Wilhelm Magnus in the 1930s. The central theme is the identification and properties of those subgroups of free groups which are induced by certain ideals of the integral group rings of free groups. This subject has been developed extensively, and the author seeks to present, in contemporary style, a systematic and comprehensive account of some of its developments. Included in the book are a solution of the Fox subgroup problem and an up-to-date development of the dimension subgroup problem. Aimed at graduate students and researchers in combinatorial group theory, the book requires a familiarity with the general terminology of free groups and group rings.
