Book Synopsis Reactive power grid adequacy studies for distribution grids with high distributed generation by : Markus Kraiczy
Download or read book Reactive power grid adequacy studies for distribution grids with high distributed generation written by Markus Kraiczy and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2020-01-01 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nowadays distributed energy resources (DER) can provide certain reactive power flexibility for voltage support in alternating current power systems. Besides local voltage support at the distribution level, the DER can also provide reactive power flexibility at the transmission-distribution (T-D) interface, which can improve the reactive power grid adequacy of the distribution level. The term reactive power grid adequacy describes the compliance level of a distribution grid with a predefined reactive power range at the T-D interface. However, a challenge in grid planning procedures is the consideration of the usually intermittent reactive power flexibility potential by the DER. This study aims to develop practicable grid planning procedures for advanced reactive power management at the T-D interface by making use of controllable reactive power sources at the distribution level, like DER and distributed reactive power compensators. The study is performed for a real German distribution grid section with very high-distributed generation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fully comprehensive introduction to smart grid standards and their applications for developers, consumers and service providers The critical role of standards for smart grid has already been realized by world-wide governments and industrial organizations. There are hundreds of standards for Smart Grid which have been developed in parallel by different organizations. It is therefore necessary to arrange those standards in such a way that it is easier for readers to easily understand and select a particular standard according to their requirements without going into the depth of each standard, which often spans from hundreds to thousands of pages. The book will allow people in the smart grid areas and in the related industries to easily understand the fundamental standards of smart grid, and quickly find the building-block standards they need from hundreds of standards for implementing a smart grid system. The authors highlight the most advanced works and efforts now under way to realize an integrated and interoperable smart grid, such as the “NIST Framework and Roadmap for Smart Grid Interoperability Standards Release 2.0”, the” IEC Smart Grid Standardization Roadmap”, the ISO/IEC’s “Smart Grid Standards for Residential Customers”, the ZigBee/HomePlug’s “Smart Energy Profile Specification 2.0”, IEEE’s P2030 “Draft Guide for Smart Grid Interoperability of Energy Technology and Information Technology Operation with the Electric Power System (EPS), and End-Use Applications and Loads”, and the latest joint research project results between the world’s two largest economies, US and China. The book enables readers to fully understand the latest achievements and ongoing technical works of smart grid standards, and assist industry utilities, vendors, academia, regulators, and other smart grid stakeholders in future decision making. Download or read book The Grid written by Julie A Cohn and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2018-02-02 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of the grid, the world's largest interconnected power machine that is North America's electricity infrastructure. The North American power grid has been called the world's largest machine. The grid connects nearly every living soul on the continent; Americans rely utterly on the miracle of electrification. In this book, Julie Cohn tells the history of the grid, from early linkages in the 1890s through the grid's maturity as a networked infrastructure in the 1980s. She focuses on the strategies and technologies used to control power on the grid—in fact made up of four major networks of interconnected power systems—paying particular attention to the work of engineers and system operators who handled the everyday operations. To do so, she consulted sources that range from the pages of historical trade journals to corporate archives to the papers of her father, Nathan Cohn, who worked in the industry from 1927 to 1989—roughly the period of key power control innovations across North America. Cohn investigates major challenges and major breakthroughs but also the hidden aspects of our electricity infrastructure, both technical and human. She describes the origins of the grid and the growth of interconnection; emerging control issues, including difficulties in matching generation and demand on linked systems; collaboration and competition against the backdrop of economic depression and government infrastructure investment; the effects of World War II on electrification; postwar plans for a coast-to-coast grid; the northeast blackout of 1965 and the East-West closure of 1967; and renewed efforts at achieving stability and reliability after those two events.
