Book Synopsis Funding the Greek Crisis by : Constantinos Ikonomou
Download or read book Funding the Greek Crisis written by Constantinos Ikonomou and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2018-06-15 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How does one distinguish between European Union investments that improve welfare and those that create economic malaise? Funding the Greek Crisis: The European Union, Cohesion Policies, and the Great Recession explores the sources of the Greek Crisis that lie primarily in EU policies that appeared to have worked better for other countries but not for Greece. Without overly simplifying the Greek condition, it provides insights into policies the countries of the euro area may need to implement in order to ensure collective cohesion and individual success. Arguing that EU preferences for autonomous investments discouraged organic development with lasting implications, Funding the Greek Crisis sheds new light on the nature of regional competitiveness and public economics. Encompasses public economics, macroeconomics, international trade, competitiveness, microeconomics and regional development studies Sheds light on key policies that affect millions of EU citizens Examines Solow’s growth model Provides a different way of explaining growth from real business cycle theory

It examines the relationship from 1961, through its freezing as a result of the authoritarian Greek regime in 1967 and the negotiation of full membership in 1981. The book focusses on interest politics and shows how Greek sectoral corporatism has been transformed, largely as a result of EU membership. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based on the Regional Section of the Development Plan 2000-2006, prepared by the Regional Development Institute according to the Greek Ministry of National Economy's directions and available data. The different development proposals coming from the Country's Regions were also taken into account. The information contained in the Regional Development Institute's database and the conclusions of the studies made by the Institute's collaborators were also used. The thematic maps in this edition were also produced by the Regional Development Institute's GIS (Geographical Information System) laboratory. The Development Plan 2000-2006 was submitted by the Ministry of National Economy to the European Union in September 1999 and represents the basis for the 3rd Community Support Framework's acceptance. The book is organized into four parts. Part one contains six chapters reflecting the evolution of the Greek and European Regional Policy, as well as the trends for the coming period. More specifically, the first part refers to: the Greek Regional Policy of the 1950-1985 period, the EEC Regional Policy, the twenty years of Operational Programme (1986-2006), the evolution of the main objectives and priorities for this period, the evolution of means and processes and the new trends in Regional Policy and Planning. In the second part, the basic figures and trends of Regional Development in Greece are analysed. Specifically, we refer here to the population concentration, the regional distribution of GDP, the employment and unemployment rates and the sector specialisation.
Book Synopsis Interpreting Convergence in the European Union by : C. Paraskevopoulos
Download or read book Interpreting Convergence in the European Union written by C. Paraskevopoulos and published by Springer. This book was released on 2001-06-18 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interpreting Convergence in the European Union introduces the idea of collective action as a prerequisite for achieving convergence and cohesion in the European Union. Institutional networks and social capital play a crucial role in influencing actors' preferences and shaping institutional interactions through the process of political exchange and socialization. Although the main focus of the book is on policymaking processes and governance structures in EU regional policy, its core theoretical hypotheses and conclusion are drawn from empirical research into the response of Greek regions to the challenges of Europeanization. This framework is applicable to almost all areas of EU public policymaking.
Book Synopsis Governance, Institutional Change and Regional Development by : Mike Danson
Download or read book Governance, Institutional Change and Regional Development written by Mike Danson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-02-05 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2000: This volume addresses the prominent role given to institution-building, institutional change and governance in the regional development strategies and policies. The establishment of the Scottish Parliament, Welsh and Northern Ireland Assemblies, and the arrival of regional development agencies in England highlighted the need to put the initiatives into some context, drawing on experience from across Europe on the critical factors in the determination of the potential and success of regions. Central to the discussions presented here by a group of European experts are the question of governance - how does an ongoing process of institution-building affect the ways in which regions and localities are governed, including questions of democracy, participation, regional self-determination, public-private partnerships, networks and accountability; and the consequences of new modes of governance and institutional change for regional development strategies and policies, particularly in the context of large-scale industrial restructuring and city-region and urban regeneration.

Book Synopsis The Competitive Advantage of Greece by : Ioannis Konsolas
Download or read book The Competitive Advantage of Greece written by Ioannis Konsolas and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-10-05 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2002: This compelling text is the first major application of Michael Porter's diamond framework to identify the sources of national competitive advantage in the case of Greece. Offering a useful evaluation of Porter's theory through an extensive literature review, the book also draws on empirical evidence from five selected Greek industries. It also provides information and commentary on many aspects of the Greek economy, its historical evolution and its current trends. International and Greek investors, international organizations, business consultants and financial institutions will certainly benefit from this analysis of the Greek economic environment. Moreover, universities and researchers will be interested in the evidence supporting or refuting parts of the widely used and cited "diamond" framework.
