Book Synopsis Beyond Measure by : Margaret Heffernan
Download or read book Beyond Measure written by Margaret Heffernan and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2015-05-07 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A powerful manifesto for CEOs and employees alike, this book reveals how organizations can make huge changes with surprisingly small steps. In an age of 'radical' shifts and 'disruption', business leader Margaret Heffernan lays the groundwork for a new kind of thinking, arguing that organizations can create seismic shifts by making deceptively small changes such as using every mind on the team, celebrating mistakes and encouraging time off from work. A popular TED speaker, Heffernan is a wise and witty storyteller who fully engages her reader at every turn. Filled with incredible anecdotes and startling statistics, she takes us on a fascinating tour across the globe, highlighting disparate business and revealing how they've managed to change themselves in big ways through incremental shifts. How did the CIA revolutionize their intelligence gathering with one simple question? How did one organization increase their revenue by 15 million by instituting a short coffee break? How can a day-long hackathon change the culture of a company? Heffernan investigates all these scenarios and comes to the same conclusion: big improvements can come from simply making small changes.

Book Synopsis The Idea of Form by : Rodolphe Gasché
Download or read book The Idea of Form written by Rodolphe Gasché and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2003 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Against the assumption that aesthetic form relates to a harmonious arrangement of parts into a beautiful whole, this book argues that reason is the real theme of the "Critique of Judgment" as of the two earlier "Critiques." Since aesthetic judgment of the beautiful becomes possible only when the mind is confronted with things of nature, for which no determined concepts of understanding are available, aesthetic judgment is involved in an epistemological or, rather, para-epistemological task. The predicate "beautiful" indicates that something has minimal form and is cognizable. This book explores this concept of form, in particular the role of presentation ("Darstellung") in what Kant refers to as "mere form," which involves not only the understanding, but also reason as the faculty of ideas. Such a notion of form reveals why the beautiful can be related to the morally good. On the basis of this reinterpreted concept of form, most major concepts and themes of the "Critique of Judgment"--such as disinterestedness, free play, the sublime, genius, and beautiful arts--are examined by the author and shown in a new light.
Book Synopsis Profit Beyond Measure by : Anders Broms
Download or read book Profit Beyond Measure written by Anders Broms and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2001-05-29 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Waste has plagued almost every industrial-age firm for the past century. In this powerfully argued alternative to conventional cost management thinking, experts H. Thomas Johnson and Anders Bröms assert that any company can avoid the waste that is generated through excessive operating costs in the short run and excessive losses from market instability in the long run. To gain more secure levels of profitability, management must simply change how it thinks about work and how it organizes work. Profit Beyond Measure details how two extremely profitable manufacturers, Toyota and the Swedish truck maker Scania, have rejected the traditional mechanistic mindset of managing by results that generates waste. Johnson and Bröms explain how Toyota and Scania achieve their legendary cost advantage through a revolutionary concept they call managing by means (MBM). Instead of being driven to meet preconceived accounting targets, the production systems of Toyota and Scania are governed by the three precepts that guide all living systems: self-organization, interdependence, and diversity. Amid a wealth of new insights into Toyota's vaunted system, Johnson and Bröms introduce the tools of MBM to show how design, production, and profitability analysis are done to customer order. They demonstrate that by following the principles that emulate life systems, even a lean and profitable company can organize work to greatly lessen its long-term earnings instability and sharply reduce its short-run operating costs. Scania has achieved sixty-five years of financial stability and longevity in the face of fierce competition. Toyota has amassed a market value since 1988 that has rivaled -- or sometimes surpassed -- the American "Big Three" automakers combined. The principles that Johnson and Bröms set forth in Profit Beyond Measure can guarantee the same richer, longer life to any company that applies them.

Book Synopsis The Church: Rights and Responsibilities of the Believer by : Zacharias Tanee Fomum
Download or read book The Church: Rights and Responsibilities of the Believer written by Zacharias Tanee Fomum and published by ZTF Books Online. This book was released on with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this compelling message, Prof Fomum delves into the rights, privileges, and responsibilities of the believer within the context of the church. He puts things in the form of a systematic exposition of the Scriptures in the book of Ephesians. The unique characteristics and raison d'être of the church are clearly presented. · Is the church a building or the people? · What's the role of the church in the believer's life and vice versa? · How does someone become a member of the church? · What does a believer miss by not being part of the local church? The reader will discover that all of God’s power is available to the believer only in the context of the church. He who is fully in the church will tap into that power. The purposes of God are tied to the church. Unless one finds his place in the church, in the local context, he has missed it all. Every believer must therefore get to know his rights and responsibilities in the local church, flow in them, fulfill them and enjoy the benefits therein. The believer's rights are an empowering anointing while spiritual gifts and offices are given to enable him carry out every responsibility successfully.
Book Synopsis Where the Truth Lies by : Shane R. Cudney
Download or read book Where the Truth Lies written by Shane R. Cudney and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-11-23 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Johannes de Silentio, the pseudonymous author of Fear and Trembling, concludes that faith is “absurd” (irrational), and therefore lies beyond the scope of reason. But if we ascribe authorship ultimately to Kierkegaard, as is common practice, we must conclude that he himself is an irrationalist. Given the myriad of competing voices throughout Kierkegaard’s writings, this seems highly questionable at best. If, however, we take the pseudonymous author strictly at his authorial word, it changes the shape and dynamic of the text inviting us to read it, instead, as a “thought experiment.” In this way, the text demonstrates both the absurdity and sin of reason in its bid to fully grasp the mystery of faith on its own rational terms.

Book excerpt: The Lodge is the story of Matthew, a young freshman high schooler who had begun to question the purpose of his existence. In the privacy and tranquility of his favorite spot by the little brook in the woods behind his home, he often sat and pondered his future. More and more, he found himself wondering what it was that he was supposed to do with his life. Then late one night, a few days before Christmas, a stranger appeared to him and offered to take him on a journey that would help him find the answers to his questions. With some reluctance, Mathew accepted his offer, and together, they traveled to a lodge in a cold snow-covered northern region where Matthew spent time with some of the wisest individuals whom he had ever met. Each of the individuals whom he met helped him to take a closer look not only at his doubts and fears but also at his abilities as well. It is a journey that everyone should take.
