Book Synopsis The Science of Victorian Brown Coal by : R.A. Durie
Download or read book The Science of Victorian Brown Coal written by R.A. Durie and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 767 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Science of Victorian Brown Coal provides extensive information on Victorian brown coal, which is a major fossil fuel resource by any standard and constitutes about 97% of Victoria's recoverable energy reserves. Energy from brown coal has been the mainstay of the Victorian economy, providing low-cost electricity to the state grid, briquettes as a fuel for industry and town gas prior to the discovery of natural gas. Because of the unique properties of the coal, it has been necessary to develop an in-depth scientific knowledge of the coal and its behavior, as well as innovative technologies for its effective utilization. The economic benefit brown coal has provided to Victoria is demonstrated throughout the chapters. This book aims to provide the springboard for further research and lead to a new era in the development of value-added products and the more efficient utilization of this major resource. This text is a useful reference for students or individuals conducting research on fossil fuel energy, specifically on brown coals.

Book Synopsis Australia's Seismogenic Neotectonic Record by : Dan Clark
Download or read book Australia's Seismogenic Neotectonic Record written by Dan Clark and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Australia's rich neotectonic record provides an opportunity to better understand the characteristics of seismogenic intraplate deformation, both at the scale of a single active fault and at the scale of the entire continent.. Herein we review this knowledge and propose six preliminary seismicity source zones (domains) based upon neotectonic data. Each source zone contains active faults that we contend share common recurrence and behavioural characteristics, in a similar way that source zones are defined using the historic record of seismicity. A seventh offshore domain is proposed based upon analogy with the eastern United States. This data, and conceptual and numerical models describing the nature of the seismicity in each source zone, has the potential to significantly enhance our understanding of seismic hazard in Australia at a time scale more representative than the snapshot provided by the historic record of seismicity. This includes providing a means by which to estimate key parameters underpinning the next generation seismic hazard maps for Australia, such as maximum magnitude earthquake and seismic source zone b values.

Book excerpt: "Comminution might well be the great technology of the 21st century, yet only a paucity of information exists on the topic. Alban Lynch has taken it upon himself to address this void, assembling an assortment of industry experts to produce the Comminution Handbook. With contributions from the coal, cement, sulfide and industrial mineral industries, as well as mill manufacturing and modelling groups, this work presents an overview of all aspects of comminution, the process of reducing solid materials via crushing and grinding. It comprises 16 chapters structured around the themes of material attributes, processing equipment, circuit design and circuit optimisation and control. The volume will appeal to professionals who are involved in, or have an interest in, comminution, metallurgy and related fields. It is hoped that the book will present comminution as it is today to those who have the responsibility of improving the technology in the future."--Publisher description, viewed AusIMM website, 7 October 2015.
