They are sent away from those who love them to impersonal institutions where they are viewed as simply more needy people requiring care. But that's not the vision of ''honor thy father and thy mother'' which we seek to communicate. This uplifting book for children combats those ideas by teaching children by good example the gentle art of loving and caring for the elderly. Author Stephanie Cone has drawn upon her own personal experience of caring for her grandmother and teamed up with illustrator Matthew Sample to produce this beautiful book which will inspire your children to embrace the opportunity to care for Grandma or Grandpa. So come on a journey with young Albert, who finds out that Grandma's Moving In! and that you don't have to be a grown-up to help care for an aging loved one.

Download or read book Just Call Me Jane written by Dennis Solon and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-10-11 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I have always had people who knew my mother tell me that someday someone should write a book about that woman. While I sometimes had the inclination to write her story, I never seemed to find the time. However, I was forced to have a spinal fusion and the recovery period meant months away from my golf game. I now had the time to write my mothers story, which turned out to be my story as well. Because this would be a totally new venture for me, I was looking for help and input from many directions. Undoubtedly, Martha, my wife, was my biggest helper and supporter. I want to thank her for putting up with Jane and her bizarre ways all those years. Martha also has a degree in English, which came in very handy when editing the book. Next I would like to acknowledge our four children, Mark, Michael, John, and Shannon. They all had to deal with Jane. They reminded me of some of Janes eccentricities which are mentioned in this book. Most of all, I want the kids to know that I sincerely regret that Jane was not a better Grandma to them. Grandmas are wonderful people and our kids missed out on that joy in life. I appreciate the input of Rosie Browning, our friend and accomplished teacher of English, who read the first draft and made many suggestions that I welcomed and incorporated into the book. I would also like to thank Sandi Faber for her contribution and editing skills. Many thanks to Dee Domingo, our neighbor and computer guru. I could not have put this book on a flash drive without her. I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge all of my friends who gave me such positive encouragement. My friend Jeanie Williamson suggested the title, and Nancy Campbell, my former secretary, shared some of her memories with me. Every story about Jane in this book is true and is written exactly as remembered by folks who dealt with her directly. To my brother-in-law Jerome Carrigan, my nephew Jay Carrigan and his wife Lisa, my niece Michele, and certainly John Nelson, I just want to say thanks for remembering.

Download or read book EPIPHANY RISE written by Epiphany Toi Williams and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-04-30 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The continued journeys of my life have been a true testament of triumph accompanied with a relentless spirit. My hope in sharing this ultimately warmhearted story (my story) is to take you readers on your own journey. My passageway may break your heart at times, make you laugh out loud during others, and most assuredly make you question your own existence and experiences," Williams was born a black child in the ’60s to a suicidal mother with demons and addictions that would pursue her for most of her life. She was considered a special child—a child born with a purpose and, as some would suggest, born differently than most. She was born with a caul better known as a veil over her face and head. Her mother’s severe mood swings and a preoccupation with dying caused her to develop her own real physical body ailments, mood swings, and bouts with depression. She found herself running and hiding from her own demons. Her life was filled with distrust, sexual perversions, and self-destruction from early childhood and adulthood. This memoir chronicles how, amid all the tribulations, the author managed to face life with positivity and emerged victorious. Celebrate the triumphant return of a woman on her own, making rules and breaking them. Never before has a story of this magnitude been revealed with such depth and controversy.EPIPHANY RISE will engage you with a story of a lost life that was restored.
Book Synopsis Great Grandma's Guidelines to Prevent Childhood Accidents by : Florence Parry
Download or read book Great Grandma's Guidelines to Prevent Childhood Accidents written by Florence Parry and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-07 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to bring about a general community awareness of ALREADY KNOWN CONTRIBUTING FACTORS and PRECAUTIONS that can be taken to prevent the constant re-occurrence of PREDICTABLE childhood accidents that occur to children aged from 0 to 14 years of age. PREVENTION is BETTER than CURE - SOMETIMES there is NO CURE When a baby is born, the parents are not magically bestowed with "all the knowledge and skills of child rearing". This has to be learned. "NOT the HARD WAY by TRIAL and ERROR" Rearing children in such a way can lead to a child having to pay a very high price for his learning experience and the Carer' at the time of the accident become deeply affected by feelings of regret and sorrow. It makes more sense for parents to FIND OUT BEFORE rather than AFTER an accident has occurred the precautions they could have taken. IF ONLY THEY HAD KNOWN.
Download or read book Grandma's Baby written by Karen Wise and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2012-07-06 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What would you do if someone gravely injured one of your children or grandchildren, intentionally? Unfortunately I have experienced that scenario first-hand and much like it did me the answer may surprise you. On June 19, 1998, my daughter's boyfriend beat and shook my 14-month old granddaughter nearly to death because she would not stop crying. Immaturity and irresponsibility, coupled with an inability to cope with everyday stressors, had caused a grown man to assault a defenseless baby. Fighting for her life she arrived at a local hospital emergency room by ambulance, her diagnosis – Shaken Baby Syndrome/Abusive Head Trauma (SBS/AHT). Her prognosis awakened a community to a medical term that many had never heard before that evening, and ignited a fire inside of everyone to stop the insanity of Shaken Baby Syndrome. Americans today have been stunned by unprecedented terrorist attacks, escalating wars in the Middle East, and unparalleled financial crisis at home. We are living in a world in which children are no longer safe at school without electronic security and ordinary people are brutally shaking infants when they can no longer cope with the sound of them crying. The time has come for our nation to reassess its priorities and restore basic human values within our communities to protect our most valuable natural resource from senseless and preventable acts of violence. I believe the dividends will be priceless.

Book excerpt: Somewhere along the way in life, you start to listen to that little voice. We are all on this journey together, growing, learning, and changing. As I stood in the kitchen of my dream home, looking out on the still water of the pond, I cried. Warm, salty tears streamed down my face as I told myself I could do this. "Just start with one box; don't get overwhelmed. Pack one box; stay focused." I started packing Grandma's china first. As I packed the china set, a flood of memories came of the countless times I had carefully wrapped up each piece and placed them into the box. It was at that moment that I decided to write about this beautiful set of china, all the experiences and lessons I have learned along my journey. It is through my grandmother's journey that I have found my own strength and freedom. Twenty years and thirteen moves later, the china is the only set of dishes I own. When was the last time you used your china? What are you waiting for? Don't leave it locked up, waiting for a special occasion. Make today the special occasion you have been waiting for. In loving memory of my Grandma, Veronica Billetz (January 13, 1922-December 13, 2009)
