That is why, she used her experience and knowledge, to make sure that she learned all the easiest shortcuts, which would prevent her from throwing away items which were damaged, including clothes, food and other items around the house and garden. Consider this damage control done by grandma. Grandma was the first recycler. Dresses were handed down from child to child, and if there was no child of that particular age, and that dress size, it was handed over to another member of the family where the dress could be utilized through more years of wear and tear. After the dress was torn to nearly rags and tatters, she used the cloth for stuffing cushions and pillows or for patching other dresses. This may sound extremely laughable to our world, where there is plenty, and we can throw away or just give away things, when we think they are getting old, but these were the ways in which household managers – the females – were brought up in the East and the West down the centuries. Waste not want not, was their motto. So enjoy reading through these collected damage control tips, and techniques, which are going to help you keep healthy, fit, your house pest free and other techniques, all brought to you down the ages and time-tested. Let us start with the kitchen. The maximum number of accident, sickness at home and the kitchen somehow seems to be the gunpoint. Culinary mishaps take place all the time, there. But when they do, there should be no need to panic. There is a solution to every problem, if you do not fall into attitudes of hysteria and shock at every little disaster. And I know a few men and women who enjoy what is known in the 20th century as “creating.” So instead of acting like a prima donna Cordon Bleu chef, you can follow something my grandmother said, “there are absolutely no problems, there are only imaginative solutions.” Especially in matters of these things happening when you are entertaining. How to Fix Things in the Kitchen?

Chapter 2: Moo, Bah, Cluck And Oink Chapter 3: Eat Your Veggies Chapter 4: Fruits, Herbs And Flowers Conclusion Author Bio Publisher Introduction There’s a little bit of pioneer spirit in all of us. We can’t help it…it’s in our blood. For some this pioneer spirit shows itself in someone’s determination to climb to the top of the corporate ladder. But for others, this pioneer spirit takes them back to their roots…literally; giving them the desire to be self-sufficient to the greatest extent possible. If you are reading this book you are most likely someone wanting to be more self-sufficient. Good for you! With the cost of food going higher and higher every week (literally) and the nearly-constant revelations of the negative effects of chemicals, processed foods and other things we ingest, it’s a shame more people aren’t willing to do more to get back to the basics of providing for themselves. Yes, it’s true you may raise a few eyebrows or be asked if you’re hooked on reruns of “Little House on the Prairie”, but that’s okay. Besides, I bet those same people will be wishing they would have been a little less critical when you’re giving away excess produce. Anyway…the purpose of this book is to give you the direction and encouragement you need to be able to be as self-sufficient as possible. So without further ado…let’s get started.

Book excerpt: A Beginner’s Guide to Cacti - How to Make a Cactus Garden Table of Contents Introduction Cactus Spines Choosing Your Cacti Growing Your Cacti Preparing Soil for Cactus Suitable Soil for Cactus Preparing Leaf Mold Potting Your Cactus Plant Watering Your Cactus Watering Methods Light spray During Summer Cactus Decaying? Sunlight Hibernation for Cactus Protecting Your Cactus in the Winter Planting Your Cactus Offsets How to grow Cacti from Cuttings Cactus as Food Diseases and pests Appendix Cactus clubs Author Bio Introduction For all those people who have confronted a prickly pear, at least once in their lives, cacti are boring spiny plants. Also, cactus plants have long been the subject of a superstition that any house, which has cactus growing in it is going to be filled up with strife and trouble and arguments. That is because of the spines of the cactus which are known as spikes promote ill feeling. There is something so odd about a cactus plant that it is often difficult until you grow them yourself to believe that these really belong to the plant kingdom. Historically, how many pioneer explorers of the desert areas in America saw them in the twilight and thought stories of monsters with their arms outstretched, and no heads, who turned into plants in the desert in the morning. No wonder, these giants which can grow up to 63 feet have always been the subject for legends. Even today, most of us are told tales about the cactus, which many of us half believe. Some of us have heard that cacti are poisonous. Other people are going to tell us that cacti flower only once in 100 years, and only when the area is subjected to rain. The first tale is totally and true. The second tale is also untrue because certain species of cacti will flower, almost every year, if given proper cultivation and care. Cactuses, also known as cacti belong to the family Opuntiaceae. Many of these plant varieties have lost true leaves, but they still have fluted and ribbed stems. The stems store water, and many of the desert varieties have very short growing time periods. Their periods of dormancy may be long, because many times, they have to go without water and rainfall for years, especially when they are growing in the Atacama Desert. Cactus originally are natives of the Americas, except for some species, which grow in Africa.

Book excerpt: Table of Contents Introduction Historical Aspect Duration of Surgery Psychological Aspect of Surgery Reasons for Cosmetic Surgery Social Aspects Facelifts Deep Wrinkle Removal Eyelid Surgery and Crows – Feet Removal Nose and Neck Surgery Breast Surgery Liposuction and Tummy tucks Conclusion Author Bio Publisher Introduction You are going to be surprised to know that the trend for plastic surgery, – also known as cosmetic surgery and reconstructive aesthetic surgery – is turning out to be a multibillion-dollar business worldwide. There are supposedly more cosmetic surgeons in some cities, than there are practicing general practitioners, or even medical specialists? Why is this so? This book is going to tell you all about cosmetic surgery, and why people have some preconceived notions about it. Also, it is going to tell you all about surgical methods, which are practiced by reconstructive aesthetic surgeons – the new terminology for cosmetic surgeons – in order to make you look more youthful, beautiful, or just plain different. Many people know about one of the scariest socialites in the USA. She has spent $4 million in the past 10 years and more so that she can look more like a cat instead of a human being. Her justification for spending all this money, in spoiling a perfectly once beautiful face and making it look grotesque and weird, is that her multimillionaire husband loves big cats, and she wants to keep him interested in her. So that is why she is looking for that perpetual feline look. Any woman who can go to these limits in order to keep the fickle interest of Mr. Multi-Bank Accounts is definitely suffering from an infinity complex or she does not have anything constructive to do with her time. But this seems to please her. It also gets her plenty of attention because I think she enjoys the gawking audience staring at her and wondering how one could prefer to look so ugly. Especially when some of her surgical procedures made certain that she did not need a costume on Halloween in order to scare the kiddies. So, here we come to these points – do you really need plastic surgery? What are the psychological aspects of this surgery on the psyche of a human being? What is the difference between cosmetic and plastic surgery? This book is going to tell you all about reconstructive plastic surgery, and its steadily gaining importance in the life and times of beauty obsessed human beings. Cosmetic surgery has become such a booming business, just because of good PR. The demand for some people to look like a popular concept of beauty is being encouraged by media people, as well as the surgeons themselves, so that more and more people go in for cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.

Just 10 years ago, nobody bothered much about getting obsessed about weight loss in our particular neck of the woods, but now it seems that this problem has become a universal obsession. So I decided to write this book on the harmful effects of slimming and weight loss pills, so that if you have begun obsessing about weight loss with the help of these very dangerous and potentially harmful pills, at least you are going to get a deep insight into the psychological, physical, mental, and even emotional long-term negative effects, these can have on your mind, body and psyche. You are going to say, are you a doctor, show me your medical degree so that I can believe you. Under such circumstances, I am sorry, but I do not have a number of alphabets behind my name, to reassure you about what I say is true. But then, the medical association is promoting the usage of these weight loss pills, so that your health is ruined, and because I have been associated with the medical field as a hospital administrator, with a College Degree in Natural Sciences, [Zoology, Botany and Chemistry – three in 1 Degree…] with lots of knowledge of human physiology, biochemistry and the chemistry of pharmaceutical products manufactured in the labs, I believe I can give you good reasons why you should never ever think of ruining your health with weight loss pills and chemically manufactured slimming aids, which only served to deprive you of your own natural good health, in the long-term.

Book excerpt: Table of Contents Introduction General Information About Nannies & Housekeepers Advantages, Disadvantages, & Costs of Hiring a Nanny Searching For The Right Nanny Alternative Ways To Search for a Nanny Getting the Right Fit Nanny Claims And Children Vouchers Conclusion Author Bio Publisher Introduction I want to thank you for downloading the book “How to Find a Nanny for Your Kids.” This book contains the basic steps and strategies on how you can find a suitable nanny for their kids, especially during those desperate moments when you have a lot going on and you need someone to help you to look out for your children when you are not around or too busy to do so yourself. It is true what people say, that nannies are usually the best option if you need your kids to have a heart-to-heart relationship with their caretaker; also a good nanny will, on a regular basis, become just like another member of your family. As you begin this journey, it is valuable to understand that nannies are usually qualified in childcare; most of them usually have several years of experience. Since this is their profession, most of the time they do their duty for longer hours than normal child minders. Good nannies tend to provide a continuity of care within the confinement of your home, something that you might not get with a mere child minder. Furthermore, it is important to actually know what you intend to achieve from nanny services since they are expected to tend to all aspects of caring for your children, which includes doing the children's' laundry, cleaning their rooms, as well as cooking their food, just to mention a few. This guide will inform you on why such duties should be agreed upon before the care commences, and also why you might have to re-insure your car so that the nanny can use it during emergency cases, or alternatively provide expenses for fuel purchase if they have a car of their own. With this book, you will be able to understand several different types of nannies in order to identify the type of caretaker that is suitable for your family i.e. the daily nanny who leaves at the end of the day and only works for an agreed amount of time or schedule; the live-in nanny who lives in your house and has a room of his or her own; the nanny share who works for more than one family and sometimes looks after all the kids in those families together. In addition, the differences between registered and non-registered nannies have been well illustrated in this guide, as well as why parents should claim financial help in order to pay for registered nannies. Take your time to go through this book keenly as it is quite useful. It has been written in an interesting and simple way and it is the hope of the author that you will enjoy every single bit of it.

And in the 21st century, more and more youngsters are thinking of starting up their own businesses, instead of going to work on a steady well-paying job. Their excuses range from where are the well-paying jobs out there for youngsters just starting out on their career, especially when they are fresh out of and are still studying for higher educational qualifications? At the age of 35, it is possible that you have a couple of jobs under your belt already and if you have not managed to settle down to do something, one is going to wonder when you are going to grow up, become responsible for your own future and do something concrete because you seem to be wasting your time pretty conclusively and visibly as days go by. Continuous Sick Leave Volunteering for Extra Work Job Hopping Personal Relationships in the Workplace Trying to Tackle Personal Time during Company Time Conclusion Author Bio Publisher Introduction Some days ago, another management professional colleague asked me why I would want to write a book upon how to get ahead in your career, because everybody who was sensible and was professional enough to think about how best he could advance in his career knew the first three basic steps so well loved by every boss – take the long hours, the hard work and the tasks which other people think impossible as a challenge, especially in the beginning of your career. Within a couple of years, all of this will be a part of your working habits and ethos. As this book has been written for a global audience. I will take both the Eastern and the Western work traditions, ethics, working conditions and atmospheres into consideration. Also, there are a large number of factors, and moves which may limit your career, of which you do not know, and have not guessed. So if you do not intend to have your career blow up in a tremendous boom, taking your future along with it, it is time that you start getting serious about how to advance your career, without making any moves which will limit it. When you read this book, you may say, why it looks like I am talking more about American work cultures, but then as this book is for a global audience, and I am talking of what I speak, American work cultures, French, British, Australian, and Asian work cultures and working environments, I have all of these to compare and to bring to your attention. Also, you may say that I may have digressed sometimes, on topics, which are according to you, nothing to do with your career, but I am talking about social norms, cultures and traditions in those examples. They are just for general knowledge, and possibly as cautionary tales about things you do not do, especially when you have taken up a job abroad, far away from your own country and in a strange culture away from your own land.

Other Uses of Coconuts How to Make Coconut Butter Coconut Cream and Coconut Milk Coconut Cream Coconut Milk Comes First How to Make Coconut Cream Last Longer Coconuts in Cuisine Indonesian Chili Chicken Simple Coconut Chutney Traditional South Indian Coconut Chutney Traditional Coconut Pudding Conclusion Author Bio Introduction The moment you hear the word “nut” you visualize a small, well, nut with a hard shell, which needs to be removed. So how did the coconut get to be called a nut, when it is definitely not a nut, but a drupe? Whether drupe or nut, the name Coco was given to this native of South America, by Spanish explorers, because they thought that it resembled the face of a monkey [Coco.] In fact, the eyes as well as the hairy appearance of the enough, made them think of a monkey, but in ancient eastern mythology, it was considered to be the face of Lord Shiva the destroyer in Hindu mythology who had three eyes For generations, the coconut has been considered to be the tree of life, because it has provided people down the ages, with everything they wished. Oil, juice, food to eat in the shape of coconut meat, coconut milk and everything nourishing, which you can get from the coconut is readily available at hand. All you have to do is climb the tree like a Coco and gather coconuts. Did you know that more than one third of the world subsists on coconuts for survival? Many Countries have based their economies on coconut products. And that is why, in many parts of the East, cutting down the coconut tree is taboo, because of its spiritual, emotional, and traditional associated bond with human beings. Coconuts are extremely rich in minerals, vitamins and in fiber. Doctors in coastal areas know that they do not have to worry about any harm coming to victims of typhoons and epidemics, as long as they are coconuts around. Asian, Eastern and Pacific cultures have long use the products of coconut, for healing and curing, especially in alternative medicines. Coconut oil is considered to be the best moisturizer as well as healing base for medical preparations since ancient times. So everything from massaging to conditioning your hair and making beauty cosmetics from coconut have been a part of Eastern, Pacific and Asian culture for millenniums. The West has finally woken up to the medical and healing potential of the coconut and its products. Thanks to extensive research being done in the UK and in the USA, people have got to know all about the healing power of the coconut. However, it was only when Jennifer Aniston was seen in the supermarket with lots of coconuts, that it began to become really popular in America as a healthy food item. Until then, it was just used as a hair conditioner or a skin moisturizer and in other natural beauty preparations. Nobody can suffer from malnutrition or dehydration, if you have a coconut tree around. It is surprising how recently modern research has found out that coconuts are both antiviral and antibacterial. In ancient Eastern medicine, people knew how to cure throat infections, mouth infections, bladder and urinary infections, kidney related diseases, influenza, pneumonia and other diseases caused by bacteria, viruses and fungi for millenniums. In fact, if you had a tree of life in your garden, you would live almost as long as did the tree. That is because you were eating itself the fruit, which would keep you healthy and with a strong autoimmune system throughout your life.

Getting Your Seeds Ready for Sowing When to Harvest Cardamoms How to Store Cardamoms Traditional Spiced Masala Chai Making Traditional Chai Where to Use Black Cardamoms Traditional Noodle Soup Traditional Tandoori Masala Cardamoms for Healing Fighting Depression Throat and Chest Infections Conclusion Author Bio Introduction Cardamoms are considered to be one of the most expensive and precious spices in the world today, taking their place along with saffron, cinnamon, cloves and vanilla. So what is the magic about this fruit, which has made it the cause for sailors and soldiers going out to conquer lands where this plant was a native and grown extensively? Historians say that this plant is native to the Indian subcontinent, and that is why the tropical climate made this plant flourish all over Nepal, Bhutan, India, and surrounding areas. You may find cardamom in the market, packaged in green seed pods, which have to be removed so that you can find aromatic green seeds inside. The shell is papery and is equally aromatic as are the seeds. Guatemala is a top producing country for cardamoms, which are either black or green in color. Both of them belong to the same family, but are two different species. The green cardamoms which you enjoy sprinkling on your desserts , or just enjoy chewing on the seeds to freshen your breath are Elettaria, [this name has been taken from the traditional ancient name for cardamoms –elaichi- taken from the original Sanskrit ellaka] while the dark brown larger pods are Amomum. [This word has been derived from the Greek word amonos Or One without Reproach.] Many researchers believe that this is the spice referred to in the New Testament, – a large portion of which was originally written in Greek – and called amomon. In the same way, a priceless spice tablet going back more than 3000 years, and found in recent excavations in Mycenae in ancient palatial archives, talks about this precious spice-amomon. The great Greek botanist Theophrastus described this spice in 450 BCE, but he was not very certain about whether it originally came from Persia or from India. All he knew that it came from the mysterious lands of spices. Surprisingly enough, this family belongs to the same family as the well-known herb- ginger. The family is Gingiferaceae , with different genus and species making up the members of this family.

Conclusion Winter oil Introduction I remember my father recounting a traditional and ancient Persian poem to me, which he had learned when his grandmother was busy cooking in the kitchen. She was just following ancient traditions, when women from the Mogul times – 14th-century – sang this song for fun in the kitchen, while cooking and amusing their kids at the same time. The translation from the vernacular goes something like this – Clove and cardamom – good pals they Went for a forbidden swim for kicks. And soon we heard Clove yelling. “Golly, cardamom has gone for a six ”. ¬ and so on, in more hilarious verses, about how clove would and could not bother to drag the drowning cardamom out of the water, because he would get wet, catch a cold, his momma had told him not to go swimming, and so on! Until cardamom came out of the water and both went home. Home, meaning the tummy of a gourmet who would appreciate the presence of cloves and cardamom in his delicately seasoned dish. The Association of cloves and cardamoms have been a part of the lives of spices in the East. Where you put in a couple of ground cloves, you may be asked whether you want to add some more cardamoms in, too. Most often, you say yes, because after all that is going to increase the taste quotient. Cloves also go well with cinnamon, star anise, basil and pepper. Nevertheless, this book is going to tell you all about the magic of cloves, which has been considered to be one of the most precious spices treasured down the centuries by the West. Wars were fought for cardamoms, cinnamon, pepper and cloves. Trade routes to the Indies, and to the East were jealously guarded by adventurous traders in the West. Cloves first originated in Indonesia from where traders took them all over the world, in ancient times. In fact, 3000 years ago, a Chinese emperor asked his courtiers to chew ding xiang in order to keep their breath fresh, when they came into his presence. Apart from its use in medicine, it was, and is also used extensively to add taste, sweetness, and warmth to a dish. Archaeologists have found traces of cloves in archaeological excavations going back to 1721 BC in Syria. So this shows how long this great and precious spice has been associated with mankind.

Naturally, you do not have access to state-of-the-art medicine. So you are going to be using nostrums, lotions, potions, concoctions, decoctions and other remedies handed down from your ancestors and which are supposed to heal all your ailments. That means the next time you feel weak, exhausted, or just need something to perk you up, the woman of the house is going to feed you with Sage tea. After that, she is going to feed you delicious dishes flavored with this culinary magical herb. Is it a wonder that Sage is one of the most popular of herbs, grown in our herbal gardens, with its lore of healing powers and culinary delights coming to us down the ages? Sage, like a number of very popular cooking herbs originated from the Mediterranean, although it found a home in colder climates, where the frost was not so harsh.e a number of very popular cooking herbs originated from the Mediterranean, although it found a home in colder climates, where the frost was not so harsh. This worldwide conquering of the Sage is due to the fact that traders from the West took it all over the East, and so did the gypsies. The gypsies who are very well-versed in herbal lore used (and still use) Sage extensively to keep them healthy. Apart from using Sage leaves to make their traditional delicious stuffings and sauces, Gypsy children were taught from a very young age to chew on Sage leaves. Not only did this keep their breath fresh, but also kept their mouth, chest, and throat infection free. Sage has a strong taste and is generally used to flavor the richer meats such as duck, pork and goose. Rosemary and sage – both of them go together mixed with thyme, marjoram and other herbs. In ancient times, sages – no pun intended – always advocated that people who were addicted to overeating, eat more Sage because this aided in the digestion of fats, and did not allow it to accumulate on your tummy, legs, hips and thighs. So I would not be surprised that Romans having their parties and bacchanalias would not enjoy such delicacies as larks and peacocks stuffed with Sage, and also – ahummmm, ah well, – dormice sprinkled with poppy seeds, honey, and sage. All these recipes are authentic recipes, taken from an ancient Roman book on Roman cuisine, during the times of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Since then, is it a surprise that for centuries Sage has been highly regarded as a delicious flavoring addition to your cuisine, as well as in medicine, as shown by a traditional saying, “why should a man die while Sage grows in his garden?” That is because it was considered to be a cure-all for a large number of ailments, from which mankind suffered periodically. It was also said that any person growing Sage in his garden would never fail in business. Well, there is some justification here. Plenty of Sage in his food, and he would be working with a clear head, enhanced concentration, The Latin name of sage is Salvia officinalis. The Sage that we use in cuisine is often dried or used fresh, like other members of the Labiateae family like mint. It is cultivated extensively in Yugoslavia, England, Spain, Portugal, Cyprus, England and the USA and Canada.
