Book excerpt: I wrote this book because in our fast-moving world, the 'thank you' has become a lost art. We assume that others know they are appreciated or valued, but we do not take the time to put it into words. This book aims to help individuals reflect on the joys in their lives and to think fondly about all those who have joined them on their path to happiness and fulfillment. The book provides tips and techniques to think about how we all can incorporate gratitude and grateful acts into our own lives. I believe that our world lacks kindness, compassion, grace, and gratitude and that committing to these acts of appreciation may make our relationships with one another stronger and that we will all be better for it.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How to grow as thankful women of God. As women, we are often encouraged to "count our blessings". But truly biblical gratitude is much more than this. Mary K. Mohler unpacks Scripture to help us grow in gracious gratitude (thanking God for who he is) as well as natural gratitude (thanking him for his blessings) - and to identify and deal with some of the things that hinder us - to help us rediscover the joy of a thankful heart. This thoroughly Bible-centred unpacking of the reasons for gratitude builds on Mary K. Mohler's 25 years experience in mentoring seminary wives at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. Discussion questions at the end of each chapter make this book ideal for group use as well as for individuals.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first major study of Calvin's doctrine of the Lord's Supper in twenty-five years and the first attempt to show the eucharistic shape of Calvin's entire theology. The core of Calvin's doctrine of the Eucharist is the analogy of ÒfeedingÓ on Christ, the Bread of Life. This analogy, argues Gerrish, links Calvin's thoughts to the ÒHoly BanquetÓ with the rest of his theology. The systematic character of Calvin's theology rests in part on his consistent understanding of God as father and fountain of good and his conception of the gospel as the message of free adoption. The father's liberality in feeding his children and their answering gratitude (or lack of it) is a thread that runs through Calvin's entire summary of piety; creation, the work of Christ, baptism, and the Lord's Supper.

The Ecology of the Soul: A Manual of Peace, Power and Personal Growth for Real People in the Real World explains the seven powers of our own inner ecosystem, the Ecology of the Soul, and how to revive them to regain our natural, true state of peace, power and well-being. When the Ecology of the Soul is in balance, we live and thrive in this world, and create the new one, with grace, harmony and beauty. Each one of the seven powers, Nature, Creativity, Endurance, Love, Communication, Focus and Connection, generates seven separate meditations, which in turn create ‘Power Seeds’ of thought and mental habit. Plant one a day, and in a ‘Magic Minute’ , 60 powerful seconds of daily, active meditation, you achieve the balance, power and peace of Soul Consciousness. Warm, accessible, even humorous, the book acknowledges that we are all human and not everyone is able or willing to aim for the highest path of enlightenment. It gives practical methods by which anyone, at whatever level of commitment, can benefit.

In this revision of a foundational work, John Piper reveals how grace is not only God’s undeserved gift to us in the past, but also God’s power to make good happen for us today, tomorrow, and forever. True life for the follower of Jesus really is a moment-by-moment trust that God is dependable and fulfills his promises. This is living by faith in future grace, which provides God's mercy, provision, and wisdom—everything we need—to accomplish his good plans for us. In Future Grace, chapter by chapter—one for each day of the month—Piper reveals how cherishing the promises of God helps break the power of persistent sin issues like anxiety, despondency, greed, lust, bitterness, impatience, pride, misplaced shame, and more. Ultimate joy, peace, and hope in life and death are found in a confident, continual awareness of the reality of future grace.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We all face stress and tension in our daily lives. We might even wonder why our God of abundant goodness doesn’t remove the everyday struggles we face. Jesus’ interactions with Martha and Mary in the Gospel provide us the key to understanding how God shows us his love by allowing tensions in our lives. As we follow the sisters’ transformative journeys through their own struggles, reflecting on what transpires between Scripture verses, we see their initial tension become the catalyst that drives both Mary and Martha to the feet of Jesus — the place where all discover peace. Grace in Tension explores the areas where stress arises in our own lives. Each chapter ends with a thought-provoking prayer to inspire us to go to God with our problems, followed by questions for reflection to help us see all the ways he’s working for our good. God doesn’t create any of it, but he does show up amid life’s difficulties, ready to lead us through. No matter how big or small our struggle, when we seek him out, he reveals what we need to do to resolve our tension, transforming it into grace. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Claire McGarry is the founder of MOSAIC of Faith, a ministry for mothers of infants to school-aged children to explore their faith through motherhood. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On July 22, 1988, Henry Green was saved by grace from a life of addiction to drugs and alcohol. He was born in 1955 in the South during the days of segregation to a single mother. After a difficult childhood, at thirteen, Henry turned to drugs and alcohol as a way to cope. Growing up in an era fueled by sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll, one drug led to another and finally to a needle in his arm. Henry contracted Hepatitis C, lost everything, and became homeless due to his substance abuse. After Henry hit bottom, he entered recovery in Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.) and Narcotics Anonymous (N.A.) and became a leader in the community as an Addictions Specialist. Then in 2009, Henry was diagnosed with terminal liver disease. Henry went for a second opinion at Mayo Clinic. With the advent of a new medication (Harvoni) for hepatitis and the expertise of Mayo Clinic, Henry was cured of hepatitis and received a liver transplant in 2014. Since that time, Henry retired from a lucrative career to dedicate his life to service to others. Now fueled by gratitude Henry, uses his experience, time, and resources to help homeless alcoholics and addicts in the Fernandina Beach, Florida, area recover.
