Laoisation does entail wide-ranging changes to people's lives but no clear conclusions can be drawn if as to whether this process is necessarily socially and culturally corrosive. This is because the government is not the sole influence in the lives of the hill-tribes today. Other influences, such as tourism and global processes, come from further afield.
